  • A five day backpacking trip, in September 2017, starting at North Lake, through Evolution Valley and finishing at South Lake. On day one we hiked over Piute Pass into Humphrey's Basin. On day two we crossed the Piute Creek Bridge, into Kiings Canyon National Park, onto the John Muir Trail. On day three we crossed Evolution Creek and hiked through Evolution Valley to the base of Muir Pass. On day four we descended into Le Conte Canyon, left the John Muir Trail and started our ascent of Bishop Pass. On day five we crossed over Bishop Pass and descended down to South Lake along the Bishop Pass Trail.

How did you get from S Lake to N Lake? Is there a shuttle, hitchhike, or walk? Plan on doing this with my daughter this Aug, so any info would be appreciated. Love the video also. Thanks

We finished the hike in the afternoon and there were several people in the parking lot. Two different people offered us a ride back to North Lake. You can hire a shuttle but it is expensive. There is also the Lake Sabrina Trail that starts on South Lake Road and ends at Lake Sabrina. We were going to hike it until we got a ride.

What dates in September did you go? I'm doing the same trip early Sept in 2 weeks. Not sure if I should bring any type of boot studs for snow. As well, how cold did it get at night?

I did this hike in the second week of September last year. There was a lot of snow that previous winter. You should not have any problems this year. I was hiking near Kearsarge Pass in July and did not see any snow. I am not sure what the temperature was . I had a 0 degree sleeping bag and it was too warm. I think a 20 degree bag would have been better. I hope you have a fantastic hike. Evolution Valley is amazing. I think it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.

Your video was lovely TYVM for sharing I enjoyed every second!!! However if may, while I truly appreciate and liked your music, it was IMO too loud and somewhat of a distraction. Apart from that a lovely post. All the best!

Thank you, I appreciate your input. I realize the music can be a distraction. The most difficult part of making the video was deciding what music to put with it. In the future, I plan to make some of my videos without any music at all. I posted a video without music called the Raven Cliff Falls and would greatly appreciate your input on that as well.

I enjoy a commentary more than music

Ditch the music. How about just talk and talk about the trail, stream crossings, whatever.

Dirk Diggler I don’t think the main thrust of this video is a travelogue. I think the point is to mainly express how the author felt while traveling the high country - beautiful country!
