For those wondering, the custom at the cemetery represents a black wedding (Crna svadba in Serbian). It is also practiced in some parts of Serbia among the Vlachs. For those interested in the occult, this is an interesting concept to explore and read about

I think this man was traumatized as a child in more than one situation. But what pushed him to do this I think was the dead girl he was forced to kiss and be married to. I think he had Psychriatic issues since childhood. So at one point he should be released into a halfway house and be monitored constantly due to his medication and condition. Keeping him behind lock & key is not the answer. Clearly he has some serious mental health conditions. The problem also lied with him parents and never listened to him at all.

Someone said in one of the comments above that it's an occult ritual called a black wedding. It probably attached some spirits to him that made him go insane. The occult is real. Dark spirits are real. The devil sometimes does make people do it.
I'm wondering if he experimented with magic mushrooms at all. Those can open gateways for even more spirits to infect a person's soul. It is more severe if they're already primed for dark entities to take hold. I'm surprised he's even still alive.

Based on what you have said about Anatoly Moskvin, he is probably not a danger to humans, and so if he were released would probably not kill or harm anyone. However, if his positive and negative symptoms are bad enough, he would quite possibly return to grave-robbing and would probably not be able to take care of himself. In addition to this, if he is on a large cocktail of drugs to control his schizophrenia, he could well be in the situation that the side effects of the medication (such as sedation) make it difficult for him to work and support himself, which could mean he would stop taking his medication on release and his psychosis would return. I think he would probably do better in some form of psychiatric care home.

Sad. This man had the potential and intentions to do so much GOOD in this world. Which I honestly belive he could have saved alot of kids if he was in his right mind. But his trauma and mental illnesses were just the cards he was delt. Technically he didnt harm any kids and just wanted to give them a longer life. He just did it in a very unconventional and macabre way.

tbh, it sounds like he was born autistic but was never diagnosed, as such a diagnosis didn’t exist back then in the USSR. And then he was traumatized on multiple occasions. He never received the help he needed and went through so much trauma that contributed to him developing a mental illness later in life. I feel sorry for this man, damn, I expected him to turn out to be a serial killer, he endured so much abuse and neglect but he never hurt anyone. He didn’t mean to hurt the parents of those children, he simply believed he could revive the corpses…he treated them with love and respect, although at the beginning of the story, I expected to hear a different scenario, involving him r*ping their bodies. My heart broke when I found out that he was subjected to abuse and beatings in the psychiatric ward to which he was sentenced.
I’m sorry, man. That’s a wild world. There are so many people out there walking freely in the streets that are way more evil than he is, including those doctors who were violent to him.

13:10 I notice you put a picture of Elena de Hoyos whose corpse was stolen by Carl Tanzler and also basically turned into a doll. The stories seem to be similar now that I think of it. I believe he had visions of his ancestors saying he needed to marry her and she ended up dying of TB before he even knew her so he paid for her burial and stole her body.
I’m new to your channel, and I really enjoy these types of videos. Tanzler would also make an interesting video if you haven’t already! Wishing you and your channel the best and hope you continue to grow and produce great content.

There's something sadly sentimental about keeping the "dolls" close, but that wasn't likely the mindset of this man. He wasn't robbing graves for the intimacy of loving someone who cannot leave, but because his specific delusions related to black magic and the restoring of life through the dark arts. He's more like an inspired Dr.Frankenstein than a lovelorn madman or any sort of would-be father. I've known a few people who are paranoid schizophrenic, and they just generally don't seem like sentimental people. I think this man believed wholeheartedly in his project, and his behavior was going to continue until life was restored.

What he did, he did from a place of compassion, seemingly. But of course, for those not sharing in is delusions, it's horrific.
It's sad, and I gooe the man can get help and compassion. If he hadn't had his own demons to battle, perhaps he could have done some great deeds.
    It's tragic.

I'm not discounting the paranormal but a potential explanation for Anatoli's visions/dreams after the funeral, especially given his young age, it could very well have just been a response to trauma. After the first time (of about a dozen) my ex overdosed on my watch and I had to administer CPR (which I had to figure out on the fly as I'd never learned how) I vividly saw her lifeless blue face every time I closed my eyes for about a month. That dead/dying version of her silently followed me in my nightmares for a long time, occasionally making strained, choked breathing sounds. I was 18, He was just a kid. We all process trauma differently but some details lined up with my own response to a traumatic event so I figured I'd give my two cents. Regardless I couldn't imagine going through what he did at such a young age.

For those confused by the wedding ceremony described in the beginning, let me explain: in traditional Indo-European (which includes the Slavic tribes) and Asian religious beliefs, the spirits of ones family have a significant impact on your daily life, and ancestral veneration is deeply important. A dead family member who never got to marry or live a full life can become a restless, bitter, and violent spirit if not appeased. The little girl in question never got to grow up and have a proper wedding, so her parents married her off after death to prevent that tragedy from twisting her spirit. 40 days is an ancient "spiritual turnaround time" in Slavic cultures. After 40 days, the soul is believed to depart Earth for the afterlife, which is why Anatoly was told to keep the "contract" until that point; they wanted to make sure her soul moved on.

I feel so bad for Anatoly. Genius always walks a very thin line; one breath at just the wrong moment can tip them over into insanity. He had parents who don't seem to have much concern for their young child's psyche when he was bullied, assaulted, raped, and forced to kiss a corpse when he was obviously not understanding what the he'll was going on. I think he was a very compassionate caring human being. He just took that compassion to a bad place.
I wish that he could be cared for in a decent mental health facility that would take proper compassionate care for him for the rest of his life.

I live in the US, Texas. I had to think about this before I commented. I'm torn like you. A part of me understands the outrage of what this person did. However, looking what is happening to kids today, I have empathy as well. We have kids having their sex changed! Kids being sold into Sex Slavery or worse. Kids being attacked simply because they make easy victims. Now, I look at this man who wanted bring back kids from death. I look at this and can't help but think, "Anatoly could have done FAR worse." He could have molested, killed and kept kids in his back yard. He could have have tried to keep kids in a basement like Marc Dutroux. So many things run through my mind. I cannot help but think of things being allowed here in the US and the West in general to kids. Yeah, what Anatoly did is wrong, but given Robert Black, Marc Dutroux, Gacey, Epstein, Adam Montgomery, Chris Watts, Steve McDougal, and changing the sex of kids, I can come away with empathy in this as well. Anatoly Moskvin could have been far more Evil.

I just can't hate him. I feel nothing but empathy for all involved. They all suffered.

Far too much risk that all this time locked up he has had chance to think about ‘giving a second chance’ to live children as well as the dead ones (and making dead kids into dolls is not the go). But no need to torture the poor guy. How did his family not guess that his ‘art project’ dolls were not corpses I do not know?! "In an interview after his arrest, Moskvin stated he felt great sympathy for the dead children and thought that they could be brought back to life by either science or black magic. As an expert on Celtic culture, Moskvin learned that the ancient Druids slept on graves in order to communicate with spirits of their dead. He also studied the culture of the peoples of Siberia, in particular the ancient Yakuts, and discovered they had a similar practice for communicating with the dead.
Moskvin began searching for obituaries of recently deceased children. When he found an obituary that "spoke" to him, he would sleep on the child's grave in order to determine if the spirit wished to be brought back to life. Moskvin claimed he had been doing this for around twenty years and insisted that when he began, he never dug up a grave without the permission of the child within. As he grew older, it became physically painful for him to sleep on the graves, so he began bringing the bodies home where it would be more comfortable to sleep near them. He hoped the spirits would be more willing to speak in a safe, welcoming home and that they might be easier to hear when they were no longer underground."
Moskvin was aware that he was committing a crime, but felt the dead children were "calling out" to be rescued and believed that rescuing the children was more important than obeying the law.
What he did was wrong yes, but not from ill intention, keep in mind that this is a person grew up with traumas and mental illness. He certainly does not have a necrophilia fetish, he never violated any of the bodies for sexual pleasure, all evidences suggested he simply wished to revive the children because he felt remorse for their young passing.
If he had appropriate guidance he could have became a great mortician and use his talent in the right place

I don’t understand some peoples obsession with releasing criminals and giving them a “second chance” at the price of those surrounding them. Like these kinda criminals can live peacefully in a well regulated prison, releasing them is preposterous. They can be given a second chance, in a better quality prison.

You have to draw a line between people who are too far gone and people who CAN be successfully rehabilitated, and another line between violent criminals and mentally ill people.
