And how can we be sure no one with ill intentions tampered with the measuring tape, maybe someone staff member knew about this and replaced the measuring tape by a fake one where an inch is not an exact inch, it's a bit off, to keep the height of Jake Gyllenhaal all for him/herself? Or the camera didn't film the entire tape, we just saw the top part, so the rest could have been tampered with. All of us will have to live our lives, knowing we will probably never know exactly how high Jake Gyllenhaal is. This mystery is a burden we all share, but I believe in the strenght we have within each one of us, that we will be able to handle it.

You should definitely check out Starlee's ”The Mystery Show” podcast. This woman has the ability to take the most trivial, pointless, annoying question and turn into something truly magical. I for once did not care about Jake Gyllenhaal and I absolutely despise celebrity obsession culture, but by the end of that episode I felt like my life had been completed.

This is super funny. It looked more like 5' 10" to me. But I think you're supposed to stand with legs together and measure from the heel over the butt and to the top of the head, then taking into account the half inch he lost over the course of the day-- there's no telling how tall he is.
Looking closer to 70 inches than 71 inches. But Starlee Kine is right about Max height and Min height. The body is made of segments and these segments can be compressed under the weight of the body. You can lose up to 2 inches in height from this and reach your minimum height at the end of the day. The more relaxed the body is, the taller it will be in the morning or even at any time. Posture plays a huge role too.

Having said that I am at a desk all day with probably not optimal posture in the archaic office chair. Not to mention to the train ride home, the gym. Actually it's not one guy. The website she's talking about is celebheights. They list every celebrity and try to guess the "real" heights. You have people analyzing photos, taking interviews etc. They list almost everybody's height as less than their stated heights. If it sounds like I know a little too much about that site, it's because I used to view it way before this interview.

If he was standing straight up and feet together against a wall that has the height on it, we would have a better reading. So Conan is right that it doesn't measure shit.

You should definitely check out Starlee's ”The Mystery Show” podcast. This woman has the ability to take the most trivial, pointless, annoying question and turn into something truly magical. Looking closer to 70 inches than 71 inches. But Starlee Kine is right about Max height and Min height. The body is made of segments and these segments can be compressed under the weight of the body. You can lose up to 2 inches in height from this and reach your minimum height at the end of the day. The more relaxed the body is, the taller it will be in the morning or even at any time. Posture plays a huge role too.
More like less than an inch…unless you have terrible posture or some back problem which prevents you from standing tall.

Having said that I am at a desk all day with probably not optimal posture in the archaic office chair. Not to mention to the train ride home, the gym. Etc. but I know people that lose a full inch from out of bed to before bed.

It's not really confusing at all. Just takes a teensy bit more brain power to round up or down to the nearest inch or half inch.
Its easy enough to convert them. I can safely guess this man is 70.5 inches or 179.1 cm to be exact which is just a literal hair's width under 5'11 but in those shoes would easily be 181 and a half which is 5'11 without a sweat.

Actually it's not one guy. The website she's talking about is celebheights. They list every celebrity and try to guess the "real" heights. You have people analyzing photos, taking interviews etc. They list almost everybody's height as less than their stated heights.
If it sounds like I know a little too much about that site, it's because I used to view it way before this interview.
I love how this literally only encourages the debate.
