This is a wonderful performance, broadcast live, late at night - not "as live" but live live - he played it, people watched it. Just a guy singing his song, alone, late at night...magical.
I heard this song when I was really young (4or 5, now 33). I heard it for the first time a year ago and almost had to stop the car in awe. Flawless indeed! :)
One of his most awe inspiring and powerful performances, and it's just him and his piano. It's nice to hear people so talented and music is one of our greatest achievements.
This song makes me cry sometimes. It reminds me of my best friend, we grew up together. She and I can go years without seeing eachother and still talk like time never passed between the last time we saw one another. This song makes me think of her because her nickname was Tiny Dancer, and she loved to dance. So when I hear this, I see my life long friend dancing around in my mind. Love you Heather!
ᗩᗰIᖇᗩ Eᒪ-ᖴOᕼᗩIᒪ Elton John and Bernie Taupin are such an incredible song writing team! I've worn out so many vinyl records of his while growing up! Every song on those early EJ albums are life enriching masterpieces!
The master at work. He was such a skilled artist. You watch him in his prime and you yearn for a simpler time where raw talent was so overt and obvious that it leaves the listener spellbound. I wish that Elton was still at this stage in his career..he was the complete package musically.
This song makes me think of my best friend growing up. Her nickname back then was Tiny Dancer. Whenever I hear this song I cry, because even though we're still really good friends, we're so far apart from eachother now, and I miss her. I dedicate this song to my friend Tiny Dancer. ^_^
I absolutely loved this movie, and I love this song, and most of Elton John's early stuff from the early to mid 70's! This man is a musical genius! I just try not to look at the gossip stuff on Tv or in the papers! I just love the music, that was absolutely wonderful! Peace, BobbyK
From some cover versions i've heard on youtube (that murder this great song) it becomes more obvious that Elton could not only compose brilliantly but also sing a lot better than he was given credit for. Superb new album The Union with Leon Russell.
such a beautiful songg... i think of a girl that i know with amazing beauty getting married to another better looking fellow whenever this song playsss....
I never said he wrote his songs (which he actually did write the music to all his songs) i said he is more talented in the sense of his singing and presence. He is just more entertaining than most musicians. So I did indeed give credit where it is due.
@clintbronson5 For sure. My favourite era for music and fashion. And some of the best movies ever made too. I'm getting Saturday Night Fever just thinking about it.
@jessereign HA ... That's exactly why I'm here as well. Pretty much the whole night was a huge reminder of how amazing Elton is compared to anyone else trying to sing his songs ...
wow, even live he sounds great. he's nothing like that artifical mainstream "artist" shit we go today. he sounds exactly in the studio version. i wish i was good of a singer as him.
@1234567jelly Could not agree more!! I've ALWAYS said old Elton John goes best on a hot summer night with the windows down!! This one, 'someone saved my life tonight' !!! I can't believe someone else said that!
This was back when musicians had talent and COULD sing a song flawlessly in one take. Plus, Elton was playing AND singing!

i would cry if i ever saw elton john live
guy doesn't miss a note and the vocals are the closest thing to perfection.
I'm more into Hard Rock/Blues Rock, but he has such a sensibility, I can't help but love this song.
How could anyone dislike Elton? He's pure genius.
he's one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time !! I LOVE this song
EJ perfoming alone without any other musicians or studio double tracking and it is friggin amazing!
An omission of guitar in the hook brings the majesty of Elton's piano.
He is simply in a class of his own when it comes to pure talent-singing and playing the piano. One of the best ever.
listening to this era of music always makes me sad realizing a great generation of music i missed
In a century Elton will be thought of in the same light as Beethoven, Mozart and various other iconic pianists.
Elton John at the height of his powers, man was his voice great in the early 70's
A very talented man just coming into his prime...what a journey he has before him
It still takes my breath away when I hear him sing it now, 36 years later!
Elton in his prime... what else can I say.. you are wonderful Elton, always are - always will be! HIT IT ELTON!
The master at work. He was such a skilled artist. You watch him in his prime and you yearn for a simpler time where raw talent was so overt and obvious that it leaves the listener spellbound. I wish that Elton was still at this stage in his career..he was the complete package musically.
Truly truly astonishing. Only get better when compared to what is made today. Thank you so much Elton!

The Old Grey Whistle Test was a TV show in England. I saw Elton perform on his tour that same year in Honolulu. He was a peerless performer even then.
