Can you make a follow up video after paint ? I would love to see the finished product , and you should make some forms so you can duplicate . People would definitely buy your kit if it was available . Great work as per usual !
I agree forms would have been a good idea not just for other people but for yourself. When the guy drifts in to a wall or somthing and destroys his custom work.lol this way you dony have to go through all that to make him new ones.

Not a bad end result but you certainly made a lot more work for yourself than needed. You had a nice smooth surface to lay glass down and then stuffed it laying cling wrap and foil creating wrinkles everywhere when you should have used a release agent then gel coated then layed the glass. Then pulled it off and used it as a mould to make a flawless copy that would have required next to no filler work at all. Time= money. You also added much more weight using so much filler making that 1000hp engine now work much harder to move more weight!
Looks great! Considering the same for a Prelude project. Not quite as wide. How do you recommend attaching the panels to the original rear quarters so that the physical mount points are never seen?
I really thought you were going to use them as a buck/mould for laying the actual fenders. Wouldn't have been that much more work and you would've had a quick way to reproduce one in the event of a crash. Great work either way. Looks awesome, and tasteful lines. Certainly a professional job no matter how you slice it.

there is a metal and body man in bristol england who does wide body mods and rally arches, but metal sometimes aluminium and sometimes he just seems to slice cuts in the rear quarters, pulls out the metal to where he wants the arches and tigs pieces of new metal in, a real artist just like this bloke. only i suppose doing it in metal is more permanent, but very similar end results.

So I'm new to this whole DIY body thing, but would it be better to take off original body panels when placing the new panels back on for finishing touches? I assume it would be a lighter result. Or are they there for extra support? Or does it not make much of a difference at all?
Edmund Alailefaleula the rear quarter panels do not bolt off they would have to be cut off and the weight reduction wouldn't be much, I'm not too familiar with silvias but i believe the structural integrity would be unaffected by the removal, i think it would just be a lot of work for a very small result, hope this helps
+Edmund Alailefaleula To add to what the guy above said, I am familiar with Silvias and the answer to your question is "cut the wheel arch to get the clearance you need, but cut only what you have to, then fold, weld, seal the cut, then weld on an extension from the lip and seal it to the new fibreglass guard". Technically, if you're prepared to cut the spot welds you can remove the rear quarter panels on a Silvia, but being a monocoque chassis, it's a big job and one that you would only ever undertake unless you had to do so, due to serious panel damage. For a widebody, you *always* leave the rear quarters on, and I've never seen a kit that replaced all of the metal. The weight difference would be negligible, and the difference in strength, complexity, time and fit/finish makes it a terrible idea. If you thought that sculpting those widebody guards was a mission, imagine sculping the *entire rear of the car* as you suggested. I'd leave that one to the students working for the car manufacturers, as you'd basically be sculpting a new car.
Watching your claywork vids made me wanna take this up as a summer project for my car, lol. How much clay do you use on panels this large? I'm guessing it's a few buckets of clay that get used for this process?

Yes I can build surf boards out of carbon fiber if you want.
You would lay the carbon over the top of a Styrofoam core like a lot of surf boards. It would float just fine. But it would look super cool!

Gel coat is from any fiberglass outlet. The bog is called New Tech. It is a 50% carbon fiber and 50% alloy mix

Modern way to do it is 3D scan and then have the mold made or even 3d printed and then cast fiberglass/carbon fiber parts.
