Absolutely beautiful to listen to. Sad there is no accompanying film but one cannot have everything. More than happy to simply listen to such talent.

Another great performance from Yuja. She has found and brings out lines
most others have missed. She has the technique and the ear to do whatever
is called for in a composition...and MORE!

to abmsghost1 .... Hear hear, I agree whole-heartedly. Typically, people with ego-dystonic behavoir and other behavioral issues will spout off at the mouth as is demonstrated. If they THINK that they can do better... we're here to listen!! This young lady is unbelievably gifted!

@concerto35 No doubt about that, it's a transcription of the scherzo. I was just wondering about when she played this piece :)

Some are complaining that she is playing this to heavy... They may have a point but I really like this rendition and remember this is not a studio recording where she can repeat until everyone is satisfied. Live Performance... one shot and perhaps it is not perfect... but instead very exciting and engaging.

I consider your argument but I think the sound here plays a big factor to be taken in, the recording acoustics is really bad, with a huge metallic overlay-consider that naturally a Steinway Concert Grand will never sound like that, and if you make that correction in your mind-or the people you report are saying this-all would be right. Now let me emphasize this, there are two ways to play the piano, the first is the style of the early 20th century and the current much deeper and articulate style. Both are valid but I personally consider the more elaborate and deeper style that Yuja Wang plays here is the most appropriate to the passion of the music.

WJE37FCSM Absolutely not too heavy. The recording. She controls ppp much better than any other

+Peter Fritz Walter I too prefer the earlier performances - more dynamic I think - particularly the Russians Gilels and Gavrilov. I also prefer the seldom heard Marina Yahklakova. Ms Wang plays this similar to the Rachmaninoff recording. He to was "heavy" considering it is a mdisummer's night dream, not nightmare. I really think Olga Kern performed this about as well as it could be interpreted.

@concerto35 Actually, at first, Mendelssohn did write a piano version for four hands of this piece in 1827 that he used to play with his sister. Then he transcribed it into an orchestral version 15 years later. RUclips has a good version with Argerich and Marton.

My opinion is the bigger the technique, the larger the musical must be in communication. Yuja's technique is just SO huge that her musicality must catch up. This is NOT to say she isn't musical, but she is still young. There is great potential. Unfortunately, these days technique seems to reign king. There are so many wonderful players today with no wheres near Yuja's technique but who are incredibly musical. Just because a pianist has tremendous technique doesn't mean they are tremendously musical. Ms. Wang does have both, but the technique is so overwhelming. Horowitz, Rach et al had even amounts of all which is what made them legendary.

I've only heard this once before; on a vinyl remake of Rachmaninoff's own recordings. I think Yuja does a better job of it. However, I think the tuning has loosened up a bit, probably after the 3rd concerto if the information is correct. As utubuser10 states below, "not well-played? are you kidding?" I and a lot of other in all likelihood think her performance here, amazing and the work of a master.

Oh Bret Bret...can't take that on direct comparison with your obsessive /compulsive crush on Jung, that Yuja plays this particular encore with superior clarity and pianistic skill, for as much as the talented Jung is commendable, 'A priori' being "dull" to your ears,,,LOL :-)

This poster is one of the alternate screen-names used by former Bret6464. Deleted and blocked by YT and unloaders for racist and scatological posts, he pulled his channel before termination-vowing to "get" ME for having been part of thwarting his trolling harassment of users who did not bow to his musical obsessions. You see example of that here...
The multi-names also served him well in manically voting 'like' to HIS statements..voting 'dislike' or spam on those he opposed.
    Psychotic. :-)

Thank you . But everything's fine here . I have a lovely wife and all , I say all , is perfect with her . I have 3 wonderful boys , and I am not impaired . And not "unappealing" at all . . . . (haha) . . . .BUT ! But I love the dresses of Yuja and her superficial charming sexy pianism going with it. And because I am no victorian prudish english or american , I SAY IT ! Are you pleased now ? Ohhhhh....I just forgot , if you know Yuja personnally , the tight-laced corset for the next concert, ok ?

Yuja brings out a lot of inner voices that Kissin misses but her approach is so heavy-handed it lacks that fairy-lightness the piece so desperately needs in order to match the glossamar orchestration that Mendelssohn writes.

I am not a democrat . The number of people who don't share my opinion is for me totally uninteresting . Only counts what people bring as an opinion , as a comment or a sensation . And you , what do you bring with you ? Nothing .

Excuse me , I am very sorry , but your english is in the first paragraph a little too sophisticated for my level . I fear I cannot understand every nuance . . . . for example , why do you write wife like that : 'wife' and what are you trying to suggest with my 3 children ? 'boys' ? For the second paragraph , I am happy to be the "cretin at work" which is able to understand much more by the Ninth as other people usually do .

I give her chops for her technique and also good sound control. But I think she plays mechanically, without soul. It's almost always my response to whatever she plays... still, a very gifted pianist technically.

    • @solbriller1
      @solbriller1 9 лет назад +4

pianofan24 Then you not listened to much of her playing. Try Sonata Lizst, Schubert/Lizst; Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Chopin or much other. Mechanical:) She has more expression than even the best. Here very rhythmical - but should be

I have to agree with Stefan Nestoroski, this is rather crude and raucous, a hodgepodge of notes and little to no music. Sometimes I enjoy crude and raucous, though!
