I was in this movie. I'm that guy in the cave in the beginning who hit the wall with his axe and caused a huge explosion and died. Not my finest moment. I got the gig while teaching English in Seoul. The production company put ads in English language newspapers and some friends and I went and auditioned. I think I got the role more because I was available during night shoots than for my acting skills. When I got there they told me I had some lines, was called Chang, and said I should get ready. I said wait, I'm a white guy and you're going to call me Chang, an Oriental name? The screenwriter overheard this and said oh, wait, let me ask the director. The director was Korean, spoke no English and so had to use an interpreter, a barely 20 year old American who spoke Korean very well but was also very obnoxious, to the point where some people actually wanted to punch his lights out. Anyway, they changed my name to Peters, and we shot the scenes over two nights in an old warehouse modeled to look like an underground cave. I could tell right away it was shit, but what the hell, I had fun. I also had a plaster mold of my head made for my death scene but when I saw the finished film that was never used. I also got to meet an actor who once worked with Tom Cruise on Cocktail and also the actor who played the older version of Ryan who was in the graveyard at the beginning and end of Saving Private Ryan. He had some cool tales about working with Spielberg. Overall a good experience and a story I can tell over and over again still 23 years later.
🤔🤔right?
You should share this review with other cast members
Cool story. If I'd had such an opportunity I would have taken it. It's an experience few get to have. Did they pay you something? Not that that would be a deciding factor just curious.
@@jacquelinecallejas1390 We got paid a little, equal to about $200 USD for 25 hours work over two nights. Plus meals and transportation. And yes it was a great experience.
@@cbstevp I wonder, do you think this Movie is Terrible or Good?
Yonggary: *tries to kill kids*
Kids: yay were about to get killed by a reptile
Godzilla 2014: *tries to cross a bridge*
Kids: *literally screaming and shitting themselves in fear*
Yup
I'd love a monster movie where the giant creature spends the whole film trying and failing to kill a bunch of kids who think it's a theme-park ride.
Because you can tell that that Godzilla is realistic even if it’s CGI made by WETA
You'd think kids would've gotten MORE nihilistic over time, not LESS.
Tbf, if I was on a bridge, and I saw Godzilla heading my way.
I’d be shitting bricks.
God that scene of the kids laughing as the monster shoots at them feels like something from a parody movie.
This whole movie is like something from a parody movie.
The director put in there specifically to piss Brandon off, showing kids laughing happily as the monster doesn't roast them.
You can just smell the pixels on those monsters.
Those pixels.....
...monsters what
Mmm sour
Skyler Gulley you can also taste the dust coming from this beasts dated effects
That is so true!
Best part is there were suits for the monsters, and they looked WAYYYY better than what we got!
I wonder what would happen if they combined both suitmation and CGI.
My one year old's doodlings look better than what we got....
I took a look after reading this comment and… Holy crap, they kind of do. I mean they still look a little cartoony, but yeah!
@@disneyboy3030 according to the attack on titan live action fantastic honestly
@Jurassic Hero well of course they did. Those were actually good movies
I was about to comment, "wait, isn't Pulgasari supposedly the "Korean Godzilla"", but then I remembered that Pulgasari was North Korea's Godzilla while Yongary was South Korea's Godzilla.
Patrick Campbell
I thought the Kim family was North Korea's Godzilla.
Patrick Campbell it's a copy of Gamera more then Godzilla
Patrick Campbell that is correct
I would love to see a movie were the Korean fake Godzilla's right each other
I wonder ho would win in a fight
Oh lord I remember watching this movie *shudders* Makes Godzilla's Revenge and Godzilla 98 look like masterpieces. Hell this makes Uwe Boll's movies look like Academy Award winners.
What if Uwe Boll made a Kaiju flick.
Hew Man
Still would be better, hell the creature effects in Alone in the Dark was better than this.
I not sure that any movie can make Uwe Boll work look good.
unclepatrick2
Apparently you've never seen anything from the Asylum. I swear they are in a contest to make the shittiest rip off movies.
I have the Sci Fi channel on my TV, so I seen Asylum.
And yes they are bad.
But I enjoy their version of War of the World better then the Spielberg film.
At least I was not rooting for the Martians to kill the world most annoying family in the Asylum film.
And I enjoyed their rip off of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" , The Day the Earth Stop more then the remake with Keanu Reeve. It not the greatest movie but it better then remake. Ok not a high bar but still.
And I do enjoy "The Invasion of the Pod People." Hey, I a male, straight and still have a pulse.
14:20 According To The Director, In The Original Version Of This Movie, When Yongary First Appears On Screen, He Apparently 'Looked Good', But Then He Just Fades Away, Turning Into A Wire Frame Animation.
I remember seeing this on Scyfy years ago, tuning in exactly when the morons in jetpacks dropped that Godzilla line, and watching for about five minutes before I went to do something else. Glad to see I made the right call there.
Same but I couldn't finish the film cause my parents changed the channel
There's a video called The Making of YONGGARY (1999) on youtube that shows the original practical effects they planned on for this movie. If they'd stuck with those I think the effects would have looked so much better even if the movie itself wasn't good. The clay sculptures looked great but the CGI in this is bafflingly bad.
Like using rubber suit
Looks like it crawled out of a PS1 cutscene, moves like it too
There's also a documentarry on youtube called YOnggary Chronicle Project which is about the movies production.
...they did NOT just bad mouth Big G! (14:41 )
Ranjira they probably talk about Zilla
How dare they say that to the King of the monsters!
People who disrespect any Iconic? do not hiring them any more. You just ruined you career asshole's.
@@megalon73 what were you trying to say? This is broken English.
@@Gamedsheep Yeah, I'm sorry I meant the guy who Godzilla a pussy is an Asshole!
Holy crap! I KNEW a movie called Dragon Wars existed! I barely remember seeing it at a movie theater in 2007!
I think the reason why Yongary turned good is because that diamond on its forehead was controlling him. Causing him to do whatever the aliens tells him to do. & when it got destroyed, the aliens lost control control of him. Thus, Yongary turned back to its good nature self.
it's still a shit movie
4:02 when you do the math though, that'd make the creature in this movie 2,000 feet long, which is actually twice ghidorah's wingspan. which also makes no sense. Godzilla is also normally around 300 feet so the writers of this really did not know how to make a kaiju film seem believable.
The guy said that kaiju is 15 meters tall same size as a T. rex bruh the actors in this movie is so cringe because it kinda looks the actors graturated the university the same day as this film is made and a T. rex is like 3 or 5 meters tall and that kaiju in this movie is like 40 or 50 meters tall and that impossible that this creature is the same size of a T. rex
Actually according to the directors Yonggary is 500 feet tall. Where as I thought he was around 180-200 feet because he sure as hell doesn't look 500 feet tall.
I did the math. He’s supposedly 50x the size of a Tyrannosaurus. Tyrannosaurs are 20 feet tall.
Apparently he’s over 1000 feet tall.
He looks about the size of (if not smaller than) the Legendary Godzilla, who’s 421 feet tall.
Everything about this movie is utter bullcrap.
In fact, he’s taller than Godzilla Earth, (984.25 feet), the largest Godzilla!
@@MetaFanWing Will size change anything anything the guy could be 5000 feet tall godzilla is still kicking his ass
@@painvillegaming4119
Well, that’s a given.
@@MetaFanWing i mean this is the same Monster that vois a up a planet with a atomic breath
Glad to have helpd support the show. Sorry I had to expose you to these terrible effects though.
Dude, I love your profile picture. Death playing bass guitar.

Smashguy96 is it true that your named after your grandpa
@@godzillaghidorah9198 Nah. I'm a huge fan of Super Smash Bros and I was born in 96. Thus Smashguy96
@@Smashguy96 I thought it was because you were gay, lord smash guy
1:36-1:45
Perfect timing. On the day where Godzilla '98 premiered 20 years ago.
Best Godzilla ever
I still take issue with the "Godzilla 98' is the worst Godzilla ever" idea. I watched Godzilla's Revenge as a child. I KNOW what a shitty Godzilla movie looks like
"You can't fight in the war room". Instant like! :)
Good to see again, Brandon :)
Right when I heard you say "a specific kind of monster movie." I instantly thought, a bad monster movie?
5 seconds later, meh, I was close!
"50 times the size of T-Rex"
So that would put it at 600 feet tall and 2000 feet long.
For comparison, Zilla is 196 feet tall and 328 feet long.
And yet I'd still take Zilla over this, at least Godzilla 98 can be fun if you ignore it claiming to be a Godzilla film.
It's closer to Godzilla than the 1931 Frankenstein was close to the book
@@loschrodproductions4519 Which is really not saying much.
Dude the monster is way small than how big they say it really is, just me
@@pedrovallefin8406 Anyway, complaining about how it's different from the original Godzilla is still kind of pointless, there are many In Name Only Adaptations that don't receive the same hate
@@ciarandaragh8676 maybe they were referring to the weight
Oh crap, I remember seeing this movie on television so many years ago, like 15 or so years ago. I remembered nothing about this movie, other than its title and the name "Yonggary", this was a real nostalgia trip for me. Thanks!
7:02 - I love how they all cross their arms in a "wave". :D
"Reptillian"...the movie that proved guys in suits can look better than CGI. WOW.
Hey since the Koreans are on better terms with each other now, maybe we can finally get a Yonggary vs Pulgasari movie
1:01 So not only does Yongary look like a knockoff Gamera with no shell but he also comes with his own Kenny included. Oh dear, this is not looking very promising.
The Host remains Korea's best film to date.
Got an Idea for the sequel. Yongary vs. A*P*E
@potater mater they could also make yongary, a big bird and a worm vs a noodle monster.
Oh shit
Yongary vs. A*P*E vs. Pulgasari
The A*P*E would just middle finger it and jump out of there
I can't help it, but I always hear 'Young Gary' when they say the monster's name.
Great, now I want a monster movie about a giant Gary Busey
The final battle sorta reminded me of Godzilla 2000.
Now. who would win? this guy or APE?
Gigantis Knockoff Godzilla vs knockoff King Kong? Yes please 🙋
Or Godzilla team up with King Kong fighting both of them
Either Godzilla or Kong would be able to take both of them alone with no help.
unclepatrick2 well that's work too
Hew Man: A battle of of the bottom-of-the-barrel titans? Count me in!
I really love your sarcastic humor in every movie review of yours.
I saw this in the Sci-Fi Channel back in the 2001. Brings Back Memories in my childhood.
Same
Oh my gosh no way I SAW IT ON SCI-FI CHANNEL!!!!!
I was wondering when you were going to do this one. I think I watched it 7 times as a kid. It was way more entertaining back then. Great review!
“Me, Dr. Campbell, your assistant, me Dr. Campbell” - classic !
There are a whole bunch of great Korean films out there. I highly recommend The Warrior (2001). It is one of my favorites.
ghostofkrows Old boy
The Host, Train to Busan, Steel Rain, Spy Gone North, The Berlin File.
Good Korea makes a ton of great movies, doesn't look like this is one of them.
I love Korean spy movies. Great plots, solid grounded action, relatable characters, tense atmosphere. Best spy movies in the world being made today are being made in Korea.
I've been waiting so long for you to cover this one....I remember watching this one back as a kid in 2008 and I absolutely HATED this film because of how bad it was (and mind you I was into a lot of cheesy giant monster movies back then). Even as a kid I was unimpressed with this film. Nice to see this one get reviewed.
Also I love the usage of MSPaint on the remake Yonggary on the titlecard. XD
I loved the Dr. Strangelove reference.
You probably should cover Yongary. It's a funny and entertaining Godzilla knock off.
It's more of a homage if you know the back story behind it
Yongary was brilliant 😁
Bryce McKenzie I’m gonna guess much better than this big pile of pixelized shit
Yongary is this film. Read the description.
Sevim Altunkaynak no this is a remake of youngary
Gonna need a gif of those kids cheering with the explosion in the background.
Ah you managed to make monday bearable once again!
I get a kick out of your constant referrals to "Lifeforce"! Although. it's about the most entertaining movie I've seen you review...
David J. Thompson and it's the best movie that he ever review in his top 10
Your commentary on these reviews just crack me up. Thanks for the laughs Brandon. I always look forward to your next upload
13:11 *laughing hysterically* She hit the nail on the head with that line!
Love how he finds dead bodies, digs through dirt, finds what he thinks to be the electrical cable that caused their deaths and PICKS IT UP to show others that this is what killed them!
If it was really the cause of their death, then DONT PICK IT UP!
I can't wait for you to review your first Asylum movie.
Cole Thomas Um
Um what? Has he already reviewed an Asylum movie? Is THIS an Asylum movie?
But which one? One of their many mockbusters? One of their original monster movies? The Sharknado series? The *Mega Shark* series?
Really dig the review man! Love the humor and delivery as well. Reminds me of cinema snob, which is only ever a good thing
The closest we had of Youngary was the Protein Monster from Sweet Home, where he grows in sizes. While it's not truly Youngary, it's kinda close
I like how one of the general talks about Brandon's line like a 4th wall break.
I'm so glad you answered my request. but Yonggary is revealed to be a female in Yonggary (1999), not this, 2001 Yonggary (2000)
So…this Reptilan (2000) is a rip-off to Younggary (1999) from it's own nation?!
Just wanted to say I absolutely love your channel and continue the good work. You rock 😎✌🎸!
I'm beginning to think that your patreon is entirely peopled with sadists.
jim haverlock Whaaa? No! Just because we find pleasure in exposing Brandon to terrible awful movies and making him suffer so we can get off doesnt make us sadits!....does it?
Smashguy96 I get it, don't get me wrong.
I love it.
I just feel bad about it now and then.
Well...yeah.
Actually these are people with incredibly good taste and judgment 😆.
That's one of the strongest stereotypes i've ever seen
Love your reviews bro. Keep up the good work
O.k. I'll forgive them remaking their Godzilla rip off in the wake of the Godzilla rip off. But they killed Matilda May? I declare eternal vengance upon then!
nooctip but they also dropped the Kenny
you should review dinocroc ... you will enjoy what happens to the kenny
Can't decide if the effects in this are worse than Food Fight or not.
I'd say it's on par with Foodfight.
At least Food Fight had an excuse for the shitty effects
The stinger? My favorite part of the movie. Thank you so much!
To be fair, the second monsters design is pretty good, even if the effects are awful.
Phillip Nance it’s basically a rip off of anguirus
Yonggary is like the worst elements of Godzilla crossed with the worst elements of Gamera.
Reptilian is Troll 2 of giant monster movies.
I've not seen "Troll 2" but lots of people seem to find it entertaining. I can't believe many people would sit through this awful "movie" and enjoy it!
That, sir, is an insult . . . to Troll 2.
Honestly, I found this movie more enjoyable than the 98 Godzilla movie at the time, mainly because Younggary is immune to the military strikes, has a lethal breath weapon, and even gets to fight another monster.
Now you have to do Dragon Wars. What a steaming bucket of yak's vomit that was.
You NEED to review Attack of the killer Tomatoes.
It is something people need to see to believe. Like if you agree 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It was on Netflix once
The sequel is better IMO
@@koopapoopypanya9485 wait really?!
Godzilla 1998’s 20th birthday/anniversary was yesterday.
No one fucking cares dumbass
I'm surprised you haven't reviewed this director's other movie D-War yet. It would be definitely worth ripping apart.
You think Shim Hyung Rae is also a comedian better known for his tv shows in SK than for boring monster movies?
Could u please do "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms"? Ive posted this on like every video. Like this if u agree that he should do this.
I doubt he'll do it if you spam it everywhere, just wait or donate to his patreon or something, I have movies i'd love to see him review, but I keep them to myself.
The super pizel in zoom in on the title card is a nice touch
Dude, if you do review the original youngary, your a brave man, and some shots will help.😃😃
John Souto It’s definitely bad but it’s not totally garbage. It’s a monster movie. None of these movies are truly that bad. In a sense I guess
Back in 05.. My oldest brother rented this movie off Netflix when they still did DVD delivery and such. He was SOOOOO hyped for this because it was a giant monster movie he heard about about on some Godzilla forum. We watched it along with other movies at a church lock in event and needless to say.... EVERYBODY there roasted the movie the whole time and him for picking it. I dont think he was aware of how bad the film was and was expecting it to be an actual good movie.
This review sums it up well and my own experience watching it.
14:43 you wanna say that again, this time to Shin Godzilla's faces?
They’d probably have no problem saying it to ‘98 Godzilla’s face, which is surely the version they’re thinking of. Personally, I’d be most afraid of insulting the Final Wars, Monsterverse or Planet of Monsters versions of Godzilla. While Shin is the most disturbing, he’s also possibly the weakest after ‘98. He gets injured a lot easier and tires much quicker.
11:00 Zilla vs. Yongary. That is something that needs to brought to light, because no-one has ever thought of it.
Jewelz Treasure welp Zilla is 55 meters tall while Yonggary is 500 meters tall
This movie seems to try and make Yonggary impressive in all the weirdest fucking ways.
“He’s a DINOSAUR that is very OLD, is a LEGEND, is 50 times the size of T Rex, and makes Godzilla look like a PUSSY”
This is a guilty pleasure movie of mine honestly lol, used to get it from blockbuster back in the day
the acting in this movie is gold: made me laugh a few times how hammy it was.
These just get funnier and funnier. Do t forget us when you go viral
Reptilian !! OOOOOH! I thought you was going to review Reptilicus the 1961 monster movie my bad LOL
This is really good. I’m enjoying this video very much.
Could you please do a Video on Godzilla 1998?
Has that movie been declared a cult classic?
Tobias Andersson depends on who you ask, to some yes to others, no....
I suggested it because he's been review the Godzilla movies, even the bad ones
That movie isn't a classic at all.
sivalo the sergal again well it is to some
He's probably saving that for a special occasion.
Ah, yes! This is a movie I've waited for years for you to review! Woohoo!
This movie makes Godzilla 1998 look good
It seems like the CGI artists just didn’t render the lighting well. The monsters looked fine otherwise.
Oh No! IT'S ... Reptilian...
Heh. I guess it's as close as we're gonna get to a Godzilla review for the next month or so.
Reptilian? So this movie is loosely based on David Icke's conspiracy theories?
"It's smell so... Old"
It's in the class of Resident Evil-acting and I love it!!
11:46, Who wanted those kids to get stomped on?
2:43 damnit who brought the nitroglycerin
18:02 OH NO! THERE'S AN BOOTLEG YELLOW PLUSH OF BARAGON IN SITTING IN THE TABLE!!!
Look how they massacred my boy!!
Perfect way to start my night after work.
Can you review Crocodile (2000), Aligator, Python (2000), and Komodo
No
Speaking as someone who's done some cgi I can say the basic designs weren't bad and the motion was pretty good. They needed to work n the texturing, lighting and compositing. They did a much better job on the alien spaceships.
So Brandon's reviews are on Mondays now? That's gonna throw my RUclips viewing week off. But hey, it'll be fine.
I'm starting to wonder if he gets a sick pleasure in messing with us
desi1790 you're probably right.
wstine79. Not if you're nocturnal like me
Hoh boy! I've been looking forward to the day this clunker made it onto your channel, and it did not disappoint. ^ _ ^ *pops open a bottle of root beer and raises it high*
Was that Matt Damon's older self from saving private ryan there at the bar? So yea. Thanks Brandon for the clarification.
if you're being sarcastic, he does get around to it at 18:19
"General Mafia boss!"
Lmao, perfect!
I thought the thumbnail was a Gridman reference
LOL!!! That wasn't my intent but this horrid film would have made for a good Mega-Virus Monster.
WOW!!! He’s coming TOWARDS us!!!!
Wasn't this film supposed to be called reptilicus? Or was that something else?
Reptilicus is a danish monster movie about a snake like creature. A pretty damn bad movie, but it has that so bad it's good style. Also the monster in that is a puppet.
@@ragejoona431 how dare you bad mouth reptilicus that movie is a classi.... oh wait that's Gorgo im thinking about. Nevermind.
The CGI in this film makes godzilla 98 look like Avengers Endgame.
Maybe the movie is mocking Godzilla 98?
Maybe, but the result is really bad!
Yongari is also 2/3 the size of gamera and 3/5 the size of rodan.
I hope this is work print rip....
It's even funnier to look back at this film and how Godzilla Minus One has roughly the same budget.
review Godzilla revenge next or pacific rim next.
Pacific rim isn't really a cult classic.
Pacific rim job😂
sivalo the sergal he only does cult/genre/not-so-famous movies not populer big hit movie
P.S: Oh, and kaiju and godzilla movies.
Asmoro Damais
Yeah and Pacific rim was made in 2013.....so it isn't a classic at all.
sivalo the sergal yeah, most of the movies he does are movies before the 2000s or really early 2000s
I would take a remake of this in the Legendary Godzilla's style~
