- How to remove the carb from the S and SM DRZ400. These bikes have a Mikuni 36mm carburetor.
Detailed tutorial of how to remove the tank: • How to remove and rein...
Straight to the point, quick, concise and awesome quality. Couldn't ask for more, thanks for a great video bud!
if you remove the top subframe bolt, and loosen the lower subframe nuts, (with the bike on a stand or jack) you can push the subframe back and that gives you more room for the carb to back out of the front and back boots.

Haha awesome vid man, taking my carb off tonight. Cheers from Colorado!
never done a carb before. this vid was excellent
Kfc Sanders cheers dude :)
Thanks for all the videos man, I bought a 2008 SM for $2700, since its winter I'm taking everything apart and replacing or redoing mostly everything, thanks for the insight.
Thank you. Your camera shots are so much better than the other videos about this on RUclips. Cheers.
This is a great video man. It shows exactly what i wanted and you didnt make it sound complicated at all.
It was great how you showed taking the carb out of the bike, as most other videos i have seen skip that part.
Thanks very much for this vid. Exactly the right amount of detail. Had my carb off in under 30 minutes with no blood and no profanity.
No blood and profanity? Impossible!
Nice and concise. I have fuel draining out of the black hose, assuming it's a float or needle drama. Thanks for the tips (on pulling the rear airbox hose clear out of the way ) very helpful.
Amazing how different it was taking off and jetting my 2020 drz400sm carb. Much less wires and hoses. Guess this bike has had more changes over the years than people realize.
Depends on what country and state your in probably.
Awesome video! first time opening my DRZ 400s carb and felt comfortable . I'm also installing the Yamaha rapor pet cock since mine is leaking. The stock ones are shitty.
Take the fuel line off and vac line then loosen the hose clamps for the boot and turn the carb . Never took mine out did it in about an hour
Tip: just loosen the drain bolt on the bottom of the bowl to drain out excess gas from the carb ;)
Very helpful and straight to the point! Thanks a ton
also have to remove the rearmost muffler bolt from the subframe so that you can move the subframe back...
Very helpful video. Thanks a lot!
If anyone's reading this: There's no need to take the tank off, or any of the side panels. Undo the throttle cable, unplug the TPS. disconnect fuel line, and take the clamps off the rubber gasket/boot. then take something like handle of a large wrench(spanner) as a prybar between the frame and the rear boot. Then you just wiggle the carb out. Takes about 3-5min.
Use some spit on the inside of the boot to lube it going back on.
Smart aleck , make your own version and shut up.
My airbox is ridgid, and did NOT move back easily like that unfortunately... thanks for the vid!
Completely true. I removed the thru bolt securing the rear subframe to the frame near seat/fuel tank mount on top member, then loosened the two bolts at the bottom of the subframe to allow it to pivot back a couple of inches. This completely simplified removing the airbox snorkel from the carb mouth. Also suggest loosening wire ties on upper sections to facilitate this. All the bolts i mention are 12mm hex.
Thanks for great vid. Absolute worst part of the DRZ that I can tell.
Thank you for the instructional video!
My pilot jet is plugged, so i can idle at full choke but dies with choke closed... seems to happen to every DRZ eventually. I even winterized the fuel properly.
I read somewhere if all you need is to clean the jets, you can just loosen the jubilee clips and then rotate the carb 90 degrees over to access the bottom without actually removing it. Anyone ever try this?
Is this the mikuni cv carb?
I'm trying to figure out which one i have on my bike. Thanks
Hi thanks for helpful video im new subscribers what is the year of your drz? Thank you in advance
Wicked video thanks, don’t suppose you can do a video of breaking down the carburettor and cleaning it.
Great video. Awesome camera work.
Brill man thanks
I'm having a real pain with the pull cable going back on. Any tips?
Very helpful video man! Thanks a lot!
Hey man! What is the hose to the right of the choke? I just bought a used Drz the other day and that’s been broken on it
I don't have a "this wire here" at 4:05. What is that for? Only newer models? Emisions?
I am going to clean my Carb tommorow 😎
Bonjour. Où va la durite qui part de la cuve et qui finit avec un embout blanc en plastique ? Merci !
Excellent! Thank you.
the wires at 2:42 what are they called and for?
I'm also curious if you find out :)
Positive battery cable to starter
The cables he removed? Throttle cable ...
The bottom of the carb there is a black hose with a white male end where does that go to mine is missing and my bike won't rev
Undo the 3 subframe bolts and everything becomes much easier.
I find this very interesting to watch.
However I'm afraid I won't be able to piece it all back together if I try this myself.
It’s not hard. It’s actually easier if you pivot the subframe up, which can be done by removing the bolts on each side down near the footpeg S, and loosening the subframe bolts at the top. Pivoting this up a bit and out of the way makes it much easier to move the airbox back from the carburettor. Much easier to put it back in too
Would have loved to watch you wiggle it back in. That’s what currently is giving me grief
just wondering, what year is your bike is and have you done the loctite fixes?
Jacob Broske 2004 DRZ 400 S. and no
thanks
do you have a video of you cleaning the carb out?
i coudl have used this 5 days ago...
next step.......throw the CV carb away and replace with a flat slide.
airbox boot brotha! its called a boot
Must be an easier way an that , I can't get mine out without damaging something
Won't come out. Don't understand
Same process aplies to the sm??
Josue David same question?
I got it out, I can't get it back it! You really couldn't show that?
@nsxproperties560
At least this dude took the time to show idiots how to do a simple carburetor removal, quit your whining
Reverse the steps lmao
Put ppppppppp
Vote negative: you miss to describe which year is your DRZ400, because old models must have carburetor Keihin FCR MX 39
