  • Happy New Year to all viewers and welcome to a special upload to the channel of footage taken at Crewe on the morning of Monday 8th January 2024 where we see unique Rail Operations Group Class 37/9 37901 "Mirrlees Pioneer" delivering the Brand New Class 93 93001 on 6Q42 Worksop Down Yard to Crewe South Yard. The new locomotive is set to begin static tests in a matter of days before venturing onto the mainline under it's own power sometime in February. Built by Stadler as a beefier version of the Class 88 previously ordered by DRS, the Class 93 is a tri mode loco and is the first of 30 on order to arrive in the UK. Three different power sources will be used to power the locomotive - 4,000 kW (5,400 hp) 25 kV AC overhead electric power, or a 900 kW (1,200 hp) diesel engine supplemented by a 400 kW (540 hp) battery - allowing the locomotive to be used on both electrified and non-electrified lines. Building of these machines commenced back in June 2022 and they come with a 4 stroke V12 twin turbo diesel engine with Caterpillar (CAT) C32 Prime Mover supplemented by the already mentioned Batteries and Pantograph as well and the loco can reach upto 110mph. Hope you enjoyed this footage of my first look at one of these locomotives!

As it's a dual power loco, I wonder if the 93 is going to be used on the Sheffield to Kings Cross runs? Especially as they have been testing it around the Sheffield to Worksop area.
