Album: End of an Empire
Artist: Celldweller
Label: FiXT
Time, Love, Dreams and Death - all four chapters have been unveiled. Now begins the true End of an Empire.
After a year long production cycle, Celldweller has been slowly revealing bits and pieces of his third full length, studio artist album, which showcases a return to the more formative complex electronic and heavy metal elements that defined the unique hybrid that is Celldweller. Never one to rest on his laurels, Klayton raises the bar with a brand new level of production unheard of by most producers, fusing analog and digital to create something completely out of this world.
From tracks like “Good L_ck (Yo_’re F_cked)” which sound like something straight out of a neo-futuristic punk rock dive bar, to the soft and somber “Just Like You” that swells with acoustic guitars, modular synths and melodic vocals into an epic cinematic ballad. Every track brings something completely unique yet distinctly Celldweller to the table. Equal parts score and soundtrack to a science fiction movie that hasn’t been created yet, this album delivers an unparalleled experience that transports each listener to their own little world inhabited by all of the iconic characters presented throughout the chapter cycle leading up to the release of the final album.
Now sit down, buckle up, and welcome to the end.

I'm so used to hearing this as a part of a "Turbo Killer" mash-up, it's weird hearing the original.
Same
oh god yes, me too
that mash-up hits hard
I love how Celldweller songs (and those of Klayton's other bands) paint such a story or scene in archetypes in the mind, encouraging you to link them to philosophical and story concepts rattling around inside your mind when you heard them, including other media as well as general tropes and concepts. They make me _feel_ creative, like ideas crystalize around them.
Somehow this one always makes me think of the idea of a much more... low-tech, high-stakes and gritty than usual Eclipse Phase RPG campaign about an insurgency around Jupiter trying to destabilize the Jovian Republic from within, a story of those who saw the reality behind all the propaganda raging in desperate, likely doomed hope against the fundamental horror of an authority who deliberately decided upon mortality for its people when given the choice and cloaks its great atrocities of neglect and isolation behind manufactured religious fundamentalism and hyper-nationalism.
Then again, End of an Empire songs in general put me into an Eclipse Phase mood, perhaps because I discovered both at a similar time and they share a lot of thematic overlaps. Space, life, death, transcendence, growth, constraint, societal collapse and diaspora, etc. The explicit, repeated biblical allusions in this one pin it at one particular place in that setting for me, though. Wouldn't make much sense anywhere else.
It's also just a sentiment I really feel myself, honestly. "Fable of the Dragon-Tyrant" stuff. I'm _angry_ and bitter about mortality and injustice alike, and about people who use flowery ideals to argue against doing everything we can to make people's lives as long, easy, safe, and happy as we can. We're worth more than that. Little infuriates me more than those who try to fight the advancement of medicine or other technology that could make lives better because they feel it upends some divinely-appointed order, or try to deny people their needs under false notions of 'morality', putting abstractions of religion, ideology, economics, or state over the actual well-being of real people, which the abstractions were _designed_ to foster to begin with.
Very well said I was simply thinking this as well
this song gets me hyped every time i listen it, so good

I like the flashing and visuals but a seizure warning would be good
