We're in Demarest, New Jersey, today, checking out a hit-by car. They caught it backing out of the garage. The bottom section is completely split apart. We put a level on the second section to see if it's straight, it looks good. If there was a bow to the second section and we put a new bottom section on then it could cause noises as well as damage the new section over time.
So it looks like we're just going to need to do the one section today. A little trick for this, first things first we lift the door about 6 inches off the ground. Then back wind the spring to get a little slack on the cables. Now we do not have to unwind the springs to swap the sections. We want vice grips on the cables to keep them from jumping off the drums and vice grips holding up the door under two of the rollers.
Now we can remove the damaged section and prepare the new section to be installed. Let's put it in. One thing to notice is we are using traditional hardware for the new section. The old sections are Amarr pinch-resistant. Amarr discontinued pinch-resistant, but the traditional hardware will allow you to sync up a new section without issues.
Once we have everything all back together we give it a try by hand. It rolls nice and smooth just like it should. Once I confirm by hand that everything is correct, I then connect the door to the garage door opener and try running the door with the opener. Everything is working perfectly hooked into the opener.
Now, the only thing is a piece of weather stripping got knocked down at the top. Tack that back up and we are back in business. So there we have it. A new section here in Demarest, New Jersey. Onto the next one.
