My dad was obsessed with steam trains and when he retired used keep himself busy by helping out at a number of preservation societies, he spent several months helping a friend called Peter renovate an old Black 5 steam engine in Southport on Merseyside. As I didn't share my dad's obsession I didn't know any of his train friends until one weekend when I had to pick him, turns out his mate Peter was actually Pete Waterman.
They wanted her to be to the UK what Tiffany and Debbie Gibson were to The US. Her Song The Locomotion was written by Carole King and her former Husband Gerry Coffin recorded by Eva Boyd their Former Babysitter who went by Little Eva that was also covered by Grand Funk Railroad.
Thank you for this compilation. So loved all the hits by SAW in the 80’s and 90’s. They’re undoubtedly UK’s biggest hit machine. Donna Summer became popular again because of them. Her album “Another Place And Time” by SAW was full of hits. Then we had Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Bananarama, Sonia, etc etc, so many artists had hits written by them. Apart from Euro Disco, SAW defined the sound of dance hits during that period.
Donna Summer is amazing. It's amazing how many people don't put her up with Patti LaBelle or Whitney Houston. She can hang with them easily her vocal range was amazing
Good list ... and the right #1 Donna Summer ... She is the queen of Disco. But, I miss one song under the 100 Edwin Starr with Whatever makes your love grow Many many of these songs are sleeping as 12inches in my record boxes. It‘s the right time to put the needle back to these records. Thanks for bringing back all the good and little less bad memories. In my mind I see all the nice girls dancing on the dance floors to most of this songs. Stay safe. Greetings from Bavaria
Had practically every one of these, also Cherry "Magic holiday", Kakko "We should be dancing", Rene Froger "Are you ready for loving me", Laura Brannigan "Shattered glass", Dolly Dots "What a night", Three Degrees "Heaven I need"...the list is endless! If it had PWL on it, it was worth taking a chance on and buying...along with any remix by Phil Harding and Ian Curnow. LOVE IT!!!
@Mikey Brown.....Yes indeed!! In my opinion Shattered Glass is one of their most brilliant tracks they produced and yet criminally underrated (#78 UK & #48 US!!) It should have been at least minimal a top 5 hit!! So well put together!!
Proud to say I have most of these on 12inch vinyl. There was a song by Sequal - Tell him I called that never charted and it’s really good along with The Three Degrees - The heaven I need that didnt chart either
Another winner here Francis and thank you for sharing as you mentioned here, some amazing guilty dance floor pleasure memories!! Loved by many & hated by some, Stock Aitken Waterman delivered in my opinion some of the most fun hits of the 80s and early 90s!! A very well rounded selection here....and I agree with your #1 choice....a brilliant match between singer and producers!!🥰🥰😁😁👍👍
Excited to see that you had those two DS tracks up near the top. I am however stunned at the missing Pat and Mik 'use it up and wear it out'. I would have had it pretty high on my list. And more Hazel Dean choices.
Thanks Sir Francis me too here in the Philippines Im a fan of Stock Aitken Waterman production many are a big part of my growing up years in the 80s era..loves it here as indeed..👍🤝🙏🏼💖😋💿📀🇵🇭
Fantastic list! Of course we will all have personal favourites. So happy with #1 and #2 for sure, but would have placed Kylie's "Better the Devil You Know" in the Top 10 and Bananarama's "Love in the First Degree", "Venus" and "I Heard a Rumour" in there too. Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" probably needs to be way higher, as does Mel & Kim's "Respectable", and probably one or two more from Kylie. Happy to have seen some non-releases too, like Kylie's "Always Find the Time", but would've thrown in Kylie's "Things Can Only Get Better" too. Why those two were never released as singles is beyond me! There are also a number of notable hits missing too. Where on earth was Hazell Dean's "They Say It's Gonna Rain"? While perhaps not massive in the UK, it was HUGE in Scandinavia and South Africa and other parts of the world. And what about Steps' "Tragedy" under the PWL label?
After watching for a while I thought you were gonna skip Samantha Fox and have none of her SAW songs in the countdown... then BAM!!! Great video and song list.
Got To Be Certain that It's No Secret that Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovon songs are tops for me When You Come Back To Me after Too Many Broken Hearts that were Sealed With a Kiss.
Although I like the Donna Summer's S-A-W album, nothing can beat Never Gonna Give you Up and Kylie & Bananarama singles, but as you said, it's your taste. Thanks for letting me discover some groups that I never heard before
What a GREAT idea for a video! Well done!! My personal favourite is always going to be PRINCESS. Her debut album is fantastic. SAW once said how much they loved working with her and they had plans to record other albums. The problem is that her brother got involved, tried to turn her into a female Prince (to adjust to the stage name!), but the sexy image didn't really suit her. Plus, the new songs were dull. Years later, SAW said they'd still love to work with her. Too bad it never happened.
Good times. Peter Robinson's my uncle and as a child I had a bit of hero worship towards him when it came to all this. His work goes beyond Rick and Sonia and them, of course, but when I was little those were the times and I was in awe.
1. "Never Gonna Give You Up" 2. "Better The Devil You Know" 3. "Venus" 4. "Wouldn't Change A Thing"(Your Thang Mix) 5. "Step Back In Time" 6."Spin Me Around" 7. "This Time I know It's For Real" 8. "I Should Be So Lucky" 9. "Got To Be Certain"(Extended Version) 10."Showing Out" Honorable Mentions "Shocked" "Especially For You" "What Do I Have To Do" "Say I'm Your Number One" "Say The Word(I'll Be There)" "The Loco-Motion(USA 7 Inch Single Version Mix) "Hand On My Heart"
Nice to see "This Time I Know It's For Real" from Donna Summer, "R.S.V.P." from Jason Donovan & "What Kind Of Fool" from Kylie Minogue so high. I was under the impression that only I remembered them so foundly. :)
I had totally forgotten Mandy Smith got the SAW treatment! Some amazing vocalists, Princess, Pete Burns, Lonnie Gordon, Sybil, Phil Fearon, Donna Summer and pure power pop acts Boy Krazy, Bananarama, Rick Astley, Jason, Sonia, Hazel Dean, and of course the legend that is Kylie. LOVE this top 100 - thank you!!
What an AWESOME put together ... THANKS 4 sharing such wonderful memories of days gone by when the world is still in a bad place with Covid .. love your choices .. divine lol dead or alive .. so many brilliant artists whom coloured our lives .... thanks .... Best wishes from Thailand
Agree with This Time I Know It’s For Real and You Spin Me Round but I would have rank Better The Devil You Know and You’ll Never Stop Me From Loving You in the top 5 as well.
@nmuzza1.....Dead or Alive's "Turn Around and Count to Ten" was not produced by Stock Aitken Waterman, although the beat is somewhat similar. When it came out, their popularity in the UK waned, yet in Japan it became a huge hit (no.1 I believe for 10 weeks) and eventually created a big following there.
Excellent #1 choice! It's definitely be in my top 10 SAW list - maybe even Top 5. But the real #1 should always be the coolest song in the history of the universe, Never Gonna Give You Up! 😎 Props on having "The Harder I Try" in the Top 20 and "That's What Love Can Do" in the top 10. I feel like people have a tendency to forget these two gems!
Totally agreed,Donna Summer #1 of SAW s productions but also i would Say that The other 99 SAW hits are # 1s as well, this guys are Genius of our time.....and Killie,Jason,Bananarama,Lonnie,Sonia, Samantha...etc are Queens and Kings of todays pop culture .... they're all great, I love and admire all...and The SAW sound was a true miracle, celestial dance pop, really honey for My ears
It had to be Donna Summer at #1 The music, lyrics and her amazing powerful vocal were truly sensational together. Such class and talent. It would have been superb if Donna had made further albums with the great trio
Firstly thank you for putting this together. Some tracks I’ve never even heard of. I used to love the SAW sound back in the day. My top track would have been What Do I Have To Do followed very closely by You Think You’re A Man. Thanks and good night.
Absolutely amazing compilation, any chance of another one please including What a night, Are you ready for loving me, Safe in the arms of love, to mention but a few more of my favourites. Oh and also Whatever your heart desires, an absolute gem. Thanks 💖
Everlasting Love was only remixed by SAW but not produced by them. It was produced by Michael Cretu as with all Sandra songs up until the mid 2000's approximately.
Especially for you shouldn't be at the 57th but at the 1st! The most beautiful couple of the pop for the most romantic song ever written!!! I'm subjectiv: teenager, I was in love with booth Kylie and Jason 💕😍😂
Shocked only 60. Pishaw. Lol... I get it, everyone's 100 would be different. My top 60 prob be just all Kylie songs.WDIHTD def be number 1.. Great vid 👍🏻
In the 1980's there was an act similar to Mel & Kim called Zhane who had the hit Groove Thang. There was also an R & B Duo called "Mel & "Tim" who had the Hit Starting All Over Again later performed and covered by Hall & Oates.
Give me just a little more heart was done originally by Chairman Of The Board that was released under the Invictus/Hotwax Label. it was created by Brothers Brian & Eddie Holland and the late Lamont Dozier after their acrimonious split from motown. However it was where Ray Parker Jr., worked as a session musician. Nathan Jones was recorded by the diana ross less supremes. Great story. Thanks for sharing!
That´s awesome!:)
Chalk and cheese with his SAW project and appearances fronting the Hitman & Her, but its true!
That story was really boring until the very end.
Kylie was The Queen of SAW
They wanted her to be to the UK what Tiffany and Debbie Gibson were to The US. Her Song The Locomotion was written by Carole King and her former Husband Gerry Coffin recorded by Eva Boyd their Former Babysitter who went by Little Eva that was also covered by Grand Funk Railroad.
And she's still the Aussie queen of pop.
Rick was king
And Rick the king
I prefer mandy smith.
Wow, the Stock-Aitken-Waterman trio were epic writers!
Speaking about eurodisco we can say that Dieter Bohlen was the German Stock Aitken Waterman 🙂
Love from Romania to everyone listening to this songs 🤗
Kylie Minogue 💖
I wholeheartedly agree. Donna Summer is #1. Her voice and their collaboration on TTIKIFR was pop magic!!
Donna Summer is amazing. It's amazing how many people don't put her up with Patti LaBelle or Whitney Houston. She can hang with them easily her vocal range was amazing
Jason, Donna, Sonia...que epoca tan fabulosa del pop...y mi Kylie eterna reina!
Good list with a couple of acts I've never heard of. Even Sir Cliff got the SAW treatment lol
Good list ... and the right #1 Donna Summer ... She is the queen of Disco.
But, I miss one song under the 100
Edwin Starr with Whatever makes your love grow
Many many of these songs are sleeping as 12inches in my record boxes. It‘s the right time to put the needle back to these records. Thanks for bringing back all the good and little less bad memories. Great music💃 Love you so much Samantha Fox❤❤❤
LOVE IT!!!
You are right about these songs being 'happy and dancy'. Something that is sadly lacking in today's music.
Fabulous trio of hit makers. These song still certainly get most of us up and dancing for sure.
I love that What kind of fool is your #5! My favorite song and it rarely gets celebrated!
How is Better the Devil you know so low? It’s a classic
OMG, the "You never stop me from loving you" from Sonia hits me right in my 7 year old feels at Russian summer camp!
Never Gonna Give You Up, Together Forever, Venus, Better the Devil You Know & Especially for You are my top 5 SAW songs. Thanks for the video!
Dead or alive spin me rohnd
Shattered Glass from the late Laura Branigan would be my number 1. Absolutely love it!
@Mikey Brown.....Yes indeed!! In my opinion Shattered Glass is one of their most brilliant tracks they produced and yet criminally underrated (#78 UK & #48 US!!) It should have been at least minimal a top 5 hit!! So well put together!!
also Kiwi & Tess - Give your heart :)
Yep, dont know it isn't on the list
What a package 👏👏👏
Pretty cool work; forgotten songs with Sybill, Sinitta, Lonnie, boy Krazy 👍
Proud to say I have most of these on 12inch vinyl. There was a song by Sequal - Tell him I called that never charted and it’s really good along with The Three Degrees - The heaven I need that didnt chart either
Thank you for the list, so many good songs in such a short time is unheard of in music history, and will never be repeated.
Great collection. My ex committed suicide in 2019. We bonded over SAW music. The music brought so much joy.
I hope this brought you a lot of comfort and happy memories...
Fantastic selection. Brilliant to see Lonnie, Sybil and Carol Hitchcock make one of these compilations amongst all the others. Excellent video 🙂
A great selection, 10 mins of feel good epic pop. My #1 S/A/W: Kylie - Better The Devil You Know
Excited to see that you had those two DS tracks up near the top. I am however stunned at the missing Pat and Mik 'use it up and wear it out'. I would have had it pretty high on my list. And more Hazel Dean choices.
It still bugs me to this day that Turn It Into Love wasn’t a single here, the best UK Number 1 Kylie never had.
Divine.. Ahhh..
When you come back to me and Better the devil you know for me. Loved your top 100.
Thanks Sir Francis me too here in the Philippines Im a fan of Stock Aitken Waterman production many are a big part of my growing up years in the 80s era..loves it here as indeed..👍🤝🙏🏼💖😋💿📀🇵🇭

Great choice for No 1! Awesome pop song 😍
Cool countdown! Great to see what kind of fool top 5!
The 80th were the Best decade 💃🇩🇪✌💥
After watching for a while I thought you were gonna skip Samantha Fox and have none of her SAW songs in the countdown... then BAM!!! Great video and song list.
So agree! I’m a huge Samantha Fox fan❤
All Great Songs - My Favorite was the Number 1 Song This Time I Know It's For Real By Donna Summer. Thanks For Posting.
Got To Be Certain that It's No Secret that Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovon songs are tops for me When You Come Back To Me after Too Many Broken Hearts that were Sealed With a Kiss.
Kylie Minouge y Rick Astley son los exponentes más significativos y famosos de S.A & W . los demás están muy lejos. impresionante fábrica de éxitos!
This Time I Know It’s For Real never fails to make me so happy and sad at the same time. Donna was a true gem!!
Although I like the Donna Summer's S-A-W album, nothing can beat Never Gonna Give you Up and Kylie & Bananarama singles, but as you said, it's your taste. Thanks for letting me discover some groups that I never heard before
Never Gonna Give U Up is THE Stock Atkin Waterman Song
Great job! I really enjoyed watching. Thanks!

From Hi-NRG to Euro House. I love all of their productions. VERY CREATIVE!!! The peak of music genius🎉🎉
Good to see that you made place for Mandy Smith. A lot of the other artists I did not know about, but in general a good compilation.
Good times. Peter Robinson's my uncle and as a child I had a bit of hero worship towards him when it came to all this. His work goes beyond Rick and Sonia and them, of course, but when I was little those were the times and I was in awe.

Nice to see "This Time I Know It's For Real" from Donna Summer, "R.S.V.P." from Jason Donovan & "What Kind Of Fool" from Kylie Minogue so high. I was under the impression that only I remembered them so foundly. :)
Thank u so much Francis for this video! As a SAW fan, remembering all these hits was amazing!!!!! Greetings from Argentina!!!
I had totally forgotten Mandy Smith got the SAW treatment! love your choices .. divine lol dead or alive .. so many brilliant artists whom coloured our lives .... thanks ....
Best wishes from Thailand
Thx Frances
Ohhh amazing so many memories. Kylie kylie is everywhere
#1 agree 100 %. Even though it has the SAW sound...Donna Summers co contributions to the song elevated it above the standard assembly sound
love this video good songs and artists on there
So many catchy tunes love them all ❤
You picked songs which are not heard often , also ones that weren’t big hits , nice to hear them
There should be A 5 cd celebration collection ,these is such good music, happy memories and s.a.w are very important producers in music history
I had no idea that big fun, or Mel and Kim were SAW, but listening to them again, of course they were. And great choice for the number one spot too.
Never Too Late and Happenin All Over Again were criminally low - they've aged like fine wine!
Agree with This Time I Know It’s For Real and You Spin Me Round but I would have rank Better The Devil You Know and You’ll Never Stop Me From Loving You in the top 5 as well.
Cool selection!!!
Thank you soo much Francis❤️ great & wonderful Music
Yessss!!! Donna Summer at number 1! Love it! 😂 I would’ve also snuck Turn Around and Count to Ten in there somewhere too. 👍👍
Bananarama Love in The first Degree is by far they're best record. The Horns hook is perfect and what a Chorus
Excellent #1 choice! It's definitely be in my top 10 SAW list - maybe even Top 5. But the real #1 should always be the coolest song in the history of the universe, Never Gonna Give You Up! 😎
Props on having "The Harder I Try" in the Top 20 and "That's What Love Can Do" in the top 10. I feel like people have a tendency to forget these two gems!
While these songs are fun and happy, we can't dny that all of them sound the same...
True, hehehe
Excellent producteurs.🌼🌼🌟🌟
Merci.🌟🌟🌟
Thanks for putting ''Love, Truth & Honesty" so high! It's one of my favourite Bananarama tracks! I feel it's so underrated.
the music is very good and enjoyed it
Spectacular collection!!
Nice trip down memory lane
Totally agreed,Donna Summer #1 of SAW s productions but also i would Say that The other 99 SAW hits are # 1s as well, this guys are Genius of our time.....and Killie,Jason,Bananarama,Lonnie,Sonia, Samantha...etc are Queens and Kings of todays pop culture .... they're all great, I love and admire all...and The SAW sound was a true miracle, celestial dance pop, really honey for My ears
It had to be Donna Summer at #1
The music, lyrics and her amazing powerful vocal were truly sensational together. Such class and talent. It would have been superb if Donna had made further albums with the great trio
Every artist they've worked with are from the UK, Italy, the US and Australia.
Yes!! Justice for What Kind Of Fool and Love, Truth and Honesty at last!! 👍
Jason Donovan est le meilleur !❤ R.S.V.P est incroyable !😍 L'adaptation de "Happy Together" mérite une meilleure place dans le classement !
Thanks 💖
I would have placed 'Everlasting love' by Sandra in the TOP 5. But it's probably number 101 actually ;-)
Everlasting Love was only remixed by SAW but not produced by them. It was produced by Michael Cretu as with all Sandra songs up until the mid 2000's approximately.
That is one of my fav covers, One of my ot her fav hit songs by her + not obviously PWL is-In the Heat of the Night :-)
@@rebelheartcr8599 Actually it was specifically Pete Hammond who remixed it
@@jasoncoyle7747 Oh, I see. My bad but anyway my point is that Everlasting Love is not an SAW production. :)
Thank you for some great memories 😊
Especially for you shouldn't be at the 57th but at the 1st! The most beautiful couple of the pop for the most romantic song ever written!!! I'm subjectiv: teenager, I was in love with booth Kylie and Jason 💕😍😂
Had to wait all the way to the end to see that you did indeed pick the correct number one 👍🥂
Shocked only 60. Pishaw. Lol... I get it, everyone's 100 would be different. My top 60 prob be just all Kylie songs.WDIHTD def be number 1.. Great vid 👍🏻
“Shocked” is my ultimate number one SAW song. Nothing will ever beat it. “WDIHTD” (along with Bananarama’s “Venus”) would be definite second.
this video is gold! im finding out so many good songs!
All wonderful songs!
What kind of fool, RSVP AND Boy Krazy!! top 10 💕💕
Este si es productor mil respetos aprendan niños de hoy
Esto si es Acer música ....
RSVP is a great little song, very underrated
Yes Its great, I love it too
That is a pop classic very underrated but i thinks that's Jason's best track ever
Wow that a surprise Donna The queen of euro disco thanks to Giorgio Moroder 👍👌who I saw live in 2019 London
You forgot a song by Dolly Dots, that should certainly be in top 100, its called what a night
In the 1980's there was an act similar to Mel & Kim called Zhane who had the hit Groove Thang. There was also an R & B Duo called "Mel & "Tim" who had the Hit Starting All Over Again later performed and covered by Hall & Oates.
Thanks for doing this. I don’t agree with your order but thats the beauty of music. Different things appeal to different people
What about Jason Donovan - You Can Depend On Me or She’s In Love With You
I always rememberd the pwl recordings with Mike stock pat Akein pete Waterman and all the songs my favourite of all time Is ferry aid let it be
Bravo pour ce classement
Give me just a little more heart was done originally by Chairman Of The Board that was released under the Invictus/Hotwax Label. it was created by Brothers Brian & Eddie Holland and the late Lamont Dozier after their acrimonious split from motown. However it was where Ray Parker Jr., worked as a session musician. Nathan Jones was recorded by the diana ross less supremes. Say I'm You're Number One went to #20 on Billboard's R & B Chart in the US.
The sixties had Holland-Dozier-Holland , modern times had Stock Aitken Waterman ...
