Longline and a few well timed interruption’s. Also part exchange those sheep for some slower heavier and more confident Tups. She’s had her head for a bit now, and harassing the sheep to much, needs to have a little respect for them also. How you enjoying your career change? Best wishes Steve

Were the sheep dogged before you started training her? Menna wants to work she just needs time and if you go to the sheep instead of pushing her off she will keep off the sheep more. Stay close with the sheep and guard them, and let Menna work unless she does something really silly. If you slow down and stay close to the sheep off the fence she will relax. The more you relax and are less tense the more Menna will relax. The more patience and confidence you have in her, the more confidence she will gain in her work. Easier said than done with an anxious full on dog. Lol!!

@@thinkingabouttrainingadog2768 Well undogged sheep make it much harder for a young untrained dog. Young dogs need calm dogged sheep to work until they gain confidence and control over sheep.

You are bang on there Wayne!! Easier said than Done!!
It is difficult staying calm with a super motivated young dog, scared sheep and an inexperienced handler !!
I am talking from experience and enjoying every moment !!
When I see the work that these dogs do for us on our small farm it is really worth the effort to try and train them correctly !!
      Regards Eddie.

I am surprised you didn’t consider putting her on a long line, so that you could pull her back when she got too wired up to think about anything but chasing the sheep. Young dogs need to learn they can control the sheep without chasing; the long line helps you reinforce what you want her do do by preventing her from getting too close.

It wasn't something that crossed my mind, in retrospect it seems like an ideal solution. Once she's fit again I shall certainly remember it is a sensible option

Nice video, I will be looking forward to seeing how you get on. I have been learning how to train sheepdogs for a little over two years now and it is fascinating!!
Menna looks like a nice easy dog so it will be interesting to see how she progresses!
    Regards.
