Fun Fact: The old school T. rex roar used in *"CARNOSAUR 2"* had been used in *"The Land Unknown"* (1957), *"The Giant Mantis"* (1957), *"DUEL"* (1971), *"JAWS"* (1975), *"KING KONG:* *The Legend Reborn"* (1976), *"KING* *KONG LIVES"* (1986; for the theatrical trailer, unused in the film), *"JAWS:* *The Revenge"* (1987), and *"GAMERA The Brave"* (2006). Plus, it was also used as Bowser's roar in the *"Super Mario Bros."* video games.
I know the gem of the story. There was a Sci-Fi bookstore in Berkeley and Roger Corman was doing a signing. My friend Grace worked there. She was about 16 then. She could draw you in. He said he couldn't think of his next project and she suggested reading Carnosaur. She's the reason that I read it.
To be fair, the Raptor used in both the 1984 novel & the 1993 film adaptation of *"CARNOSAUR"* is actually Deinonychus, which means "Terrible Claw". It was much larger than Velociraptor at 11 feet in length. They didn't used Velociraptors until the sequels.
Imagine if they had made an official *"CARNOSAUR 4"* - ignoring *"RAPTOR"* & *"The Eden Formula"* - and they used Utahraptor, which was even larger than Deinonychus; at *20 FEET!*
In turn, Michael Crichton seemed to derive his Velociraptors in the Jurassic Park book more from Deinonychus as Deinonychus are much larger and come closer to human-size than turkey-sized Velociraptors. Personally I think he chose it for the name. "Velociraptor" has a special ring to it.
The actress that played Thrush was also the student/test subject in Ghostbusters who was *not* getting electrocuted for incorrectly guessing Venkmans Zener cards.
This was her final film, before she semi-retired and then came back for *"Silent Night, Bloody Night 2: Revival"* in 2015, *"Terror Tales"* in 2016, and *"Bloodsucka Jones vs The Creeping Death"* in 2017.
I convinced my parents when I was 9 to rent carnosaur 1 and let's just say I got in trouble that night lol. I love this series. It is peak 1990s horror.
The drivers ed thing was a reference to the gory movies they show in US drivers ed classes to put the fear into kids and maybe make them think twice about speeding or whatever. A classic one is called "Blood on the Asphalt” and they were notorious for sending kids running from the room throwing up. They use real footage of horrifically demolished human remains in real accidents.
*BRANDON...I am BEGGING YOU, please review "Cyborg 2087" from 1966. It's the movie Terminator is based on despite James Cameron saying otherwise. The plot is identical and has numerous identical lines from Terminator. I have been trying for years to bring more attention to this movie, but most people refuse to listen.*
@@mrmicro22 Glad to hear it! "Cyborg 2087" was a monumental piece of cinematic and literary history and very few people seem to know about it. It's unfortunate.

Diane Ladd looks better in Carnosaur than she did in Wild At Heart a few years earlier. They definitely cast her because her daughter was starring in Jurassic Park.
@@mousetreehouse6833Wow, I just watched Christmas Vacation yesterday for the first time in years, and then woke up to this video via the autoplay feature, and saw this comment. Yeah, Diane Ladd is one of those actresses I never paid attention to as a kid, but notice all over the place in movies today. (I guess it's not that impressive a case of syncronicity; Christmas is in a few days. )
If Jurassic Park had followed the Novels we probably would had gotten to see messed up Dinosaur killings like what Carnosaur did. Atleast with the T Rex and Raptors.
Brandon you and Cecil Trachenburg from GoodBadFlicks, both of you reviews make me want to see these old classic movies. But it seems to be just as entertaining to watch the review and have a guide who makes funny comments and gives a spin on the content like watching along watching with one of my buddies. I enjoy what you do and wish only the best as we all continue watching your great content, warmest regards Jett-Blast..
The full size T rex was built in three weeks and didn't work very well, and they were only given ten weeks overall to create the film's dinosaurs so the miniatures for both and the full sized animatronics for the Deinonychus were similarly rushed. The third episode of the early nineties discovery channel show movie magic covered the creation of the dinosaurs, well as much as a half hour program could at any rate. A couple of visiting effects artists discussed the problems with the full sized rex when I was in college. Sadly that was long enough ago I can't remember everything that was said.
Fun fact: Brandon Tenold contributed a couple of writing pieces to the forecoming, "A History of CARNOSAUR," publishing by Bicep Books LLC! Now, with exclusive photos, exclusive interviews, and other exclusive content! Hopefully releasing by May 2024!
I think the Driver's Ed reference was due to the movie 'Signal Thirty' they played at the end of Driver's Ed training behind the wheel. Basically the movie showed gorey clips of real life car crash fatalities, with all the body parts and blood and gore.
There were other "educational" movies shown at the end of Driver's Ed courses too. The one they showed us (1976) had gory scenes of a real car wreck with dead black accident victims. Disturbing and wrong in many ways
This movie is Loosely based on a book by John Brosnan in 1984. The book is somehow crazier than the movie. The book has a lot more dinosaurs. These movies should have been called something stupid like "Dinopocalypse" and would still have made as much money. It is so much of a departure from the source material. Because of these movies, whenever CARNOSAUR is mentioned, people think of this abomination against cinema.

Best Michael MxDonald moment aside from the Carnisaur 2 chopper scene was his role as the security guard at Virtucon who very slowly gets killed by a steamroller he could have walked away from in Austin Powers.😂
Brandon - the Drivers Ed line is in America they used to show an educational movie called " Blood on the Highway" which featured ALOT of gore and dismemberment scenes. Hope that answers your question.

sleazy and bleak in a way that only British scifi or horror novels from the later 20th century could be apparently. Highly recommended as well!

When I saw that scene of Pratt breaking the neck of a Dilophosaur, I began to question if Carnosaur 1-3 might be better than Jurassic world 2-3.
If given an extra day of filming Corman would've probably come up with that idea.
Many years ago i rrad the book Carnasaur. It was a great book. Later i saw the movie on video. All it had in common with the book was the name.
The Carnosuar, would be an interesting addition to the Monsterverse
Here's to hoping that they bring the Carnosaur series back some day.
If they can revive Jurassic Park, then they could do the same to Carnosaur.
And to add more insult to injury: neither raptors or the T-rex are classified as carnosaurs.. 😁
