The 2024 Subaru BRZ tS Is A Track Focused STI Tuned Affordable Sports Car

  • Affordable sports cars are not dead and #Subaru has just made the latest #SubaruBRZ more appealing with the reintroduction of the #BRZtS. This is a #BRZ that has been #TunedBySTI, the company's in-house performance division and while it lacks the additional turbo power that some enthusiasts wanted, it also has upgraded brakes, suspension, and styling to make this as close as possible to a #BRZSTI.

I bought a '23 BRZ 6 spd Limited as a fun car, but had to sell it because the arthritis in my knees was killing me when I drove it (yes I am a older retired dude.) Fortunately I got most of my money back. It was a fun car to drive. I live in So Cal with lots of canyon roads to explore, Angeles Crest being one of them. Perfect car for the task. I was never disappointed with the car, more in myself and my aging knees. Oh well, manuals are not an option for me anymore.

So have you found another car for fun? I’m lucky my left knee is still ok for now but the sun is setting on living with my 22 Limited.

I recently got a 2012 BRZ with HKS stage 1 supercharger kit. Similar performance to the new 2.4 - but more low down torque. Being older (60+) myself the 1st thing I noticed was: really low to get into/out and harsh ride. However I have adapted: using the lower door sills to lever myself out really helped and I quickly adapted to the ride, Enjoying the car. The steering is amazing (the car has HKS front shocks with altered geometry which really is nice)!

I drove a Supra and GR86 back to back and can honestly say I did really notice the turbo lag in the Supra compared to the instance NA response of the GR86. So I do agree that a turbo would indeed very negatively impact the character and driving experience, so it isn't just a cop out from Toyota/Subaru. Also, adding a turbo on this would kinda kill the Supra sales even more...

MSRP for the tS per Subaru website is $35,345 and you can get one at that price if you are willing to wait. The interior is not identical to the lower models. It's not a drag car if that's what you are looking for. And the fake engine sound can be permanently disabled in two minutes.

It's nice and all... but it's basically BRZ with performance package that I have. Is it track ready? I don't know... all of sudden I am happy with my FA20 instead of FA24. At least 1st Gen had proper tS (though later as highest trim)... I'm not so sure with this one. I wish Subaru will address the RTV and oiling issue.

I like the car just like the way it is. I like the clean look of the body, no big wing on the trunk lid. Some people will think it's too basic, not my case, as I said , I like the way it is. I always have said, this car needs a turbo to get better performance. This car and the Miata are cars that I like because they are RWD, they still have a manual transmission and they are fun to drive. Yes, the back seat is for children or luggage not for adults. I'm 1.70m and I would not fit back there.

I'm planning to purchase a weekend fun car in the next year or so and the BRZ is on the short list, along with the Miata. Contrary to popular opinion, I actually prefer the look of the BRZ over the 86 because it looks more grown up and not as 'boy racer' to me. I hated the wing, so I'm glad it's gone. There is no match for the open top experience offered by the Miata and the 2024 Miata brings some very nice upgrades that should improve how it drives, according to Mazda. I'd be thrilled to own either car, but I suspect the Miata would be more reliable over time. I owned a 2020 Miata and absolutely loved its perfect balance, but I have no experience with the BRZ, so I need to drive them back to back.

Please let the “turbo” B.S. go.
    1. The turbo goes underneath the engine on an FA24 and, because the engine is mounted so low (for Porsche beating low CoG) there is zero room for it.
    2. It’s an “affordable” sports car. If it were a turbo it would no longer be “affordable”, nor would it be light because the entire driveline would need to be upgraded to handle the torque. That would then mean bigger and heavier and more expensive “everything”.
    3. You’d have a car whose only rivals are the Nissan Z and the Supra…and why would Toyota want that?

Pretty gutless...kinda like the Supra..yet fun to drive?
They did give us a LITTLE bit more power in 2023 but they're AGGRESSIVELY making it as BLAH...mehh..visually BORRRINNNG . NEEDS a wrx functional hood scoop AND tasteful rear wing. Definitely NEEDS a sun/moon-roof ! Needs to lean into the whole Go-Kart feel. Rather than the grampa/Tampon hybrid.
( Aesthetically ) . This SHOULD be the much less expensive yet as fun as the Mazda Miata. I've had three of these so far and will hopefully get another one as soon as one that looks better is available. I think they're kinda like a mini Nissan GT-R in form if not funtion. I have a couple of both and maybe it's the rear seats?
ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE for ANY sports-car to lack semi-functional rear seats these days !
I LOVE my Roma, and Portofino..I'm DEEPLY in love with my 911s ! The new Targa ❤😂
    2023 Lexus LC 500
    BMW s and The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT..🤬 if it's ever flippin delivered !
I know I have an addiction.
I have the same thing with my Bowflexs and Total gyms 😂 and soon the Tonal and a couple others.
