    I was looking at this kit because it has a few low light options:
    1. 11-22mm
    2. 22mm f2
    3. 32mm f1.4
    4. 100mm f2.8
    5. 50mm f1.8
    Coming from Fuji every camera outside of the a7SII seems to struggle in comparison. It’s one reason I use Fuji for photography.
    But Canon has it locked down for video.

    • @sentry8992
      @sentry8992 Год назад +1

      That 32mm f1.4 is under rated. No one ever mentions it. It's the true nifty fifty when using an aps-c crop sensor camera. It gives the 50mm focal length equivalent everyone recommends.

  • @drutgat2
    @drutgat2 6 лет назад +5

    Hi Metin. Thanks very much for this. I think that this would be really useful for a lot of people. I just wanted to note (for people who may not know) that the focal length of the lenses is given relative to full frame cameras, but - for the Canon M50, with a crop-factor of 1.6 - the effective focal length of each lens is almost doubled - e.g., the 'Nifty Fifty' 50mm f 1.8 in your review is actually giving more of a 'look' closer to the kind of angle and compression that a 100mm lens would give on a full-frame camera.
    I really like the M50's kit lens (even though it could be sharper), and when I used to shoot 35mm in the old, pre-digital days, I always used a 28mm (not a 50mm) as my standard lens. So the 15-45mm kit lens approximates a 28mm at its widest angle of view. I just wish that it could open wider than f 3.5.

    • @MetinSenler

      Question , using the m50 , can you use the 15 - 45 mm kit lens with the speed booster, also do you need the adapter to use the 50 mm and the wide angle lens he used in the video?? im kinda lost, thanks

    • @rabblay9073
      @rabblay9073 5 лет назад

      @@thesetoppicks Hi there! yes! I believe you can use the 15-45mm kit lens with the speed booster, though I recommend you to do more research before buying one. Also, yes you do need to use an adapter to use the lenses that are not specifically made for M50. For example, the 50mm is an EF lens while my 55-200mm is an EF-S lens; the M50 has an EF-M mount so you can only use EF-M lenses without an adapter. In essence, you can use any lenses on the M50 as long as you put an EF-M adapter on it.

    Amazing review! I have owned a Canon G7X for many years now and learned how to use it to its maximum potential, but there are definitely some limitations that the Canon M50 unlocks with ease. May I ask how is the 22mm for vlogging? I've always enjoyed having the ability to vlog at any time of day/night, and with a stunning 1.8 aperture lens, the G7X did it like a champ. My only concern is that the 22mm would sit too close to the face to get a decent range of view. What do you think?

Now with a wife and 2 kids, I stumbled onto a video of my 6 year old doing a youtube style review of his favorite video games while his 4 year old brother did a decent job holding the ipad steady. His eyes lit up when I broke out my old Canon XTI. With the nifty 50 and my beloved 17-55 2.8f. Great video. My question is, why don't anyone recommend the Canon 32mm prime lens? That's the one you'd need to capture the 50mm focal length. The crop factor of 1.6mm has to be taken into consideration. The 32mm is the true nifty fifty when using an aps-c camera.

    • @MetinSenler
      @MetinSenler  Год назад

      Thanks! So, the 32mm wasn’t out yet when I recorded this video.
      I know what you mean, but the Nifty Fifty will always be the 50mm I showed in the video. It’s true, the 1.6 crop is essential, but that doesn’t change the fact that the nifty fifty is officially a 50mm (built for full-frame).

    Excellent video. For newbies, really good tutorial to understand the basic differences between lenses. And it's nice that you're actually filming on the camera that people are interested in seeing. So many of these RUclips videos film on a totally different camera than the one that you are interested in.

    Great video, thanks for making it. My particular slant on video making is largely live music with musicians on a dark stage in a dark club, making f stops paramount in importance. I solved it through bringing in 2 of my own lights (1x Yongnuo LED barn-door affair on a tiny tripod and 1x INSSTRO RGB light strapped to the hi-hat stand) and with lens purchases. Had I seen your video earlier I think I still would have made roughly the same buys. In the bag are ... hacked EF-S 18-55mm, hacked EF-S 24mm, EF 50mm f1.8, EF mount Sigma 28mm f1.8, Kamlan EF-M mount 28mm f1.4 ... and the 15-45mm kit lens. Let's get the kit lens out of the way first. I didn't think it worth bothering with when I bought the M50 but I read the reviews and thought it looked handy and the price! - £42. And if I ever only have room for 1 camera and 1 lens now (like when I'm out on the scooter), it's the M50 with the 15-45.
    The reason for the hacked EF-S lenses? A Viltrox speedbooster. Together with a Commlite straight adapter, all the auto-focus prime lenses now have 2 focal distances. For example, taking the APSC sensor into account, a nifty 50 will have 80mm (Commlite) and now 57mm(ish) (Viltrox). And it gives you a whole f stop more of light, [he says pointing back up to the top with the dark gigs] - so now my main issue is sound quality. Nearly there.
    Cheers

      @YourMajesty143 4 года назад

      So much weight and cumbersome adapters -- remember, you have to remove the speed booster each time you switch lenses or the camera will give you an error msg. The point of the m50 is its compact size, it defeats the purpose having all these heavy lenses & extra parts on a tiny camera body. The only lenses I need are the 11-22 mm for wide angle, 32 mm for a nifty fifty (51 mm equivalent on a full frame), and a 55-200 mm telephoto lens. Hook them on a Fii Trilens Holder at the waist and you can swap lenses out easily without having to worry about removing various parts. Plus, native lenses are always going to communicate, with the camera that they were designed for, much better.

    • @spidrespidre
      @spidrespidre 4 года назад

      @@YourMajesty143 It's my budget that has dictated my choices. I bought the EF lens for my T3i (since sold) and T4i. Then I bought an EOS M (also since sold) and the adapters before adding to the list with the Sigma 28mm. It's f1.8 which means that with the speedbooster, I can get that down to f1.2. I'm not going to get close to that with anything from the native line up. If I went for the brightest on offer (the 32mm f1.4), I'd have the equivalent of 51.2mm. That focal length is kiboshed by the EF 50mm f1.8, possibly the most popular and excellent value lens on the planet. With the speedbooster, that's f1.2 (I like this number) and 57mm. The Sigma 28mm becomes 32mm equivalent, which is right where I want it.
      I have a camera and lens kit bag of a limited size, and that kit bag is geared towards the gig work.
      I mentioned the Kamlan manual EF-M lens and the ubercheap 15-45 that I've bought since getting the M50. Well, they'll be more for outdoor daylight stuff (hiking, for example) where the light is bright enough not to give the 15-45 any trouble and I'd just add the Weebill S, a mike with deadcat and perhaps a monopod (and a Fii Trilens now I've looked it up). I have a different rucksack for that - but sadly am not able to do much hiking at the moment. I did look at the 11-22 when I was looking at the 15-45 and the price difference was just a no-brainer.
      For around the house, which right now is pretty much all of the time, I have the EF-S 24mm f2.8 on the M50 with the straight Commlite adapter, which gives me 38.4mm equiv.
      So ... if I had more native EF-M lenses I would definitely use them if they were superior to my motley EF line up. But I certainly cannot jusitfy buying pricey kit that frankly does a poorer job than my existing stuff just because it's more compact. I've never had any error messages relating the speedbooster being on the camera. And for convenience I frequently leave an adapter on the camera. I don't remember having any issues ... and the EF's communicate brilliantly with the M50 - much better than the EOS M (let's not go there) and the autofocus is faster with the adapted M50 than the T4i. Vive la Dual Pixel!
      One thing you did mention is the 55-200mm. That's got my attention as I sold my EF telephoto zoom with the T3i and haven't had anything decent since. I was going to buy the EF 70-200 f2.8 when I could afford it and other things weren't such a priority. I've just had a look at the 55-200 and it's f4.5-6.3. It would be great for wildlife but useless in low light. I think I'll keep saving.
      So you're right about using mirrorless to bring your volume and weight down. It's perfect for that and if you're starting off with just the M50, then you're not going to be looking at spending money on adapters, etc.

My default M50's standard zoom using the EF 17-40mm f4L USM lens with EF-M mount adaptor. For the sake of lightweight in daily shooting/vlogging, I always use Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens for vlogging and EF-M 22mm f2 STM for indoor for low light photo/video.

    Bro 2 doubts are there..
    1. Is it a EF-M to EF/EFS lens mount adapter you've shown in this video?
    2. Can we vlog with 50mm prime lens by holding it with our hands and get blur background even if we move some distance away camera? Does m50 track the object that is in focus at this case or prime lens just blur object background at a particular distance?

    • @MetinSenler
      @MetinSenler  4 года назад

      Bruv - Sorry for the late answer.
      1. It's the EF/EFS to EF-M to be precise
      2. Well I think the 50mm gets you toooo near to the camera when holding it. I would recommend to go with the 22mm or even a wider one. Try the kit-lens (15-35mm) which comes with the camera and check where you feel comfy
      3. The M50 has a face tracker so it will always keep a face in focus IF activated. The blurry background comes from the low aperture the 50mm provides (1.8). I will make a video example soon so hit the follow button.

  • @Grifter

      Thanks! Yes it is needed if oyu want to mount any other lens than a EF-M lens.
