Ahhhh, this was sure something! While it's not always 100% comfy to remember, I also have a fond place in my heart for side ponytail Ash :) How do you experiment with appearance? Also, please share an embarrassing fashion phase or dorky hairstyle you sported in your past to make me feel better. Thank you XP
Ash, thank you for being a voice for those nonbinaries who need it. I'm struggling to be more open with my own nonbinary nature; seeing you openly discuss your gender journey is inspiring!

ImFromThePlanetPluto Hello! 💕😄
I’m a female and I’ve always been one. I never understood what it felt like to not love who I am. My cousin is transgender and I wanted to understand him better. When I started watching you Ash you helped me understand him more! Thank you!
Kaylee Spears you could say you are cis female
Ash is not the common transgender person. Watch more people such as Kalvin Garrah or ty turner
If you're going to watch any trans RUclipsrs, I wouldn't go for Kalvin. Go look at JammieDodger, he's a pretty chill dude with the same energy as Ash.

I'm loving all the "you can dress as whatever" vibes you always give. I'm nonbinary (fem aligned) and I dress pretty femininity. Sometimes I feel weird-ish about that because sometimes it feels like anyone nonbinary at all has to be 100% androgynous, so that you for the positive reinforcement!
Ace of Cats tbh I really don’t understand this at all. If you are non-binary doesn’t that mean you don’t want to be identified as exclusively male or female. How can your opinion of what your gender is change overnight and day to day. I don’t even understand what an agendered person would be able to wear that would make them feel comfortable. I can understand not feeling like a male and feeling like a female, and vice versa, but I don’t understand changing genders everyday. You don’t have to change your gender or identify as something different to put on different clothes. just dress however you want to??? Not trying to be rude, seriously just trying to understand where you’re coming from.
@@Special-mg5kh 1. non-binary isn't just agender. It's an umbrella term for anyone who isn't strictly woman or man. Some of them have no gender but a lot of them do have one, it's just not woman or man, or both at the same time. 2. gender identity and gender expression are two different things. Non-binary people can look feminine or masculine and that doesn't make them less non-binary. Like girls can wear boy clothes and vice versa but that doesn't mean they'd identify themselves as the opposite gender. Hope that makes sense.
Your editing is absolutely amazing as usual

Hungarian has a word for non brownary, It's called seszinü (with accents my keyboard doesn't know), meaning "non-of-it-coloured", but instead of being a term for all colour-non-conforming hair shades, it describes a specific mix of brown, blond and a bit of grey. What a lenguage.
This is such a positive channel. I’m not trans or non binary at all but you’re so positive x
I agree, they always cheer me up.
Same here, I'm not even apart of the LGBT+ community at all (besides supporting obviously) but Ash is just such a chill person, I could watch them all day!
Plus their message is so universal: be yourself, because who you are is valid.
The things Ash teaches us about gender can be applied to so many other facets of life. That identities don't always fit cleanly into boxes, that it's okay to play around with your identity to figure it out. That it IS okay to fit cleanly into a box if that's what feels best for you. I could go on.
With all due respect, but if you're trying to educate yourself on trans issues, please seek out a channel that's based on medical evidence and facts rather than this. I'm all for people being themselves, but this doesn't represent the actual transgender community in the slightest.
Transgender literally means; when a person identifies with a different gender than their assigned sex. Medically, only 2 genders and sexes (unless you count intersex) are recognised aka none of the god knows how many tumblr genders. As a transgender man who's been diagnosed with dysphoria and has been through the majority of his transition, I'd simply like you to know that this does not mirror what trans is to 99% of the transgender community and I think it's important to keep that in mind ; ) Everything Ash is talking about has no medical or scientific evidence to show for it.
Levi - I completely agree with you and have done a lot of my own research. I just like the atmosphere of their channel. 😊💕
My brain automatically tried to gender you when I first saw you and it just came up blank so you're doing good

I'm just now starting to express who I truly am. I've never liked my chest so I've finally started looking for ways to bind and it makes me more comftorble in my own skin, I'm not in a very accepting family so I can't get an actual binder. I've also asked my friends to refer to me as they/them and as Alex. I've been more comftorble with myself. It took me forever to come out to myself as non-binary/genderfluid, and then took me longer to ask my friends to refer to me with they/then pronouns and with a more gender nuteral name. I've been happier with mt self ever since, and I'm so luck to have such accepting friends and a teacher around me, wich from what I know is bi so yay.
ayy my fellow genderfluid peep. Hi!! I also have a very unaccepting family as well! I have wanted to wear a binder too bc I never liked my chest. Of course, my mother dislikes anyone under the trans umbrella so I couldn't get one. I told all of my friends to call my by my chosen gender neutral name which is Ro and I use all pronouns so they change on a day to day basis. I like to wear a bracelet to represent each set of pronouns and the great part is, my mother doesn't know what it means lol. pink= she/her green= they/them Blue=he/him.
You are not alone on this journey and you have so many people out there to support you! hope you are stayin safe and healthy out there!

My best friend from college recently came out as non-binary. When I met her, she dated boys and wore dresses! Then she came out as lesbian and started dressing more androgeonously. Then she started dating a bisexual woman (whom she is still in a relationship with now 6 years later!). About a year ago, I found your channel, and you reminded me SO much of her (and yes, my friend does still go by she/her pronouns as of now!). Your appearance, your mannerisms, even the way you talk is SO much like her. Anyway I showed her your channel and I'm pretty sure she binge watched you for a few days or weeks, and she fell in love with your channel! She later told me she didn't even know what non-binary was until she watched you, but the things you said and the ways you felt really clicked with her. A couple months ago, she started binding her chest bumps. She was so happy! (I'll also add, her girlfriend has been 100% supportive throughout, as has her family.) In the past few weeks, she's been talking more and more about how she wants to get top surgery. As her best friend and complete supporter, what's the best advice I could give her? I'm a straight cis female who has never gone through any of this, but I don't consider myself to be completely oblivious either. I want her to be happy and I will support her through anything, but it's hard for me to find the right things to say that are supportive but still realistic. I worry that she will jump into something and have some sort of regret later (not that I don't take her desires and wishes seriously - of course I do - but it's a major surgery and a huge decision, and I would want her to take it slow no matter WHAT the surgery was). I didn't mean to ramble there. Hope I made sense. I'm just wondering if you, or anyone, has some advice on how I can be an even more supportive friend. (Also, if you're watching this, my best friend, you know who you are, HI! :D )
Oh and I forgot to say, THANK YOU ASH for helping me understand more about a community I love but am not a part of, but more importantly, thank you for being a part in helping my best friend continue her journey of self-discovery. :) You're great and you're doing great things. If you're ever feeling down on yourself, just remember that I have at least one person whose life you have changed (and I know there are countless more, too).
I'm a cis lady but lately i've been feeling the more masculine look lately. Button up shirts all the way kind of thing. Bow ties or necklaces. I was invited to a wedding and instead of a dress I decided to wear a blazer and pants and saddle shoes. I'm heteroflexible, and I only say this because its sort of expected that women express femininely to attract masculine men, but I don't feel that compulsion. I like men and I like expressing myself masculinely.
TheWonderGinger I feel the same, I think I’m more comfortable expressing myself masculinely but I’m still not brave enough to show it. If I was invited to a wedding I would probably miss it cause I’m not comfortable wearing dresses and I don’t have the courage to show up wearing a blazer :(
Honestly I never even thought of this before until now, never really think of the expectations society have for women...it makes me think
Same. Phew. I'm not alone. I like men and I like expressing myself more masculine (although I am feminine sometimes) as well.
Yep I'm experimenting with this too. I still have my more feminine go to's but I've started buying men's button ups in fun prints. Next step is to get a skinny tie.
I’m a completely straight woman, and I was very conservative, that you’re born a girl and you stay a girl and marry a man. UNTIL, my mom married a man, and his son is having a lot of self identity problems. I think he’s scared of being judged. We would support him no matter what btw. But my step sister came out as Bi this past summer and I seriously credit my open mindedness to people like you. It opened up my mind and saw that not all people are the same and people in the LGBTQ+ are some of the most down to earth, AMAZING people ever. So thank you. ❤️
Dude... Love you're work & am CRAZY honored that you used Obsession
1) I really liked the point "They can't come out of the photo and make you look like that." I've only recently started being able to look at old pictures of me and remember how much fun I was having, intead of going "This GIRL isn't me, put it away!"
2) I have the same hair colour, I call it brown.
You are a wonderful human Ash. Thank you for sharing your journey, you’ve been such a beacon of light for the nonbinary and lgbtq community as a whole. Much love and solidarity to you 💛
This video was really good for me. I am afab female, but I’m not ‘girly’. I cut my hair short, so a lot of people I know thought that it made me ‘not a girl’ it is something that I’m really insecure about. Hearing someone else say that I can have short hair, only wear jeans and hoodies, never wear makeup and still be a girl is really nice.
hey ash, I'mma be honest- I thought you were ftm trans, not even non binary and I just began watching your videos. Anyway, I am also non binary! I haven't come out to anyone but friends, and I was wondering if you have any advice to kinda look like it more. my parents don't know so I still have my birth gender clothes, is there a way to use them to make myself kinda look less feminine(probably spelt wrong)?
also do you have any specific pronouns you would like to go by?(I know you probably wont see this but anyone can help me with this)
I go by max and they/them pronouns :)
~Max ♡
I think Ash said they're comfortable with whatever pronouns.
If your parents see you as a girl, you probably have more wiggle room with clothing than if they saw you as a guy, because women's clothes are strange and non-standard for a guy, according to Le Bullshit Book of Gender Norms. I've got a friend who buys men's shirts just because they're a better selection for her, so maybe you can take comfort in a little bit of androgyneity from masculine clothing, which tends to be less gender-coded, while not having to make it super public?
If that's not your thing, maybe some options common to guys and gals alike? Jeans are obviously different, but idk how much the difference is or how much you're trying to lean into androgyneity.
I'm not an expert, and YMMV depending on how much control you have over buying your clothes and whether the selection available makes you feel comfortable, but even two hours and a changing room in a clothes shop can suss out what makes you the most comfy, and for free, as well. You could get a second opinion (in case you've lost your first! *fingerguns*).
And if you see a piece of clothing you really like when shopping with parents that you think works really well for you and it happens to be a man's, they'll probably not care about its assigned gender too much? Might be a warning sign if they do, but idk.
I'd like the record to reflect I'm still not an expert and if you burn down the mall using my advice, I accept no responsibility.
Also Max is a kickass name! It can be short for Maxine (very feminine), or Maximilius (literally the most masculine name on the planet), or just be Max.
Forgot to say you're valid!
@@MarkusAldawn I just chose max because of the fact its gender neutral, but thank you for the advice! Its very much appreciated. I have a school dance in June so I have to wear a dress but it's not extremely like girly so I'm slowly stepping out of the closet I guess lmao
I'm amused at how your smile in those photos is so often "I'M FINE EVERYTHING IS FINE OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING SOMEONE GET ME OUT OF HERE."
Hi Ash! I just wanted to thank you. I remember adding you on TrevorSpace! Though I'm not trans or non-binary you helped me come out to my family as gay. So thank you, you've helped me grow into the person I am today. ❤
I was not expecting the different end song!! I started singing the old one before it’d even started and then I had a v comical pause mid-word
I'm also nonbinary, and I used to have hair that was pretty long, below the shoulders. I decided a while ago to cut my hair much shorter, and it was the best decision I have ever made regarding my appearance (that and wearing a tie -- 10/10 would recommend)
Lol no such thing as "non-binary
Honestly? Even just completely out of context and with no explanation or reasoning behind it for why you chose that haircut... That haircut just genuinely looks so good on you. I really like it a lot.
The binary of hair commentary made me LOL!! 🤣🤣
That's so cool you are paying the people that sent fan art! All of it was great!
7:15 made me giggle lol! I just wanted to say that I appreciate everything you do for the LGBTQ+ community. I am a supporter, not a part of it, but I think it is good for people to feel confident in there own unique body and mind! Love your videos!
Seeing photos of pre-figured-out Ash makes me so sad because I can see the sadness in their eyes.
Ahhh I’m so happy that you used this song bc I love Sinclair, btw such a great vid ily💜
purple hair Ash was awesome, i'm glad you got to experiment with that back then :)
As a person that respects LGBTQ and doesn't know a lot about it..
..i just honestly love his personality..OVERALL
Ash uses they/them pronouns but your heart is in the right place
Angel Rose they are pronoun indifferent i though..?
I can not get over how amazing this is honestly. For you to be so comfortable in your own body. You're not just nonconforming to piss off the world it's just who you are... a beautiful person inside and out. Watching your videos has helped me a lot as I've started transitioning myself and I just can't thank you enough for being so amazing.
gosh i miss ash :(
Same
The flower pictur at 10:05 seems to be expressing a fanfiction trope called Hanahaki, which is where flowers grow in the chest and on the body in response to unrequited love or unresolved feelings.
I love all of your videos, thank you for uploading. you make my day when i watch your videos.
i love how supportive ash is of all of the artist. They always appreciate every single piece. so wholesome. so kind.

Love that
“Hip leather things?!” -Ash
“This Ash girl looks French“
And that was it!! 🤣
Every time you talk about gender expression I get the urge to try out more androgynous stuff, catch me looking at button downs and snapbacks for the next few days😂
My middle school self with long hair who didn't know trans people existed found you through Hannah hart. I was very jealous of how good you looked with the side pony tail and attempted to look as good as you to fit in with the girls. It in fact made it worse because I didn't want the long hair and I was internally competing with someone who was also trying hard and editing themself. I don't know the time line of when you cut your hair and when I cut mine, but it did help a lot for both of us I think. I currently identify as a binary trans guy, so it's not the same journey, but it's very cool to look at this transition for both of us. Thanks for the help to embrace my past lesbian identity and deal with long hair and insecurities later known as dysphoria.
I already understand dysphoria and non-binary people, but I loved learning more 👌💕
I’m so glad they decided to be theirself ☺️ it warms my heart
Edit: and I think Ash has light brown hair
Seeing you talking right next to your old photos make me so happy, because you look much happier and satisfied with yourself today than in in the photos.
I'm so happy you found your good place.
You are so inspirational for so lots of teenagers❤️
therapist: photos of your past coming to make you look at them isn't real and can't hurt you
Blonde to brown really is a spectrum, haha, 'non-blondary' made me snort-laugh xD I'd say you're in that space where it really could go either way, but is probably most accurately a dark dirty/mousy blonde. Cusping on light brown, but there's definitely more kinda yellow/gold blonde underlaying tones than brown/brunette ones, so still technically blonde.
I feel like everyone hates because I'm a straight female who watches you, people say I don't understand you because, well.. as said before, I'm a straight female. I honestly just love watching you. I think you're cute and adorable. Idc what you are/what you identify as. I respect you, you're amazing and I love ya, Ash!
Ash, where do you get the get the music in your intros is it a playlist or anything?
the side pony throwbacks made me think about how long I’ve been following you, so I went and checked... FOUR YEARS. that’s so much growth you’ve been through!
Watched this a year and a half ago when I thought I was cis, now I’m nonbinary
Skillshare is such a smart sponsorship for this channel. Every time I watch you I think about learning to edit, and then BAM here's a website where you can learn that!
The vid should be called why I am a magical flying rainbow unicorn potato!💙lots of love ash💖💙❤
Anikeniey Greedes 🌈🌈🌈🥔🥔🥔
@@HeyThere005 YAY!💖
my science teacher is trans. She has a lgbtq+ poster outside of her classroom, and she sometimes wear a pin with the trans flag colors. When I was told she was once a man, I was really surprised. All the kids at my school are calling her Mr. (not to her face) and it really upsets me. I always call her by her preferred pronouns. I really respect the lgbtq+. She is actually leaving school for 2 weeks for surgery which I am guessing is for her full transformation. so yea. just a lil story.
