I normally read a classic children’s book if I’m feeling a bit anxious, I read Heidi recently and really enjoyed it. I’m currently reading St Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves and I’m loving it so far, her writing style is so interesting. I don’t really get tingles but I watch ASMR when I’m anxious or to help me fall asleep.

Hi Mercy! I'm glad you're back, and I hope all is well. 💜 Ah, I'm so glad you're enjoying the Nightrunner series! If you're looking for more like it, Flewelling has another series (The Tamir Triad) that's set a few centuries earlier in the same world. The first book in that is The Bone Doll's Twin.

Lovely to see you back and getting back in the swing. I wish I could get into epic fantasy as I do love the idea of getting so deep into a big epic series you just want to binge them all. Also slight upstaging from Albus early on 😂 I thought Heartberries was ok, I felt like it was a bit missold so I didn’t get quite what I was expecting which made me feel ‘hmmmm’ occasionally. If it had been sold as what it was I might have loved it more. I like a themed tale too. I must read Swamplandia! I might have to grab Florida off the shelves soon. I keep getting short story collections and then not reading them. Naughty me. Looking forward to more videos from you.

Got sucked into The Name of the Wind after a bit of a reading slump. Epic fantasy does the exact same thing for me! I read the first two books so fast and now since the third one isn’t out yet I’m reading them again. I haven’t enjoyed any books like I have these two in a few months so I think I’ll be sticking with the fantasy genre until I can build up a better reading routine again. My current level of binging is probably not sustainable.

I always find that reading Lucinda Riley calms me down. I highly recommend her The Seven Sister series. It contains far off locals such as Brazil in the first and Norway in the second, and each novel is divided into two separate stories, one that takes place in the past, (1920s) and one in the present. They’re really good books about self discovery, written beautifully, with a sprinkle of magic. I wouldn’t say it’s fantasy, but I would say it’s like Magical Realism. But all the same I feel like you would really like it.

I’m so sorry you’ve been having family issues. I’m glad you’ve been able to find something to lose yourself in. David Eddings is that fantasy author for me. I have pretty similar reading habits. I generally read 60% literary fiction and 40% non-fiction of all genres. But when I'm stressed or my MDD is particularly bad I start to lean toward fantasy. Unfortunately Hobb was the first fantasy author I read (as an adult at any rate) and I've been a bit spoiled by her as I can't find any fantasy author who compares. I'm currently reading through The Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman which is good fun. I'm also waiting for The Poppy War which I've only heard raves about and can't wait to get into.

Great to see you back! Love the gray theme you have going on, grey couch, grey cat, grey cardigan! I just started my first Robin Hobb but I decided to start with the Liveship Traders because it sounded like it was up my alley the most. When I'm down or weird I usually reach out for nature books, something like Walden, Mary Oliver, The Secret Life of Trees, learning about mushrooms, stuff like that. It gives me the illusion that I AM in nature or something, and it's very calming

    Happy to see you back!
I haven't seen Johnny's hand at first and it looked like Albus browses the web... My imagination run wild. =D
I'm really excited to hear that you like Nightrunner series, because it has been on my radar for quite some time. Hope to pick it up eventually. I'm in an interesting - try to be more death positive - mood now, inspired by Ask the Mortician, so I'm currently reading Caitlin's second book (quite liked her first) and have a list lined up for future. Also, it's a bit weird for me, but I've started to play Lara Croft game on my phone and now I want to read a book similar to Lara Croft movies... =D Same happened when I've watched Uncharted game play with my sister.
Also, want to read about some small town witches. Ah, the reading moods.
When I can't get into books I want to read I usually (unfortunately) don't read at all, or try to reread something, or read comics. As you probably heard from me, I'm a mood reader, so I can have dosens of audiobooks on my phone that I've wanted to listen to in past few days, but then like yesterday, I just started Unmentionable by Therese Oneille (it's a lady's guide for living in Victorian times) and I got hooked and now I am in a new mood and want to read absolutely difffent things. It can be a pain in the ass, but since I haven't become me yesterday, I have a lot of different books close by.
Hope to see you soon. Happy reading!

Oh I’m so pleased to see that you are enjoying the Nightrunner series. I completely agree about it being like Hobb, but not as good. That’s exactly what I thought when I read the first one. I’m currently on the sixth one and still really enjoying the series. There’s some things I don’t like about them. Like you said they’re a bit more plot heavy than I usually love. Also sometimes the dialogues a bit... cheesy. And the magic system is a little too incantation based for my taste. But I’m zipping through them and really loving them for the characters. And also, my sleep schedules a complete shitshow right now so they’re really nice easy reads for my sleep deprived brain.
She wrote another trilogy that’s set in the same world called The Tamar Triad and I have heard that it is more developed and sophisticated than the nightrunner books. So I’m going to read those next.
I hope everything is settling down and all is ok on the family front. Happy reading 😊😊😊
