Great video 👍. My reverb tip is to pull down the upper mids/lower highs to sculpt the reverb around the presence frequencies of the lead instruments/vocals to preserve clarity.

Not to be that guy but In the Air Tonight is the track where they invented gated reverb… it was a studio accident; they used the actual talkback noise gate from an SSL mixing desk to gate actual room reverb from room mics. Non-lin is a wonderful preset created to mimic that on the beautiful AMS RMX16, and it became its own classic synthetic 80s sound.
Not tryina be a pedant; just mentioning it because it’s a fun story for history nerds!
@@sub-jec-tiv Absolutely spot on. I actually had the joy of meeting the engineer who made that happy accident at a convention in London. I would happily have gone into it on the video but I’ve been trying to keep my videos shorter. SSL do a plugin now that replicates the listen mic compressor. It’s decent on drums.

I bought into the MPC platform because I am a non-musician who has music in his head and would just like to have a bit of fun trying to get it out. It is the *best* platform for this particular scenario, I believe. But, the ease and speed of using these machines can make people like myself never take the time we should to explore (much less to understand) all of these options that are inside of them. I have found your channel and have been binge'ing your videos in my downtime. I get to see/hear and even to understand more of the options available to me, thanks to you. This coupled with the wisdom of your experience sprinkled throughout makes me feel almost like I am in a very basic apprenticeship with ya.
These videos are produced very well and deserve a little payback. I see you have a PayPal link, and I totally get that, because Google wants to keep their share. But, you might still consider adding the super-thanks to your videos, since some of us prefer the slight level of anonymity that can afford us.

Ah! dry delay works with reversed reverb, to get a swelling reverb that suddenly ends and continues as the dry sound. perfect for Kicks.
set the dry delay as long as the reverb time. finally width on zero

Fantastic bro. Reverbs are fairly straightforward but there is still a lot to learn here. The one area of the MPC that's been slightly underwhelming for me is the built in reverbs. Thanks for this video.

@@Reggi_Sample Some decent plates would be good. The only issue I could foresee is that decent reverb plate plugins tend to use a lot of CPU. Something the MPC lacks in. Valhalla make good plate plugins with low CPU, so it’s possible I guess.

I got a question please: let's say you are using Air Reverb EQ, are you only changing EQ of the reverb effect or the original signal too?

It entirely depends on how you’re using the reverb. If you’re using the effect as an insert on your track then any changes you make in the EQ on the reverb will affect the whole signal. But if you’re using the reverb as a send effect on a sub mix then it will only affect the reverb if that makes sense.

thank you , like an usual your video are amazing , but I have 2 questions for you. during 3 years with my mpc live 2 in standalone only ,I Used the master output 1,2 like everyone but all my song is weak on the speakers . accidently I plugged the wire in output 3,4 , and for the first time I heard a perfect song loud and clear . My question are 1- do you put something behind the master output ? 2- how can I get the same quality that the output 3,4 withe the master output 1,2 ? I hope my explanation was clear for you !!! Hey buddy. Yes I understand you totally. It’s a good question. 1 and are considered the master out and are controlled by the master volume. 3 to 6 are at full volume (0db) without any trim. That is why they sound louder.

Aww come on man. Of course you can turn out pro level tracks. You just need to know which buttons to press lol. Thanks for watching. Truth be told, after nearly 40 years of working in studios I actually love the limitations a machine like the MPC presents me with.
@@TheCratesMotel All good. But it's the sequencer of this machine which lets you in despair. No way you could do a professional song with that. At least when the vocals come into play you must turn to a DAW. And then the question comes to your mind why you didn't switch from the beginning.
@@bakerman3039 It’s definitely possible, it just takes more workarounds. But for me, I like a hybrid workflow. Using it in conjunction with my DAW. The best of both worlds. Nowadays there’s no need to just use one workflow. But i have released tracks that have been 100% completed on my MPC (except for mastering obviously).
I don’t love the reverbs in the mpc and would be thrilled with just one nice plate reverb. The instrument plugins sometimes have nicer reverb than the purpose built reverb’s. Disappointing. Almost every one is too fizzy even if you put an eq before it on your reverb send.
Fair enough dude. I think they’re pretty decent, especially the Air Reverb. You can emulate some nice plates in there. The thing is, reverbs are inherently CPU intensive and obviously there’s not a lot to play with in an MPC. Try an EQ after the reverb rather than before. That way you’re EQing the tail after the fact rather than the source before. Thanks for watching.
