I lived in a small town in Idaho when a package worth over a thousand dollars was delivered to an address on the other side of town. Dude went out of his way to deliver it to me personally.
I caught a thieving Amazon delivery driver stealing my package after he snapped a picture and made him bring it back. He also stole 2 packages from my neighbor'se porch and returned them after I caught him. He got reported to Amazon who started an investigation.
I've caught one potential porch pirate. He was casing my neighbor's packages, and I walked to the end of my driveway and started filming him. He saw me and got in his car and sped off leaving empty handed.

I once caught one, I happened to be cleaning my Uzi on the back porch, and he tried stealing from the front porch. Well, needless to say I brought my freshly cleaned Uzi with me. On his knees, the guy peed his pants, literally, and kept saying „PLEASE call the Police and don’t kill me!“ My made-up story of being a veteran with PTSD had really impressed him 😜 I told him I‘d tell police that I felt that my life was threatened. There is little to no consequences for such actions is why it is so prevalent. A few years ago, the town I live in was totally evacuated due to 3 forest fires surrounding it. The elderly were told to take only their valuables and were bussed to a city 3 1/2 hours away. In order to make sure of their safety, the hospital there had prepared a floor for them to stay at. Sad to say, but many had their jewelry and cash stolen while there. They already were traumatized not knowing what would await them when they returned and then to put your trust in an institution only to be victimized. It also happened to several who had driven to said city with their most prized possessions in the vehicle only to have the vehicle broken into and possessions stolen while parked outside where we were being sheltered.
