Nikon ZF: amzn.to/4gB8CZ6
TZM 02: amzn.to/3C2TFQl
I made this film using Nikon Z6II, Nikon 50mm 1.8S, Nikon 60mm 2.8D, Nikon 28mm 2.8.
Nikon Z6 II: amzn.to/49Ylc1O
Nikon 50mm 1.8S: amzn.to/3DA6rXb
Nikon 60mm 2.8D: amzn.to/4fCPGry
Nikon 28mm 2.8: amzn.to/40k14E9
I love how the Voigtlander 40 looks so good on my Nikon ZF. The size is perfect. The aesthetic is perfect. The images are perfect. Perfect for portraits, for family outings, for just about anything. I couldn’t think of a better lens as cheap, as small, as high quality, and as good looking as this lens.
There’s only one problem: it’s manual focus.
Sometimes, I really need the advantages of autofocus. Specially with children’s portraits. Thankfully, THANKFULLY, There’s this thing called TZM02 by Techart.
So after 1 year of use, I would like to offer my thoughts on this wonderful piece of technology. The TZM02 allows full autofocus on Leica Mount lenses with eye detection. You have some rules to play by:
Rule #1: Lenses should generally be around 500g or less. What would happen if you mount a heavier lens than that? I don’t know, you tell me. This video is unsponsored, so I’m not breaking my stuff I bought with my own money.
Rule #2: Lenses should be focused at infinity to expect normal results. It’s not saying it’s not going to work if it’s not focused at infinity. It’s saying if you want normal focusing results, you have to focus at infinity. This is actually good, as it unlocks close focusing distance not usually possible with native mount lenses. But if you’re on the go on paid gig, this is important to remember.
Rule #3: Every aperture changes on your camera will set the focal length information in the exif data. I don’t really care about that too much, but I have learned to keep my aperture at 2.8 to match 40mm. TechArt has a table on their website, you can go check it out.
Rule #4: Don’t expect perfect results. This is a third party product, don’t expect perfect results. It’s noisy for video. It will hunt autofocus from time to time. It can be slower than native lenses. Technically speaking, this product is 3/5. But practically speaking, for the value it brings to the table-this is a 5/5 product.
Rule #5: don’t take it off with your camera turned on. Again, I don’t want to know what happens if I do that. Let me know instead down below.
After 1 year of use, I am confident to say I was able to take shots I would not have taken without this adapter. And honestly, unless I’m on paid gigs that require me to use other lenses. It barely leaves my ZF.

Thank you all for watching. As always, leave your questions down below and I will answer to the best of my ability. 🎉
oh, you should care. it is not just for the exif, it also tell the camera the correct focal length so the camera image stabilization can function well
Good info! Thanks
Have had this Techart adapter for my Zf for a few months now, and love it. Only bad result is to my wallet - it's prompted me to buy two M-mount Voigtlander lenses and one Thypoch one. I rarely use any Z-mount primes now and learn more about the incredible manual capabilities of the Zf every day.
Lol I feel the same way, I also see no point in buying the Z mount voigtlander lenses. I do switch to native Z lenses when making videos as they have a more natural transition when autofocusing. I've been loving the Nikon 28mm 2.8 lately which I also used in making this video. In any case both mounts are here to stay in my inventory :) Thank you for watching, have a great day.
Thanks for the video but would have much preferred if the AF operation speed was displayed
@@michamilka Thanks for the input. I would put it at around 75% speed of pro lenses.
@@hanselong Great thanks for that
The better AF adapter that has a brass M mount adapter is the Fotodiox Propronto. You can easily break Rule number 1.
Great input, thank you :)
have you compared it to the techart adapter?
Don't expect perfect results its the biggest truth / disclaimer of this video. I knew what I was getting myself into but still expected it to be a bit better for the price - so I hope that this technology advances a bit more or they keep updating the software for it.
Any tips on setup or how to get it to work more effectively? Everyone recommends different focus types but 3D focus type seems to be working best for me at the moment.
I have this set up on the ZF as well with the 35mm 1.2 - and works generally okay for non-moving subjects or if you are patient as sometimes it gets stuck in a loop of hunting for focus or switching focus back and forth and the only way to reset it or get it out of the loop is usually for me to turn the camera on and off. Another thing I noticed is that the battery life of the ZF decreases a bit when using this versus not using it. All in all though, its a beautiful gadget to play with and makes the ZF look amazing.
Thanks Ron. I agree with you and I'm on the same boat when it focus-hunts. I notice this problem comes up when I am shooting at very low apertures--especially at 1.2, and not so much at f2.8 and above. The only thing I really do is play slightly with the focus ring of my lenses and assist it. This solves my problem although I turn into a bit of a "hybrid-manual focus" shooter.
Which FW version do you use for the adapter, and did you notice any improvements after upgrading FW?
I don’t know, and I don’t care enough to know. If I was worried about AF speed, I’ll use native lenses.
Hansel. Thank you for posting this video. I’ve been attempting this same setup on a Z6III and the lens seems to be constantly hunting for focus. I have the lens set to infinity and am using continuous AF. Is there something I am missing? Are you also getting green box focus confirmation? Thanks in advance for any help or insight.
I didn’t realize the adapter doesn’t support the z6III. That is probably the issue.
I'm sorry to hear that. When I got my TZM02, it came with a docking station that I can connect to my computer for firmware updates. Here is the website: techartpro.com/?page_id=5988
Have you tried sending them an email? techartpro.com/?page_id=406. When I emailed them a few months ago, they were responsive to me within 72 hours.
Just want to reiterate I am in no way affiliated with Techart. I wish the best of luck to you.
Also might be a weird idea, but try the AF-S setting (as opposed to the AF-F) in your Z6III, in the small chance it could work.
I buy Voigtländer Lenses to avoid autofocus !!! Btw, the best precision adapters are made by Novoflex !
Good for you :) thanks for watching, have a great day
