      Thank you so much Andrew! The 50mm f1.0 is still great, but only for certain use cases. This lens wins out most of the times, for sure. I still have a theory that the 50mm f1.0 was a rush-to-market because they really wanted it to be a 33mm f1.0 but couldn't make it happen. Then they made the incredible 33mm f1.4 instead, which is so good. So yeah, a good time to be a Fujifilm user though - you can't lose!

    This lens is pretty much glued to my camera. I also have the 33mm 1.4 and 23mm 1.4 lenses. That is my "holy trinity" for portrait shoots.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  Год назад +2

      Yes! Honestly, I am loving my 18mm f1.4 but rarely use on 'shoots' but use it more day-to-day. But for a shoot, the 56mm stays on the camera first then switching to the 33 or 23 depending. Great kit man! Thanks for watching :)

      @@greggpedder what makes it nearly as good?

    • @greggpedder
      @greggpedder Год назад

      @@Iamtongue The IQ is excellent, it's small, well built the AF is head and shoulders better, absolutely no comparison AND it's 1/3rd of the price.
      If you can't afford a 56 1.2WR the Sigma is an excellent option. I can afford a 56 WR if I so desire but I have the Sigma and don't think the Fuji lens would improve my results enough to justify the extra size and expense.

    I got the lens discounted on Amazon for $899 and I’m in love with it. It’s a keeper, I found better results with single focus mode.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  9 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed! Single focus mode is actually a much better way to use it since the STM is not as great.

    You know what? This is seriously one of the best lenses I've ever used. It has some freaking KILLER sharpness and matches the best 85mm equivelent lenses I've ever used... EXCEPT for focus speed. But for incredible image quality - FREAKING AWESOME.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  Год назад +2

      Dude - hit the nail on the head. Like I said in the video, everything but AF is unreal. Again, I feel like it's not talked about enough and I certainly don't see enough shots with it! Killer sharpness and for me, the lack of LoCA and regular CA wide open is astounding. Well said Jerred!!

      @@oxeneers Thanks man - you too. Great video (I should have told you that!) - it's one of those lenses that makes me smile... and when I'm looking at a bunch of shots I've taken with multiple cameras/lenses at a certain location, the shots with the 56 1.2 ii always stand out!

    Minimum focus distance is really the only selling point here for me. I’m impressed at how much lower it is from the old one and compared to the 50mm

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  Год назад +1

      YES, something I didn't even mention. I am used to the GFX, where all of my lenses have a fucking 3 to 5 foot MFD haha. You're right. This photography thing is expensive, isn't it? So good to see you here! Thanks for watching!! I have your 50mm f1.0 video on my "Watch Later" list - I've been so swamped with my day job lately.

    I did get this lens because 56mm is such a great focal length for indoor/outdoor. Optically it is just gorgeous, rich colors, contrast, and “pop”. If you think the AF sucks try the kit lens indoors for awhile. Even in Af-s it tends to miss, miss, miss. Doesn’t track great. Put the 56mm back on and it hits-hits-hits. It is an accurate lens for sure but when subjects are moving around is just OK. AF-C is ok in short bursts sometimes but overall I’ve done best outdoors with some distance to the subject. Overall for $1,000 though the AF performance should have been way better, so I think the lens is overpriced for what it is. I don’t love the ergonomics either btw.
    Also not hating on the 18-55mm that thing can take super sharp and awesome photos. I’ve just found in my experience that it’s neither particularly accurate or particularly fast. Focus misses ruin the majority of shots I take with it when shooting people.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  Год назад

      Yeah, I'm with you. Not a huge fan of the 18-55 kit lens. I am really interested to try Tamron's version to see if the constant 2.8 is better. Will report back haa.
      But yes, for $1,000, the AF performance should have been better, absolutely. But I think because the 50mm APS-C focal length is so saturated for Fujifilm (XF56mm f1.2 R WR, XF56mm f1.2 R, XF50mm f2 R WR, XF50mm f1 R WR), they're kind of okay with the craziness. Strange, I know.
      Loved your thoughts, Matt. Thank you for watching!

      It definitely is unique in that. Wouldn't say I have a problem but it certainly isn't as good as the new LM lenses. I'm so used to it now, I know how to work 'around' it.

      @oxeneers  2 месяца назад

      Hey thank you so much for watching - seriously! I just did a wedding on Saturday but it's not your typical wedding. 1 hour ceremony + 2 hour reception. Shot about 3,000 photos between both cameras - lots of bursting (brought my X-H2 and X-H2s - 56mm f1.2 on one and 23mm f1.4 on the other). I need to get better. What do you think is best in terms of overall shots?

    • @brsaravia
      @brsaravia 2 месяца назад

      @@oxeneers Thank you for your prompt response. I'm unsure what the best option is. I've been learning from various photographers and doing my own research, found around 6,000 to 10,000 photos for an 8-10 hour wedding . Waiting for your next video !!! Have a nice day.

    Somehow I find the FOV of the XF56 a bit here nor there for me, but I LOVE the GF110 (same mm on 35). Something about… maybe I like the pain of carrying the GFX more?
    Great video and sample shots. I need to shut up and get out there and shoot with the 56 and put it to the test! How did you find the AF in low light?

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  Год назад +2

      Hahah, love you Mike! Yeah, I did a photowalk with another photographer a month or so ago and he had the GF110 and I brought my X-H2/56mm WR. His stuff, ostensibly, was so much better when all was said and done but for both of us doing primarily street stuff at night (the photo of the dumpster - ha - was taken that night around 11pm), I was really impressed with both lenses and how they performed.
      The LM in his 110 was smashing my 56mm, even with the far superior AF system of the X-H2 vs. his GFX 50R. Kind of wild.
      Yeah, the physical size of the 56mm is small enough that it doesn't really feel like a high performance, portrait-style lens in your hands, but it is frickin good. Your dog photos would be like the 110mm dog photos (Haha) but at scale with an X-Series body. It's a good time to be a Fuji user dude!!

      @oxeneers  Год назад +1

      Bro, the 90mm is so great. I used my friend's once for a bit - so insanely sharp at f2. BUT, it's a speciality lens and you can't really take it around with you everywhere - well, you could, but you'd be better off with a different lens. But the 56mm has my heart man - so special. The 33mm and 56mm (newest versions) are the two lenses that scream "Fujifilm" to me. So good.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  Год назад +2

      Hey I appreciate you watching! If you're looking for a more contrast-y, saturated look, there definitely are ways to do that in post-processing. I just prefer a flatter, more muted look overall.
      I think in terms of the "3D" pop and depth, it is visible in several images. But again, I really appreciate you watching Sebastian!
