I actually did most of it right in the living room, but he spends most his time in his office and I set up a barrier so he couldn't see in when he walked by. He knew I was making something for his birthday so he also took care to avoid looking at what I was doing.
Deadass! I'm Italian and everything we do is H U G E but even I know other people have a lower baseline. I got the feeling he was apologizing mostly so that the internet wouldn't misunderstand, which is a little sad, but understandable, as I've seen that kind of backlash before.
Thissssss!! Him saying how he didn’t think he was expressing his excitement adequately and I was just like WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN YOU THIS EXCITED lololol
I love the "I don't have a good vocabulary so I will just show you in a gesture!" And gives the most enthusiastic and excited thumbs up. Like pure joy. For what it's worth Jun, even those fluent in English (or any language for that matter) it can happen when you are speechless or at a loss for words.
Rachel knowing what type of plates Jun likes and Jun immediately thinking of what he wants to make for Rachel when he sees it makes my heart happy ❤️. Also, "acts of cat are legal" had me cackling 😂
I know Jun worries about how he could come off as aloof, but you can REALLY see how excited he is. The moment where he's immediately thinking about what to serve on the plate or the one where he wants to play ping pong IMMEDIATELY is so wholesome.
I think as long as their partner understands, that is more than enough. Of course, if their partner did not understand, that would be a problem. It seems they understand each other though, so I love that.
I think a lot of Rachel and Jun's audience are American, or at least westerners, and over here we have such a specific way of viewing love and appreciation (usually as being very open, expressive, loud, etc.). But lots of other countries aren't naturally that open with their emotions, or its not how they express that level of sincerity. Being more calm, which can sometimes come off as being aloof or uninterested, is a lot more innate for lots of foreigners (*especially* when they're speaking in their non-native language). Rachel and Jun seem to know exactly what works for them and how to express themselves authentically to each other, which is what matters. Sad that Jun feels a need to clarify. But it seemed clear to me that he was very touched by Rachel's gifts!
Also just the fact that pretty much the main thing he wanted to do for his birthday was essentially spend time with her. I'm CRYING they're so sweet to each other
Hey Rachel, taking 3 weeks to make something from SCRATCH is actually pretty awesome and a quick timeline. You're amazing, and I love your handy-dandy nature. Keep being you, you wonderful insect loving nerd, and Happy Birthday to Jun 🎂
The fact that Jun was apologizing for not seeming excited enough but when he slips into Japanese, you can actually hear how excited he is. It’s literally the cutest thing ever🥺
As someone who's been watching their videos for years it's super clear just how excited and grateful Jun was in this video. I nearly got teary eyed seeing it for some reason.
I feel so much for him for this!!!! Because I'm also like that 😭😭😭 sometimes I sound sarcastic with a slightly dull face if I'm happy or genuinely happy too...🥲 It's better when I express with actions 😅
I think I'm usually the opposite and too over exuberant with thanks, but I have no idea what I'd be like if my gift receiving was videotaped! 😮 I feel like I'd either get embarrassed and stiff, or I'd go too over the top and seem fake. But it's a very personal thing, as well as cultural - on average US people are a little more exuberant than Japanese people because manners are cultural, so the polite reaction typically taught to little kids in one country will look different than another one. Poor Jun has to react not just to his wife's understanding, but also to 340,000 strangers who are mostly western.
Japanese people I believe have a had time with showing emotion, reasons could be that they don't want to come off as selfish or ungrateful. So, even if Jun didn't smile, his words to Rachel expressed the emotion he wanted to convey, being extremely humble, grateful, happy and loving. Same things with Koreans, especially North Koreans, but then again, they don't know what emotions are.
Jun says that his reactions are subdued and neutral but those of us who have been watching him for years can tell that he is beyond impressed and his joy is so great that he can barely contain it. I don't think I've ever seen Jun so happy in a video before and it's clear that he's proud of Rachel's skill and the effort she went to for him.
"Look at my bathroom! It was all made by my WIFE!" he sounds so proud!! I can tell one of his favorite parts of you making things for him is to show it to other people. Also, Jun, don't apologize for not 'looking' excited enough. There's tons of ways to show love, your reactions are just one part of it : > There's no right way to show how you feel as long as the people that matter to you understand
I can relate to Jun, I've always felt a bit of anxiety or pressure to perform while opening presents in front of people because I don't emote the way some people do.
Yes 🙌 my best friend is autistic and looks 😐 when she is happy, angry, excited, sad, you name it. But she expresses she likes my gifts to her by, well, saying it and also actually using it, like if I give her a bag she will use it every day, if I give a little figurine she’ll display it on her desk, stuff like that.
When Jun put his hand over his mouth… he didn’t have to say a single word. It was so apparent that he was just overwhelmed and so, so, so touched by all you did, Rachel. Good job! 👍👍
“Time to let Jun come home!” Honestly that made it sound like you sent Jun away on a errand or something and it makes for a hilarious scenario in my mind 😂
It’s so cute that Rachel knows the specific plates Jun likes and Jun is imaging what dishes to make. Seeing couples know niche things about each other is so wholesome
@@LaviniaDeMortalium Are you generalizing all American couples? I feel like couples that actually love each other would know niche things about each other regardless of country.

My favorite part is when Jun covers his face in awe: "You applied the sealant? So it's waterproof?" They're both such excellent makers, to see them admire each other's craft is such a pure love between artists.
Anyone who has any social awareness can tell Jun LOVED the white bowl, mirror, and bathroom makeover. He really liked everything else, too. His appreciation was shown in how he stared at the items with so much vigor. He was imagining enjoying everything he got! He can be so sweet without saying anything.❤ GOOD JOB RACHEL! Well thought out, and well executed!
Them throwing the “hole-foam-ball” around as quality time together is honestly so wholesome and very much confirms my suspicion that Rachel and Jun are just two big cats 🐈 🐈⬛
Jun may not have a big physical reaction but you can see the way his eyes just light up when he's excited/happy. The vibes of this relationship are just immaculate.
Man, Jun is so in love with Rachel. He just radiates "I love my wife" energy. He's great. They're both great people. (I don't know where I was going with this)
When he said "look, look at my bathroom, all made by my wife" my heart just rolled out of my chest. What a wonderful birthday surprise. The thought and the level of detail in the gifts really make it. Belated Happy Birthday Jun!
Though Jun said that his reaction maybe somewhat 'less excited' to some people, I can already TELL that he actually is beyond excited and prolly feels overwhelmed as how heartwarming and thoughtful the gifts are 😭 You two really are literal soulmates, I pray for a never-ending happiness to you both ✨✨ Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUN!
The ping pong table with the cats looks soooo fun, and Poki smacking the ball out of the air is amazing! I love that you two just like...genuinely seem to enjoy spending time together, and that you know each other so well, down to Rachel knowing what shape of plates Jun likes and Jun already thinking about what he's gonna cook for Rachel. And the bath tray came out so nice! Seriously looks like a relaxing wonderland in there with the plants and the lights.
It's such a rare treat to see Jun excitedly grin from ear to ear up to where he forgets how to english :D You guys are the definition of true love and relationship goals!
omg this was so wholesome and brought tears to my eyes. Rachel put in so much love and effort into making a great birthday for Jun. And despite Jun saying he wasn't good with words and that his face/physical communication wasn't consistent with his FEELS on the inside, you could totally tell how excited and how loved he felt by all of Rachel's thoughtfulness.
Jun's sparkly eyes at 12:54 defo shows his excitement at receiving the gifts. No apologies required at all, Jun ! We see you and that's happiness!! Great job , Rachel! Keep improving em woodworking skills! 🎉🎉🎉
Jun's reaction to the first plate was actually really cute. It was a 'cogs turning in the back of the head' kind of reaction. I love that his go-to was, 'Wait, no, I can put Sashimi on it.' A creative mind never really shuts off.
Jun: *worried he might come off as aloof* Me: *grinning from ear-to-ear because of his VERY OBVIOUS excitement* Nah, you're okay, I would be excited too! Happy birthday! On the flipside, it's genuinely SO heartwarming to see Rachel put so much thought and effort into her gifts for Jun's birthday!
Jun was so worried that the cultural differences between Japanese and American outward emotional expression would mean we would think he was unappreciative or did not like the gifts you made for him. However, we could see clearly through his body language - even without the perfect English words - how much all this meant to him. I seriously almost cried at the end when he was reacting to the bath caddy cause his reaction was so genuine, sweet, and loving. There's no need to worry. Your love and appreciation definitely came across strongly in this video. Rachel did an amazing job, and it is clear how much you two care for each other. Anyone with even half a heart should be able to see that clear as day, and those who can't weren't worth your time anyway.
I could tell from the moment he reacted to the new foam football that he was blown away. The way he rocked backward was the equivalent of Rachel jumping up and down in excitement haha
This is my favorite video they've made in awhile! You can tell they both really care and and respect each other! Plus, Rachel's gifts were so well thought out! You could tell Jun really appreciated all of it!
Ping pong with Poki was so cute!!! I love that Rachel casually does all this amazing woodwork, like "oh yeah, I just completely customized this bathroom. No big deal." Makes me want to try projects too.
What’s sweet about this is not just how well-chosen the gifts are for Jun; it’s also how long Rachel spent making them. That’s what makes them so special. 😊
Okay so... Seeing Jun in this context was super cool. He's so adorable, you can tell how much he enjoyed everything. It's much more emotion than we're used to. Good job!
As a long term watcher and lover of this channel, I can always tell just how appreciative, excited, and the natural love you both share in your actions. Love to see that you've each taken time to give a little extra attention to special days and explore other ways to show up for each other. I'm absorbing all this DIY magic like a sponge!
I know Jun can get worried that he doesn't sound excited enough about things, but it really shined through this video just how happy and excited he was for what Rachel made/got for him. Happy belated birthday, Jun!
I don’t know why Jun would consider himself under-whelmed because it definitely showed that he was touched by all the gestures, and I loved everything about this entire video.
The bath is so nice! Not just the beautiful handmade bath tray which was so nicely arranged, but the thoughtfully set up bath itself. Men should also be encouraged to take that time to pamper and care for themselves. I especially love how Rachel took the time to rinse off each rose petal. ❤️
Ha, Jun apologized for not seeming excited enough but I could tell he was excited because he jumped right to his first language. That's when you know emotions are high!
I always tell my boyfriend that an Asian Family’s way of saying “I love you” is through food. So hearing Jun say “I can’t wait to cook something for you” was extremely sweet. All the other things in the video are also lovely and I can’t wait to see other projects and activities you both do next!!
The fact that Rachel spent all the time making Jun a gift that was useful, and hand made by her is very special. It is something that will last for decades, and be appreciated every time it is used. (Now Jun needs to teach the cats to play ping pong with each other. LOL) Wonderful and useful gifts are always appreciated.
I need a whole season of cat ping pong! The whole vid was so wonderfully made and it's so wholesome to watch. Thanks for posting content like this. I've been following for so long and you two never disappoint!
Their account and content is the exact thing I understand under genuine. It just feels like they do stuff and come to the thought of " oh this could be nice content for the yt channel" and not like other yt channels " oh I'm doing this because it could be bring me views." And I love that
I love how Jun is so proud to say his wife made everything in his bathroom. I hope I can be anywhere close to as handy as Rachel and that I find someone who appreciates it like Jun ♥️
"Acts of cat are legal"... I can think of nowhere else on the internet that this phrase would be used!! Also, I think the cat in the bag was being excited enough for both of you!!😊❤😊Happy birthday Jun🎉
Jun apologizing for not seeming like he's excited, is so funny compared to how cute he is by expressing how much love he as for his wife. By how grateful he is for the gifts Rachel made, it's so wholesome, then in the bathroom how he is completely blown away by the tray and window display. His expression may not seem like he's super excited but his word choices are the biggest give away. This video was so cute and I hope to find a husband like this oneday, your marriage always restores the idea of true love in my heart.
Even though Jun thought that he should mention the way he reacts, you could see his excitement easily! Him already wanting to play and the way he was holding everything, all of it really showed how excited and grateful he is ♡ Love it! And you did an amazing job Rachel! Everything looks awesome!!!
5:47 You and Jun make the same 'surprised' sound, which I found to be super cute. And wonderful work making things for your husband. It can be tricky buying things for loved ones, instead of simply giving them a gift card to a store they prefer, so they can buy what they like...if they haven't already. That's the thing with Adulting: when we want something, we get it, instead of even thinking that someone else would get that item for us eventually.
That's lovely, Jun might not be demonstrative in his joy, but being a 'quiet' person myself I recognize how happy he was - the cat tabletennis game at the end was just hilarious
What an incredible birthday gift, Rachel! I am so impressed at how well you can DIY things, the mirror, bath set, and trellis look so professionally made and they fit beautifully with the aesthetic of the house. I love how thoughtful each gift was and how each one shows how well you know Jun - the fact that he doesn't like his gifts wrapped because he doesn't want to waste paper, the type of plates he likes, the kinds of games he likes. It was so wonderful to see you both enjoying a game of dinner table ping pong at the end with the cats and this is so wholesome! Your videos always make me so happy and relaxed. It's so cool and inspiring to see what a beautiful home you have made for yourselves
Random aside, Rachel's outfit is BEAUTIFUL for the sponsorship section. [edit] Awww, Jun is so moved by the bathroom, you did an amazing job Rachel, you're an amazing wife!!!
It broke my heart a little to hear Jun feel he had to justify his reactions! I think to anyone with eyes it’s very clear how happy he is and how much he loves and appreciates all the effort. Happy belated birthday!
This is so cute! And Jun had no reason to be concerned, it’s so obvious he got so excited about the gifts. He noticed everything and immediately started thinking about how to use them to spend more time with Rachel. You guys have helped raise my standards for a relationship :)

Jun’s reactions were so precious, I could tell it really meant a lot to him.
Jun pondering the plates for sashimi was the perfect showcase of how he shows his enthusiasm 😆💕
I can see the plate showing up in a video soon.
Jun's sparkly eyes at 12:54 defo shows his excitement at receiving the gifts. No apologies required at all, Jun ! We see you and that's happiness!! Great job , Rachel! Keep improving em woodworking skills! 🎉🎉🎉
I still cannot get over the fact that your husband's name is Jun and his birthday is in June 😂
Anyways Happy Birthday Jun!
Jun's reaction to the first plate was actually really cute. It was a 'cogs turning in the back of the head' kind of reaction. I love that his go-to was, 'Wait, no, I can put Sashimi on it.' A creative mind never really shuts off.
You two are so damn wholesome.
That's the brightest smile I see from Jun after so many years watching Rachel & Jun. 🤣
Jun: *worried he might come off as aloof*
Me: *grinning from ear-to-ear because of his VERY OBVIOUS excitement* Nah, you're okay, I would be excited too! Happy birthday!
On the flipside, it's genuinely SO heartwarming to see Rachel put so much thought and effort into her gifts for Jun's birthday!
He shows how happy he is with his smile and his eyes. Seeing him reacting to his presents made me smile from ear to ear and even tear up.
I was so impressed by how touched he was that I did cry :'D
Three months and too many rewatches to count later and June saying "you mean so much to me" still gets me right in the feels.
I love to see how every year Rachel is surprising Jun on his birthday
This is my favorite video they've made in awhile! You can tell they both really care and and respect each other! Plus, Rachel's gifts were so well thought out! You could tell Jun really appreciated all of it!
Ping pong with Poki was so cute!!! I love that Rachel casually does all this amazing woodwork, like "oh yeah, I just completely customized this bathroom. No big deal." Makes me want to try projects too.
my cheeks ache from smiling so wide. you two are such a bright spot in the world. thank you for always sharing your vignettes of your days with us!
Love is: knowing exactly what your partner likes, and giving them the perfect birthday gift, rendering them speechless.
Happy belated birthday, Jun!
What’s sweet about this is not just how well-chosen the gifts are for Jun; it’s also how long Rachel spent making them. That’s what makes them so special. 😊
I agree!! 😌🙌
“I can’t show how happy I am”
I feel you, Jun. most time people are “why aren’t you happy?” and i am the most happy I can be, just… it’s hard to show?
Not only is your woodwork constantly improving, but you also manage to do it with cats around... That's a real feat!
The light in Jun's face says it all, he loved his presents =D Rachel you worked so hard, I hope you take a nice day too.
"Look! Look at my bathroom! It's homemade by my wife!" These two are so damn cute
Okay so... Seeing Jun in this context was super cool. He's so adorable, you can tell how much he enjoyed everything. It's much more emotion than we're used to. Good job!
All the community kitties came by at the end to wish Jun happy birthday!
Literally saving this as a comfort video. Watching you two and the cats live happy lives is so fulfilling. You're getting so good at the DIYs Rachel!
His reactions and the fact he went into Japanese because of his excitement is so wholesome! He was so happy!
Happy Birthday Jun! 🎂 🥳 🎉
I don’t know why Jun would consider himself under-whelmed because it definitely showed that he was touched by all the gestures, and I loved everything about this entire video.
13:25 "okay lets play" he looked SO excited I cry, happy birthday Jun! 🎉
The bath is so nice! Not just the beautiful handmade bath tray which was so nicely arranged, but the thoughtfully set up bath itself. Men should also be encouraged to take that time to pamper and care for themselves. I especially love how Rachel took the time to rinse off each rose petal. ❤️
Jun is usually reserved, so it's so nice to see him this excited! You did a really great job, Rachel!
Jun smiles with his eyes - it is clear how excited he was for his gifts. This is so so sweet, thanks for the little glimpses into your everyday. :)
You've got some really dedicated assistants who seem super helpful 🐱
The fact that Rachel spent all the time making Jun a gift that was useful, and hand made by her is very special. It is something that will last for decades, and be appreciated every time it is used.
(Now Jun needs to teach the cats to play ping pong with each other. LOL) Wonderful and useful gifts are always appreciated.
"LOOK AT MY BATHROOM! IT WAS ALL MADE BY MY WIFE!"
they are both adorable and so sweet 😭😭😭
I need a whole season of cat ping pong! The whole vid was so wonderfully made and it's so wholesome to watch. Thanks for posting content like this. I've been following for so long and you two never disappoint!
Their account and content is the exact thing I understand under genuine.
It just feels like they do stuff and come to the thought of " oh this could be nice content for the yt channel" and not like other yt channels " oh I'm doing this because it could be bring me views." And I love that
Ahhh, Jun's reactions were so sweet! Thank you for sharing this with us, I'm so glad Jun had a happy birthday!
Haku just throwing himself off the couch at 7:25 will always be funny to me
Nobody can win against Ping Pong Poki, not even the birthday boy! Wonderful video, amazing DIY skills Rachel, and happy birthday Jun!
I can tell Jun is generally so happy about the gifts Racheal made for him. It's so sweet and wholesome! :D
AWWW!! ❤ It's so nice to see Pichi so comfortable around you, Haku is SOOO skillful, Nagi loves to frolic, and OF COURSE Poki is Poki (MRRROWWR).
The retractable table tennis net blowing Jun’s mind was so fun! He lit up when he opened that gift
He's genuinely seems so happy, even if he doesn't have the vocab. The energy can be felt through the screen
I love that u guys dont over react, keeping it natural, its why i love this channel, but also cant forget the kitties
"Look at my BATHROOM" so cute!! Such thoughtful gifts!!!
Jun, proudly:
"Look! Look at my bathroom! It's all made by my wife!!! "
How did I only just realise after all these months that your cats match your hair colours? Haku matches Rachel and Poki matches Jun 😂
That's lovely, Jun might not be demonstrative in his joy, but being a 'quiet' person myself I recognize how happy he was - the cat tabletennis game at the end was just hilarious
It’s like Jun starts speaking Japanese when he’s excited 😂 love that lmao
Jun has such a sweet smile. This gift was absuoletly so sweet! You guys are the sweetest couples!
