At 71 years old, I'm not supposed to lie here watching a video on RUclips with tears in my eyes. This was so exciting and nostalgic and couldn't happen to a nicer custodian of automotive history. Truly a "Bucket List" event for Jay. Thanks so much for sharing it with us all!
I´ll be out on the side of the road Thursday morning near my house just outside Rimini to cheer the cars & drivers through. A bonus this year is that the Mille Miglia passes through in the morning and then the Giro d´Italia cycle race sweeps by in the afternoon. Magnificent !
I love pushing cars to their limit. Taking turns as fast as possible. When you feel the tires losing their grip and you push just a little more. It's definitely addictive
I am so glad that Jay is doing something he loves and sharing it with car lovers like myself. These are great shows amazing old footage and racing history! Great to see Stirling Moss alive and well.
Blackson Michael youtube pays channel owners for views - not thumbs up and down. So youtube has a system that verifies number of views to prevent scammers from ripping off the youtube's ad revenues
Blackson Michael 301 is just the default views it goes to before it can work out the actual ammount. for a while they had it fixed it said 301+ views but for some reason it went back to 301 views rather than 301+
This is my second time watching this video and I never get tired of it. Luck Italians, all that beautiful machinery and wonderful sounds cruising through their country.
Chris Harris' video of his journey on the Mille Miglia was just as magical. There's something about this event that's just so special. That sequence from 16:40 onwards of Brundle in the D-Type is so unerringly beautiful.
Over the years I've watch many documentaries and videos on the Mille Miglia, but I have to say this is without doubt the best. Jay, from those of us who will never experience anything like this I'd just like to thank you because you have a gift, a way of bring the cars and the places to life.
How come all these old cars look so much better than their modern counterparts ???? It's like we've lost the ability to design beautiful cars. These cars are sexy !!!!!
RandomSTUFFzors Maybe, but I'm not too sure. AlfaRomeo can still design a nice car. Nothing like the old cars, but still a damned sight nicer than its modern contemporaries.
Jay, thank you so much for sharing such an AMAZING experience with us. What a dream come true it would be to take part in the Mille Miglia. The sights, sounds, smells and feelings of that journey must have been out of this world! Again, thank you sir.
Who could possibly dislike this video?! They had stifling moss talking about his beloved sport like a giddy kid on Christmas for christ's sake! What more could you want?
In '66 I got out of high school and during the summer found a 1954 XK120 in a used car lot for 1200 dollars. Got me hooked on cars as well. Low miles, white-red leather with steel wheels and rear fender skirts. Man said it was owned by Augie Papst. Original books and tool kit, terrible heater and had a plaque on the dash stating it to be a replica of the car that hit 137MPH in Belgium. All the canvas was original and it had that smell. I kept that and wound up with a few more...worked my butt off until I was drafted. College? Nope..cars. While I was gone my mother sold the works. I came home and my cars were gone. Never could replace any of them, life just took over. I'm 65 now and everytime I see one I almost cry.1200 dollars.
What an amazing adventure for ANYONE!! Great job Jay keeping the commentary real for us little guys! You are the best thing to happen to the car culture since Stirling Moss!
At 16:11 beauty unfolds. The score, Jays narration, the view from above as, white hair a blaze and nestled in his car while through sunlit vistas of history he motors down the road, is for me, beauty to behold. Loved it. Wonderful piece.
when you think about the period the mille miglia ran through (1927-1957) and the cars that these people drove... you can only say men were men. people were expected to die during every race and in every race there were fatalities. the roads were mostly dirt even in the 50's and a lot of the cars prior to the first world war had more than 400 hp. in the 30's gp cars had up to 600 hp. the drivers who drove this race were legends in their own right and it truly was a golden age of racing. in 1931 tazio nuvolari would win the mille miglia driving an alfa romeo 6c, coming from second place in pitch black darkness on dirt roads and no amenities to make driving easier at all (keep in mind he was also a tiny person and had to drift the cars around corners because he couldn't turn the steering wheel if he slowed down) he switches off his lights in the middle of the night to surprise the car in front, which also happens to be his team mate, using nothing but the one rear light on the other car as a guide. he catches him up, and in the last second completely baffles his opponent when he switches on his lights and takes the lead to win the race. if that isn't legendary, then i don't know what is...
My goodness! Could 27 people, (with badly broken thumbs), all have been drunk? Sad. I'm very grateful to have seen this, thank you for sharing this with us. Could there be a cooler rocker than Brian Johnson? I don't think so. 'Écurie Écosse' + AC/DC's last Scottish singer-for more than 30 years-totally awesome, (Bon was a Scottish lad, too)...+ a great narrative by Señor JāLenō. 🙏 Thanks!
October 2003 J. All I can say is you are the best of the best. What you have done for the hobby is beyond most people's comprehension. Kudos to you may you live long and prosper. God bless you and your lovely wife.
This show keeps getting better and better : Period footage, Stirling moss commentary, the most prestigious antique car event.. So well done. Thank you Mr Leno!
Thank you for posting this Jay. I wanted to burst out into tears of childlike excitement watching these beautiful cars being driven as they were designed to be driven. I have been a lifelong lover of driving. I love long distance drives and consider a 100 mile drive on a winter logging road good therapy. I have a Fusion Sport with all wheel drive and twin turbos, and a new Ranger 4wd. Watching this has made me wish for my 1971 VW Super Beetle Convertible to enter into this rally. I could spend a year in Italy and not get all of the things Italian I want to do done.
I use to work for Ian, both in Italy (Ghia) and in England. In fact when Ian left Ford in 1990 he asked me to drive him to Oxford where I literally dropped him at Tom Walkinshaw's door. That's when he started working with Aston Martin. Oddly I met Jay the next year - Janett Lee and I were the first auto industry people to get involved with Leno. Another odd thing, my little brother now owns the first C-type to run Mille Miglia.
I have been reading or watching things about this race most of my life. It is definitely on my bucket list but sadly after a bout with cancer and a heart attack I am limited to watching people like Jay Leno get to do it and while 10 years ago I could have easily done 15 hours behind the wheel It would be a bit of a stretch for me. For now, I will have to satisfy myself with runs up and down the California and Oregon coasts in my 1974 Alfa Romeo Spider. For me, Life doesn't get much better. Thanks for this one Jay!
Best episode of Jay's Garage by far!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved every minute. Great sounds, great pictures and great story telling. It doesn't happen so often that you can really tell that Jay was excited. So in some ways this episode was probably the most honest one.
Great video! Good to see Sir Stirling Craufurd Moss, OBE talking about his exploits in such a laid-back manner. His was an outstanding feat, one that can never be beaten. One of my childhood heroes, still with us. Sadly my other heroes perished, Jim Clark, Mike Hawthorn, Donald Campbell.
I guess you're enjoying your time off ! I am glad we can be a part of your great hobby. Thanks for all the effort. I've travelled to Italy and visited all the museums. But to see the the people there enjoying the Mille Miglia... that's something else!
The more of these video's I watch the more I like Jay, I'm so great full that Jay takes the time to make these video's for us. Thanks Jay, and all the guys involved.
Only just found this video but really enjoyed it. Some great clips of the original races and always wonderful to hear Sir Stirling. Jay as amiable as ever and this gives a glimpse of what it feels like to compete in the event. Let’s hope it continues for many years to come
R.I.P. Sir Stirling Moss (1929-2020) "He defined his era of racing as much as it defined him and that time was a very special and formative one. Moss is a name that is woven indelibly into the sport’s very fabric. We will not see his like again." (Mark Hughes wring in Motor Sport Magazine.
Wow....... This was absolutely beautiful. The cars, the country, the history, the camera work. Thanks for sharing Jay, I would never be able to go see anything like this. Just gorgeous .........
This is what makes life worth while and your children. Wonderful to see that Jay Leno drove the course in a $3M jag. I love Italy and just got a great idea for next summer. Not the race but to just drive the course, that way I can eat ... .
Leño loves cars so much he gets more cars to Love, more experiences, never ending expanding car love.... I really appreciate him for this, an example of how to enjoy your passion in life, and how loving your reality, your reality will love you back.
Driven through entire Tuscany last summer. Outstanding scenery, beautiful weather and fantastic roads. I highly recommend it to anyone - amazing experience.
What a tremendous experience and an outstanding, beautifully crafted "movie"! This is Discovery calibre media! It's just joyous to see Jay engaged in his great passion at this level and there is none more worthy than one of the all-time greatest guardians of automotive heritage! Thanks for sharing the trip!!!
Too many people think that cars are just transportation, an appliance. An automobile can be a work of art, a joy to drive, with no real destination other than to enjoy the countryside and the car. People like Jay and Magnus Walker understand this. I wish more people did.
Thanks Jay! It sure seems like you're finding your stride after leaving the Tonight Show. I love to see your irrepressible humor and love of cars combined.
While Jay was clearly referring to car racing on public roads, I would point out that The motorcycle Irish Road Racing Series, and the Isle of Man in particular,is still conducted on public roads and offers the greatest spectacle in racing to be seen anywhere.
The Romantism around vintage race cars reflects when life was simpler, and having such a race in a emotional/ passionate environment, makes this event so sweet to the heart of car enthusiasts. And Have I mentioned the scenery!
This is an absolutely thrilling and thoroughly enjoyable video to watch. Jay should at least win an Oscar - even if they don't win the race. I never comment on videos. But this was spectacular. Thanks so much for making this and sharing it with the world, Mr. Leno and crew.
Spent the weekend in Bologna specifically to see this event. Was incredible to see such great cars in such a beautiful setting. Got up at the crack of dawn to see the drivers depart on the final leg back to Brescia. Sadly no sign of Jay, he must have left veeery early! Great video, best I've seen.
Thanks Jay...that was just great. You are fast becoming a legend for your Garage series which will outlive and out shine your very successful comedy career. Respect.
Jay makes a lot of good videos, but here he flexed and made an honest-to-God documentary. A hidden gem of RUclips.
You have to admire the work the camera men went through to produce this. Hats off to you guys, that was amazing work.
I just wish this was a long hour and a half documentary. I'd watch all of it multiple times. Amazing stuff.
I remember Stirling Moss/Dennis Jenkinson winning the race in 1955. I still have DJ’s report on the race in Motor Sport magazine today.
I am so glad that Jay is doing something he loves and sharing it with car lovers like myself. These are great shows amazing old footage and racing history! Great to see Stirling Moss alive and well.
RIP Mr. Motor Racing
The videos you've been doing lately have been great. Thanks for taking us along for the ride Jay!
an oscar for the camera angles ,what a great video !
btw 301 watched this video but 321 likes? sounds like magic :)

This was one of the best Jay Leno's Garage episodes EVER!!! Loved the sights and the sounds
Brian Johnson has got to be the most down to earth superstar. Seems like a very kind hearted person.
Chris Harris' video of his journey on the Mille Miglia was just as magical. There's something about this event that's just so special.
That sequence from 16:40 onwards of Brundle in the D-Type is so unerringly beautiful.

Very nice report about the Mille Miglia! I drove my Ghia to follow the Mille. 2500 miles in 7 days… And every mile is worth it!
How come all these old cars look so much better than their modern counterparts ???? It's like we've lost the ability to design beautiful cars. These cars are sexy !!!!!
You can thank safety regulations for that.
RandomSTUFFzors Maybe, but I'm not too sure. AlfaRomeo can still design a nice car. Nothing like the old cars, but still a damned sight nicer than its modern contemporaries.
You are wrong. These cars look great for their time but modern cars look even better. Every age has its own greats.
Thats exactly what i think all the time when i see new supercars ! old etypes , old xk etc . Its all for safety i guess
Suraj John I think it's because they're all using the same bloody computer programme !!!!
I don't know of any videos that get as universally 'liked' as much as Jays!!
love that quote from Brian, "why do anything if it's not loads of fun? just not worth it!" great stuff
Wow... what a great film!
Thanks Jay!
Jay, thank you so much for sharing such an AMAZING experience with us. What a dream come true it would be to take part in the Mille Miglia. The sights, sounds, smells and feelings of that journey must have been out of this world! Again, thank you sir.
Jay truly inspires many people in the automotive world. I love him and he's a really humble person. Long live Jay.

What an amazing life Jay has had, truly one of my hero's...
This show keeps getting better and better : Period footage, Stirling moss commentary, the most prestigious antique car event.. So well done. Thank you Mr Leno!
These videos keep getting better. They should really be picked up by a tv channel. Thanks for making it!
Wow. To drive a 3 million dollar car, top down, in the rain. Nice to see these cars in the element they were designed for instead of museums.
Brian Johnson signing autographs at the starting line. Gotta love that guy.
Thank you for posting this Jay. I wanted to burst out into tears of childlike excitement watching these beautiful cars being driven as they were designed to be driven.

I don't know who Jay put on producing, editing, or directing this- but it is outstanding! Far above the usual quality of JLG. Enjoyed it immensely.
Without doubt the best Jay Leno motor journalism he has ever done! utterly FANTASTIC! well done Jay!

Words can not express my appreciation for this video except to say "Thank you". It was a real pleasure to be taken along on such a great journey.
Best episode of Jay's Garage by far!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved every minute. Great sounds, great pictures and great story telling.
It doesn't happen so often that you can really tell that Jay was excited. So in some ways this episode was probably the most honest one.
How wonderful that Jay brings us into the story as if we are in the vehicle. Thank you, Jay, from the bottom of our hearts!

The best thing to come from Jay Leno's retirement. More and better quality car videos.

Thanks for bring back the memories of me driving a 1957 VW in Germany in 64,65 and 66. It's top speed was 55 mph. Great video.
This is what makes life worth while and your children. Wonderful to see that Jay Leno drove the course in a $3M jag. I love Italy and just got a great idea for next summer. Not the race but to just drive the course, that way I can eat ... .
My favorite JLG video! Wonderful to see those beautiful cars, and hear what engines used to sound like. Thank you Jay!
What an adventure! What an experience! What a retirement! Congrats Jay!
Mr. Leno, thank you for sharing your machines, knowledge, and experiences with us. You are very generous and we immensely enjoy your videos.

the best Jay Leno's Garage ever!!! -an I've seen most of them!
While Jay was clearly referring to car racing on public roads, I would point out that The motorcycle Irish Road Racing Series, and the Isle of Man in particular,is still conducted on public roads and offers the greatest spectacle in racing to be seen anywhere.
Jay, thanks so much for sharing the Mille Miglia, theres only one person who loves Jags more than me...that would be you!
Easily the best video you and your crew have ever done, and that is really saying a lot.
I am from the province of Brescia, as kids we alway waited for the race to go and see the cars. It was always so exciting.
That was put together very well. Congrats and thanks Jay!
What a fantastic film.
Mr. Leno - brilliant! Thank you for all you do for motoring, BRAVO!
The sound of that old jag is amazing!
that is way all cars should sound, glad you included a lot real jag sounds,,,it is music to the ear.
"danger is addictive" sir Stirling Moss :D
Its a joy watching you and your friends drive around beautiful countryside.
What fun! Jay is living the American dream, driving a British car, in Italy. How cool is that.. Really liked the Sterling Moss clips as well.
Jay's stuff here just keeps getting better and better. NBC's loss is the auto enthusiast's gain. Bravo!

Really tangibly shared the experience. Among the finest, perhaps the finest, films about automobiles I've seen lately.
Without a doubt the best review I've seen on the Mille MIglia. Big thumbs up!
One of the best videos yet. Great Job!!! My 15 yr old son loves exotic classics and would have gone crazy seeing all those beautiful cars.
best Jay Leno video so far!!
Simply awesome!! Thanks for "taking" us along Jay!! Deeply jealous at the same time that you got to experience this for real!!
One of the best episodes so far in my book! Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.
