      Malcolm greetings from Australia.
Did you know that in 1969 Neil Sedaka was in Melbourne Australia and wrote a song called
"Wheeling West Virginia". A local DJ Bob Rogers heard the song and encouraged Neil to record the song.
The song was recorded in Sydney Australia (1969).
      Here is the song ruclips.net/video/1skAVcuTSoU/видео.html
Became a Top 20 hit here in Australia and New Zealand.
At 3min 27 sec of the film clip is a picture of the 45 single. The arranger on the song John Farrar.
John became Olivia Newton John's producer and song writer.
Bringing it back to Top 100 of 1978, John wrote both "You're The One That I Want" & "Hopelessly Devoted To You"
from the movie "Grease". He also wrote "Magic" from "Xanadu".

@@leanneb9529 That's right even for the seventies which was my second favorite decade for music. In my opinion, the early seventies were the best time for music (1970 to 1973). There were fewer bad songs for these early years of the seventies. The years 1974, 1975, and most of 1976 had fewer good songs than the early part of the decade. While 1977 wasn't too bad, 1978 was my favorite year of the late 70's even if it had some disco music. At least that year was not as bad for disco as 1979 was. That year was laden with crappy disco music. One of my favorite songs for 1979 was Music Box Dancer by Frank Mills.

I miss the seventies, when music was played by real musicians on real instruments - no cut and paste ProTools garbage, no AutoTune... Those were the days when you made it because you worked hard and were talented - not because of publicity stunts and endless promotion. It wasn't long after the seventies when music died, probably forever...

@@jacksquat4140 I agree with you - little worth listening to after the eighties. @@ExSkyCyclePilot: I didn't listen to music all that much from '88 to '92, but once I began listening again, everything had changed. It seemed every band that I knew had disappeared, and even those that remained, like Michael Jackson, and Madonna, had changed, and not for the better.
Having said that, I truly wonder what happened. 1986 was a solid year, but '87 saw a drastic decline in listenability. I know something was in the works that led to this downward spiral, but I think it's more than Autotune, and ProTools, which doesn't explain the emergence of Paula Abdul, Jewel, and Hootie and the Blowfish, to name a few. It seems like the entire soft rock scene had completely changed, or no longer existed.
