I remember wondering how and whether Andrew was going to finish off the inside of the container castle. It's a cool build, for sure - and I love the all the angles, the outdoor space, those huge windows... but I couldn't imagine how he would finish it off. He doesn't strike me as the interior decorator type... or even as a finish carpenter, you know? So I'm glad you guys are there for him. I hope he films the spray foaming of this thing... and then the rest of the work to finish off the inside. Thanks for sharing this with us.

As always Dan awesome job. Dan and Sheryl, the professionalism you both have with all this, and your carpentery skills, in getting all this the way you want it to look is amazing, but not surprizing , considering your talent. Andrew went from just having a small bedroom heated to now his entire castle heated:-). Wondering how he will have all this heated. Is he thinking of going off grid like his cousin Jesse and you both?? Again, Really enjoyed this video. Appreicated.

I had to chuckle. Although I can see by the lack of slab and construction in front of the separate shop and storage area that this is an older film, I have to recall watching one of Andrew's early videos just after building the castle stating that he didn't need heat in it! I wondered how long that was going to sail. New York isn't Alaska but it still gets damn uncomfortable to always be cold or wrapped in layers of clothing. I figured the first time he had a woman live over that it would rapidly change. It has lasted quite a while although he seems to have moved up to the mountain top property in winter an awful lot. Nothing colder than a steel building. Then no real heat source and no insulation, well it would get old.

  • @mackfisher4487

Andrew should add more receptacles and switches before he closes the wall cavities.
Maybe using NAC code as a guideline, the building itself is fireproof less the contents.
Run low voltage wire for LED strip light for outside as well as inside computer controlled would be neat.

Sorry you don’t have experience with metal studs, there are many tricks that would make that job go faster. Also we normally don’t use a saw to cut individual studs only a bundle that are same size. We just score with a utility knife and a speed square and snip up to the score on each side, couple of bends and it breaks right off. Plus your ears will thank you.

Need new concrete steps, no hesitation. That mind set is missing today.

What he just studts did you use ? I hope a minim from of 20 gauge. Otherwise was when you go to screw your dura. The screws will strip out... Also might want to think about put in bridging in between the studs. It helps stiffen things up... Not sure if relying an insulation to make the walls more Rigid is the way to go... I would definite. Will you do box headers above the doors? And windows, or you may experience sagging.... Hopefully it's helpful not trying to be critical

Boy, I can see why a guy might prefer working with wood? At least then it's only your tools and the chickens making noises off! Knee pads, a hard hat and some sort of ear protection would seem in order as that tower is only going to be noisier to work in?
Andrew C having to face up to the fact that steel isn't a great insulator when it comes to keeping the cold out. And presumably it's going to be even colder at the top of the mountain in his new castle. I loved the original steel structure going up, and I guess the insulation does at least make the castle walls more realistically thick. Should help keep the cannon balls out better!

I remember watching Andrew build these walls and roof all in steel and glass, and I wondered how he was going to insulate it, because obviously it will be very cold in the winter. I know he has said he don't care about heating the garage because he gets used to it being cold. I guess in a garage, when you're working, you will keep warm but in a house you need insulation and heating to be comfortable. So this is great to see!

    * Trying desperately to get the place warmer
    * Also: Installing metal framing for insulation
    Yeah, that's totally Andrew!
I was wondering for years why Andrew decided to leave the roof bare metal. There is a very subtle reason why mankind didn't settle for steel plates as "roofing"...
Sure enough, this hump of metal and concrete will outlast Andrew by several decades. But the extend will be determined by the condensation on these metal walls.

Some life changing advice for concrete drilling, instead of fighting with a regular drill that has a "hammer" mode, get an SDS drill. Drilling into concrete with an SDS is the only way to go, even for tapcons. I use a dewalt 12v SDS for smaller stuff and a 20v for up to about an inch.

One thing Andrew overlooked that is going to turn that house into a mold factory that he can't live in is exodermal factor . Once he installed the spray foam the house is going to sweat like a pig inside . He's going to need a air chandler that is designed for 10x's what would normaly needed he's going to need a dehumidifier for each room . IT then will take alot of electricity to run plus air purifucation the expence of filtros changed every week . This is going to make the efficiency upsidedown so far . He could heat and Cool 10 homes of the same size for the cost of this one .
