It is kind of sad to see people complaining about the TGP of this G15... But to me this was the perfect laptop for my case; something that can play games at demanding settings but it is still portable and has great battery. I was using a 2020 Blade 15 Base 2070 and thought that machine was great, but the battery of 4-5 hours killed it for me. Then finding this G15 at bestbuy for $1630 open box and updating all drivers to fix thermals and speakers issues made it the best laptop I could find for that price. People need to understand that some laptops are made with a target audience in mind, those of us who are willing to sacrifice some performance for a machine that can be taken on the go.
Core issue isn't low the TGP, but that it drives up the prices of regular TGP and Max-P GPU laptops, because manufacturers can charge you more due to having to clarify the wattage variety, and thus creating this perception of premium on higher wattage. That's why some people are upset how ASUS knowingly changed things. Prior to this year for instance, a same laptop used a standard 100W 2070 Max-P and upgrade would mean 80W 2080 Max-Q. Now you get the same 80W 3060 Max-Q, 80W 3070 Max-Q and a 80W 3080 Max-Q in an identical chassis, when they could've easily used a 115W 3060 and a 95W 3070 and lowered the price per performance. Essentially you're paying more for less with ASUS this year, because all their "budget" options are low-watt Max-Q GPUs, and "premium" with full TGP Max-P are paired with already more higher quality hardware and design. Normally with Gaming/Workstation laptops, the difference in price for same GPUs came from variation in hardware such as Build Quality, Battery, Display, Speakers, etc, not ambiguous differences within the same GPU that consumers can't really compare before purchase without researching reviews.

Ive bought/returned 5 laptops within the past month. Im very picky when im investing money into an item that I want to have value, portable, upgradeable, and to last a few years of use. Alot of these laptops look very well on paper but when it comes to standard use, unless your doing full research on quality control issues along with specs, you could still be taking a shot in the dark buying some of the available options. I had the g14 which i wanted to love, but the issues with faulty battery life, slow response time, and thermals was enough for me to return it to best buy. It sucks to see that this years version is suffering from more issues. any particular model you recommend at the moment Jarrod? i know its still early..
Hello Jarrod I have a question about laptop power delivery via usb type c. My question is what can you do and what can you not do with like 100W for example on my blade 15 advanced 2021. Would I be able to do something like video editing on 100 watts of power from a type c PD. Thanks

Another detail that I missed when I bought my Lenovo Ideapad laptop, only realized it after a couple months already using it: some manufacturers are shipping laptops with chargers that lack that ferrite magnetic-filter to help filter out interference from the sound card (specially the microphone) So many details to look for these days that it's impossible not to miss something. I don't like this at all.
I would not mind RAM soldered to the board at all, if it was DDR4 at least. But that's another thing that I've only found out about once I already had the laptop for a few weeks: my RAM stick says it's SODIMM at 1200 MHz (is there any way to verify that? or is that the minimum/idle speed?) Far below from the 2400+ MHz that I was expecting by buying a piece of equipment in 2020.
These manufacturers are cheapening out and "cutting costs" with the most useless of things. Don't come here telling me that they need to "cut costs" when these products are selling more than they ever did in history. No way. Precision touchpad feels acceptable at first, but try anytime selecting text with it holding the button down. Good luck.
so does it run at 165hrz at all times or is it like the razor blade 15 advanced where it runs at 60hrz when not playing a game. also is there no way at all to use the gpu instead of optimus or is optimus the only option.
Hey man like your videos just letting you know I got a G15 last week from BestBuy with the RTX3070. After I did all the windows updates/bios updates it would get stuck on a black screen and the activity light would also stay on. The only way to fix this was removing the battery (what a pain) I tried trouble shooting it but no fix. After taking it back to bestbuy the geek squad guy told me it would take a month to fix. So I had to return it and now I’m waiting for it to come back in stock. ):
I got mine last week, then had to return it to best buy Because it had unbearable coilwhine. I got another one 2 days ago and that one doesn't have the coil whine but it feels like it's a used one rather than brand new because the left side of the mouse pad is leaning in like it was used alot and the back chassis creaks to the left side. I don't know what to do at this point, wether return it and roll the dice on another one or just keep this.
A lot of the issues you have noticed from the speakers and everything else have been fixed in the new bios update and the Asus updates two days ago. You should do the updates and then do the review again.
I can't, the laptop was returned to ASUS. I've been following people on the G15 reddit and it seems that not everyone has found software fixes to work.

Hey jarrod! I’ve purchased a zephyrus g15 5900hs and a 3070 and ran some stress testing. The cpu boosts only up to 4.2ghz and it’s supposed to boost up to 4.5-4.6ghz. Do you know why it’s boosting a bit low?

Manufacturers are flooding the market with these cheap ass low quality pieces of plastic, further reinforcing my point that companies are not really desperate to "cut costs", they are just doing this because people let them get away with it. What we really want as consumers is ONE MAINLINE Laptop model that has all the features we need, sturdy in quality, USB's on both sides (basically every laptop 10 years ago)

Hello Jarrod, can you recommend the Laptop for Gaming, Editing Video and Streaming. I kinda want to start my own gaming channel but i want to do it in a laptop. It,s because i have job that make me go to other place every time so i cant settle down to use PC.
It's speed and versatility. You can have an external SSD run as fast as an internal M.2 or hook up a desktop GPU to your laptop or even daisy chain them together. Thunderbolt is faster as well for things like audio interfaces so recording audio with the lowest latency possible. Basically thunderbolt is a PCIe x4 Gen3 slot on a cable. That runs 40 gigabit per second. Also lets say you have a soldered on drive in your laptop and it dies you could boot from an external Thunderbolt SSD an it would be the same speed as the internal drive that died. Thunderbolt is great if you need the expandability and speed you get from PCIe slots in a desktop but you are stuck using a laptop.
What do you think about the lasting of the white color? Will it get grimy? Is it safe to go for the gray one? I am asking this because I really prefer the white version. It is so beautiful. But I heard that white laptops are getting yellow-ish in time and I want to use this laptop for some years to come so I want to be sure about this. :D
Hey Great videos, super helpful. I got lucky and picked one of these up on BB, but I do have one (literally only one) fatal issue with it that I'd like to share... maybe important to you or some viewers. Hooking up a Valve Index via the USB 3.2/Displayport connection does NOT fully work. Even though the connection bypasses the IGP, I am losing consistent frames and constant stuttering makes this computer a deal-breaker at this point. Ive contacted ASUS/Valve, for possible fixes and have gotten nowhere. could be a simple Nvidia/USB driver issue because the port has the horsepower obviously. The cable matters USB/Displayport connector works fine on my desktop coming out of an Nvidia 2080ti, so that's not the issue either, and yes all of the ASUS Aura lighting effects and any other BS background processes were stopped/uninstalled. SO although I LOVE this laptop, and hate to even write this, I am returning it. I have no choice because I do a lot of VR. Does anyone have the same issue? or a fix? Thanks for reading the comment :)

I have an issue, the G15 colors the screen of a strange green tint, everytime I go fullscreen with certain apps/softwares, for example: -in Teams, in a meeting, I go full screen and it goes green as soon as I move the mouse cursor. (if I don't move, it stays in the ArmouryCrate setting I chose, for example I use the "Default" setting) -in game, while playing for example Pillars of Eternity (but is the same with games in general), same thing happen. Actually, without moving the mouse cursor, even. In both cases, if I press fn+V to go through the different settings, and get back to Default, the screen temporarily shows the "Default" colors setting, but in half a second it goes back to the green tint. People say to uninstall Armoury Crate, but I tried, and I'm left with the green tint (and without the possibility at that point to scroll back to Default or anything bcs of course those settings are deleted as well..) What to do? Thanks!!

What you said about ram is just wrong. There are no stablity issues installing larger mismatched sticks, the difference would be that you can only ever achieve dual channel memory speeds for the first 16gb in this case, as it pulls 8gb from soldered snd 8 from installed. After this it will tun in single channel mode which may have slighrly worse perfotmance
Hey Jarrod, Just Josh says that his G15 screen looks dull and dark? I wonder if you could comment how you feel about yours compared to other laptops, thanks
Does anyone else consider the lighting on-a keyboard not being useful in a lit room, not a problem? Call me wild but the point of the light is for when the rooms dark
Well, first there's the aesthetic aspect, but more importantly, the white lighting on white keys is problematic as it hinders your ability to see the keys. In a well lit environment, you'll see the keys better if you turn off the lighting, whereas in most laptops, you can see the keys perfecty regardless of whether backlight is on or off.

Nothing yet, I like the Eluktronics Mech-15 G3 so far probably most, but I want to see how the new Lenovo ones go.
Jarrod again winning the Tech RUclipsr T-shirt game.
Zephyrus g14 and g15 have heat issues. Does g16 or m16 have this problem too?
Hello Jarrod I have a question about laptop power delivery via usb type c. My question is what can you do and what can you not do with like 100W for example on my blade 15 advanced 2021. Would I be able to do something like video editing on 100 watts of power from a type c PD. Thanks
U can use the Dolby software to remove the cracks .. just adjust to your style. I setup a custom EQ curve and all the cracks where gone.
Thanks for the good informative review. Question, when playing games are you saying it would be better to use the type c port and not hdmi?
Correct, it will perform better for the reasons covered here: ruclips.net/video/U1-S0VL5Duk/видео.html
hey brother cai i consider this laptop now ?
or shall i wait for m16 or new upcoming macbooks 14/16inches
the use is ms office, trading, casual gaming.
i need fast laptop
need it urgently

Good luck.
This is great and all, but I believe most people are looking at buying the 3060 variant. Could you please consider doing a review of it?
Would love to know how this G15 with RTX 3060 compares to the 3070 or 3080. For $1500 on bestbuy it seems like a no brainer.
Me too I wish I got sent more normal configurations but I can only work with what I'm loaned unfortunately :(
@@JarrodsLaptops will you be able to review the 3060 when its available
The fans blowing at the screen, is it gonna be an issue in the long run?
so does it run at 165hrz at all times or is it like the razor blade 15 advanced where it runs at 60hrz when not playing a game. also is there no way at all to use the gpu instead of optimus or is optimus the only option.
@@JarrodsLaptops The new software fixes just came directly from Asus. Through the update utility on the laptop. Speaker problem is fixed and all the other issues are fixed
+1 for the Amon Amarth shirt
I don't understand the Ram issue. Are you saying I need to buy extra ram to make this laptop perform as intended? That just sounds ridiculous. And how does a consumer know what ram to buy?
Hey jarrod! I’ve purchased a zephyrus g15 5900hs and a 3070 and ran some stress testing. The cpu boosts only up to 4.2ghz and it’s supposed to boost up to 4.5-4.6ghz. Do you know why it’s boosting a bit low?
I wish best buy got the grey version of the g14. Honestly in a thin & light, I'm fine with 1080p with the 3060, really not a fan of the white color though.
Hey uh I know this is a random and dumb stupid question but can you buy gaming laptop
this micro center
G14 has 3060 rtx 60 w. G15 has 80 watt
Hi, in general, do you recommend the RTX 3080 model for purchase?
I think he said the 3060 or 70 would be a better choice.
Will you be reviewing the Lenovo Legion 5 pro?
is it possible to connect the G15 to a gsync monitor. And have full gsync functionality? Also, will I get the extra frame rates on the extrnal monitor?
Hi jarrod! I have problems with my new purchase g15 laptop. I cannot see my mux switch in armory crate and aslo i cant open the amd adrenaline app. I hope you can help me with this? Thank you
Manufacturers are flooding the market with these cheap ass low quality pieces of plastic, further reinforcing my point that companies are not really desperate to "cut costs", they are just doing this because people let them get away with it. What we really want as consumers is ONE MAINLINE Laptop model that has all the features we need, sturdy in quality, USB's on both sides (basically every laptop 10 years ago)
elllo i have the same laptop and i m facing the issue of overheating i got my laptop by only a month and in warranty i got motherboard replaced but still it continues to heat . So in 10 min if it is going 96 degree wat should i do
Men! I check the new image on the channel and it looks awesome!!!!
What do you think of the g15 with the RTX 3060? Compared with the omen 15 3060 it has a 600usd difference. May I have your opinion? Thanks, Jarod
Hello Jarrod, can you recommend the Laptop for Gaming, Editing Video and Streaming.
I kinda want to start my own gaming channel but i want to do it in a laptop.
It,s because i have job that make me go to other place every time so i cant settle down to use PC.
Hey jerrod my G15 wont detect my gpu I try updating drivers plus mux switch but it all suddenly stop detects almost every time I start up the pc
Who should I consider lenevo legion 5 pro or Asus zephyrus g15?
What's the big deal with thunderbolt? Asking for a noob.
@@joesalyersthanks man, i learned something new

What do you think about the lasting of the white color? Will it get grimy? Is it safe to go for the gray one? I am asking this because I really prefer the white version. It is so beautiful. But I heard that white laptops are getting yellow-ish in time and I want to use this laptop for some years to come so I want to be sure about this. :D
Should I buy this for my Studio for Recording and music production work ?
Damn Asus. Was it that hard to add a cheap 720p webcam
Probably to avoid direct competition with their own "zenbook" and "expertbook" series ? Just saying.
I honestly like the lacking webcam. Covering one just looks bad, so now the laptop won't lose any stylishness...
Does anyone know whether GA503QM-HQ173TS has 2 speakers or 6 speakers? And does anyone know in which region is this model is sold?
Does anyone have the same issue? or a fix? Thanks for reading the comment :)
what did you get instead of this?
Does anyone know if an 3060 variation will be available? I see it on Canadian Best Buy but don’t see stock or reviews :/
Any updates? I might consider getting the 3060 g15 but not sure yet.
1:11 While I'm not a huge RGB fan, I really like those RGB HDMI cables. I absolutely _hate_ the price though.
Can you recommend a laptop for game development, 3d design
Did they finally fix the damn fan issue on the bottom or does this one have pieces of paper choking the fans on the bottom too?
Hi,
How does ASUS G15 (GA503QM-HQ148TS) fare against ASUS TUF A15 (FA566QM-HN087TS).
I'm struggling with the decision because specs wise, they seem similar where A15 seems to come out on top in Processor as it's a H version whereas the screen, sound, touch pad seem to be better with G15. A15 is cheaper than G15 which is my main point for confusion.
Can anyone please help?
How is the spacebar key when pressed bottom left/right does it register at all? My one doesnt register sometimes.
so far... no issues. had this unit for like.. almost 2 years now. yes! the speakers are great! specially for music. never heard that pop... lol always clear and nice. and loud! I was like what f???? so good
I just got this laptop and I'm trying to use my Oculus Rift CV1 and it says my laptop does not meet minimum qualifications. I have no idea if the laptop is running on the 3070 or is it using AMDs integrated graphics. The headset display doesn't seem to want to turn on but some games have sound. The laptop ran really warm and then it froze at one point. How do I make sure I have the laptop running on the RTX 3070?
Can I use an adapter for thunderbolt and use my 3080?

PROBLEMS HELP!
Ok, I bought the Zephyrus G15 grey model Ryzen 5900hs 3700.
It's my 4/5th week in and when I want to play Apex Legends or Battlefield 1, remember BF1 is an older game. I get booted out, I turned everything on low as well and after sometime and get booted to the desktop. An error occurs called "DirectX Function hr1 failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED.
It says the cause is that the graphic card was physically removed or there is an new update. Nothing was removed and everything was up to date. It says also another cause can be the graphic card is crashing, but how!!
Please HELP, what should I do about. The laptop is brand new.
Im not a heavy user in gaming, I hardly even game, so will this be worth it just for work purposes ? I understand i wont be using to its max purpose, but without the gaming part will be great to work with in terms of hang etc lag ???
Should be overkill for that sort of thing
What do you think of m16 i7 11800h vs g15 ryzen 9 5900hs ?
Does it only have white backlit??
I have an issue, the G15 colors the screen of a strange green tint, everytime I go fullscreen with certain apps/softwares, for example:
-in Teams, in a meeting, I go full screen and it goes green as soon as I move the mouse cursor. (if I don't move, it stays in the ArmouryCrate setting I chose, for example I use the "Default" setting)
-in game, while playing for example Pillars of Eternity (but is the same with games in general), same thing happen. Actually, without moving the mouse cursor, even.
In both cases, if I press fn+V to go through the different settings, and get back to Default, the screen temporarily shows the "Default" colors setting, but in half a second it goes back to the green tint.
People say to uninstall Armoury Crate, but I tried, and I'm left with the green tint (and without the possibility at that point to scroll back to Default or anything bcs of course those settings are deleted as well..)
What to do? Thanks!!
Should I go for Asus zephryus g15 or MSI GP66/65 leopard? Considering the fact that they are similarly priced here in India!
What would be the best way to dock this easily to external monitors? As I just noticed it doesn't come with a Thunderbolt 3 connector. Thanks in advance.
When will these be sold in Australia?
i have just bought one and it is amazing and i find it better than the strix (in my case)
to anybody going to buy it make sure that the wifi card is the intel because i had an issue with the mediatek wifi card on my previous strix advantage edition
If i may ask. Is the keyboard deck plastic or metal?
When are we gonna see your review of the new 2021 tuf a15??
Your audio is hard to listen on my speakers. I have a 2.1 Speaker set up and the bass is really distracting.
help please? i’ve had a G15 since 2019 and randomly without warning it seems my fan has 💩 the bed… when i entered UEFI/BIOS my cpu temp started at 40°c and raised to 73°c within minutes (i was not gaming or previously gaming) and my cpu fan speed will not exceed around 774rpm…?! does this mean my fan is faulty and i need replacement? please help thank you so much!!
(i have a 2019 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 GA502DU)
problem literally occurred overnight… not sure what happened but besides the overheating and low fan speed, the laptop still runs beautifully, no lag or slow loading speeds anywhere?
(i haven’t spent more than 10mins in a game due to overheating but within those 10mins the game ran fast and normally) i never once had a problem with this laptop until now, and that low rpm is scary
At last, my wish is fulfilled 😅😅
What you said about ram is just wrong. There are no stablity issues installing larger mismatched sticks, the difference would be that you can only ever achieve dual channel memory speeds for the first 16gb in this case, as it pulls 8gb from soldered snd 8 from installed. After this it will tun in single channel mode which may have slighrly worse perfotmance
I can't get mine to work with my index. Does the type-c to display port work?
Speakers better than Macbook pro 16?
If not this one which one you'll choose with AMD cpu?
Diminishing returns.
Hey Jarrod, Just Josh says that his G15 screen looks dull and dark? I wonder if you could comment how you feel about yours compared to other laptops, thanks
He and Laptop Mag probably got lemon screens
Does anyone else consider the lighting on-a keyboard not being useful in a lit room, not a problem? Call me wild but the point of the light is for when the rooms dark
Well, first there's the aesthetic aspect, but more importantly, the white lighting on white keys is problematic as it hinders your ability to see the keys. In a well lit environment, you'll see the keys better if you turn off the lighting, whereas in most laptops, you can see the keys perfecty regardless of whether backlight is on or off.
@@Soul_Younes I just don’t get needing to light up a keyboard when the room is lit. If it was rgb that would make a bit more sense.
It would be nice to start with prices before videos.
which laptop has better build quality g15 2021 or tuf f15 2021 ?
I would love to buy the white model g15 but it's only available with the highest end model, and every other version with a rtx 3070 and below will be grey/black. very sad :(
Quick question, does this laptop come with both radeon lite and nvidia control panel, if it does not have the radeon lite how is freesync working
If I use a dongle plugged into the usb on the laptop that has hdmi and use that hdmi port to plug into an external monitor, would that bypass optimus? My monitor only has hdmi.
any news if they improved things with TUF 15? On one of asus listings the screens were still awful in terms of color coverages.
I haven't heard anything yet.
does the keyboard color change???? if yes, then how to change it???
Acer nitro 5 i7 12800h and rtx3060 vs lenovo legion 5 ryzen 7 5800h and rtx3060 vs Asus rog zyprus G15 ryzen 9 5900hs and rtx3060 vs Msi katana gf66 i7 12800h and rtx3060. Which one of this should i buy ?
i like it but i don't like some choise like the webcam end the estetic, the 3080 model is just a waste of money....
