So glad I just found your channel. I can’t wait to make this, your Finnish hole bread and cabbage rolls. I miss my grandma’s cooking. She made the best potato soup, fish stew and bread.
Nice! appreciate you calling it pullapitko first (not nisua) I've seen it filled with vanilla cream and prune filling for Christmas -like in joulutorttu. Going to try that cardamom filling next time.
Nisua especially sounds weird to Finns, because it's an inflected case of "nisu", ie "Some nisu". So it's like saying "Here's some chicken soup recipe." in English. Either way both of those words are unknown to Finns from Finland!
If you had used your arm muscles to mix the dough instead of an electric mixer, your arms would look like Popeye's arms. I enjoyed watching you make the "braided long bun" bread. If you have neighbors and they smelled that bread baking, they would all want to come over and visit and they probably would not want to leave because the food is so good.
I really enjoyed that, thank you. Really good quality instructions too especially for me who doesn't have any Finnish blood in me so i don't know the recipe
It could be! It's usually not limited to holidays in Finland, but especially if it's not readily available I think it would fit the Christmas table very nicely.
I am making it now with a mixer. I am afraid to “mix” it too much before adding the dough hook. I think my dough was too sticky. Maybe I did not knead it enough with hook. How long did it take to mix in butter and knead?
The strong mixing before adding the rest of the flour and the butter helps to create the strong airy texture that's needed because there's so much butter in the dough. But I would say a minute or two is plenty at this point, there's not a whole lot of flour yet. Once you have the dough hook in, add almost all of the flour (maybe like 90%) and then add the butter. Leaving a little flour at the end also helps you in case your dough is too dry so you can omit it. If it's too wet, just add flour, just a little bit at a time. When all the ingredients are in, keep mixing until it comes free of the bowl.
That is an excellent question! I've been meaning to try it. I think you can, but I also think the texture may come out a little denser than with regular yeast. You can also let the dough proof longer in a fridge even you use yeast to get the same kind of results.
I think egg has a purpose in the recipe. Since the dough has so much fat, it works as an emulsifier in it, binding the fat with the other liquids. It also adds elasticity in the dough, which then helps when shaping it. Not to say you couldn't omit it if you want to go vegan, or any other reason, but it does has a function and the results would be different.
Love the new thumbnails!
Thank you!
Please never stop sharing your passion for Finnish foods. I love your channel.
Thank you! And it wouldn't be anything without people like you watching.
I really like the braid pattern of it. It looks really cool.
Yeah it really isn't pitko without the braiding.
Love it.
Yay I was really looking forward to seeing pulla. I found a place I can get cardamom so I've been excited to get a recipe
Ok good! Did you find ground, seeds or whole pods?
Whole pods so I don't know how that will vary in amount to use? I like some crunch though
@@wielderofspoons It's difficult to say, it varies between batches too. Go ahead and try some.
@@finnishyourplate Kiitos :)

Kiitos! Mä olen aivan samaa mieltä, että kyllä suomalaisessa ruuassa olisi vientiä. Ei sitä pidä suotta hävetä.

My grandmother used to do this all manually, several times a month! You know what they say... Bread makin' ain't easy.

So sad, I only know it as "Nisu"! ❤😂🎉
As long as it tastes good!
Kyllä se täällä Tornionlaaksossa on nisu😊
Oho, ei se kovin yleistä ole! Suomen puolella kuitenkin?

Hey I just added the ingredients to the description.

Would you have it with anything on top once sliced?
Personally, no, but I've seen people put butter or even jam on top. I think it has enough butter as it is to give my cardiologist a heart attack.
I use my motor too.

Maybe, maybe not. It's not a common word in Finland, outside of some specific areas.
Pulla doesn't need an egg. It is just a habit of some people 😃
