Some solid build ideas! I think the Noble Officer will probably be a more “canon” RT playthrough and making Abelard your servant. Especially with all the dialogue choices in the game. Of course making Argenta your servant may be better, but I just love how diverse all the builds can be!
I feel like noble is the way to go. Maybe a crime lord. If I have a space marine companion... I am not building melee, let the wolf do it) Same could be said for ranged, since I can get an eldar ranger. Emperor's faith is also well represented by a sister of battle.
Can't wait. I just started Penitent, the last of the Eisenhorn trilogies on Audible. Absolutely loving it - much better than the general reviews would have you believe imo. Having a great female narrator, Helen Keeley, really helps in this case (same with The Imperial Radch series - Adjoa Andoh killed it with that!). Highly recommend if you love WH40K and haven't read/listened to these as yet (same with the other 2 earlier trilogies). Wolf Brothers FTW! For The Emperor!
Just gotta say how much I loved The Imperial Radch series. The first time I had a corrupt file name issue that meant the 2nd and 3rd book were switched in order. Thought it was a weirdly intense cold-open until well in, but it otherwise held up commendably. The narrator absolutely killed with her portrayal of the translators.
I was considering something with either the noble or commisar leader into tactician. I guess commisar is sort of hedging your bets to have a little more personal power, whereas noble is going all in on leadership.
The Astramilitarum marksman is what I used in beta. It is extremely potent. With it and cassia giving more extra turns, it pretty much cleared the floor most the time. Focused on critical hits to kill enemies. The auto rifle at close range was an enemy deletion device - even bosses. And building to the ultimate was as natural as breathing every other round. Definitely a basic build with no gimmicks, just badass soldier shoot guy build.
yea i was thinking of doing that because I like the pew pew, but i am also torn between the noble officer for the rogue trader roleplay. Tough choice, don't know which will be better gameplay wise though
Not yet decided on the exact build but definitely going psyker because on how they interact with the universe. I like the trope of powers that have severe consequences. Gonna look out for your melee option.

Build #1 is EXACTLY the build i wanted to make. I remember back in 6th edition when i would give my rune priest biomancy and just wrecked house in duels. I made that character in dark heresy 2nd ed and im SO down to play it in rogue trader. I will instead of doing assassin, ill probably use vanguard.
Love the builds mate. Im having a hell of a time trying to decide what i want to play in this game haha! I have played the prologue probably 5 times now trying varuous chars out.. i like soldier but the battle sister makes it feel kinda pointless to play on with my mc.. im leaning pretty heavily towards the officer just cause all that fellowship for the diologue in the game, i just really like doing damage, haha so officer as main char feels kinda passive.. No idea what imma do, eventually ill play the game past prologue!
I'm thinking on going biomancer psyker/officer into grand strategist and grabbing divination along the way. It's very much a support/healing role that can buff other allies but is a bit more focused and giving team mates more total actions than buffing the actions they normally have like the tactician. I haven't played the release build but in the beta divination also contained most of the very limited pre-buff abilities in the game. Letting you buff your party before combat instead of wasting actions in combat to apply them. Meaning even more actions for your team!
Psyker Telepath + Warrior + Arch Militant Slap on a power armour, a force weapon in one hand storm bolter in the other. "I'am the hammer, the tip of his spear" and proceed to absolutely annihilate everything Grey Knights style.

The guard (nee marksman) Hunter build is what I ran for my 1st Core playthrough. RT+Argenta trivialized. But my 1st build is going to be Comissar, Officer, Master Tactician. Aka:Caiphus Cain. Though the psyker looks awesome too. Multiple playthroughs ahoy.
Noble Officer and Crime Lord Operative are both going to be great choices( the latter I'm thinking might be my first run). The other is inspired by Joshua Graham circa FNV and go Ranged Pyro Psyker. Probably not the best to use Psyker abilities and a gun but it would fit The Burned Man, curious if any of the Fortress World talents like Never Stop Shooting affect Psyker abilities, and at least start as a hardcore Imperialis character who takes their faith very seriously.
I want to make a psyker that utterly dominates the battlefield. Somebody that doesn't do a whole lot of damage, but manipulates the battle to their advantage, buffs allies, debuffs and controls enemies, etc.
I'm very tempted to try to make a Han Solo type out of a Crime Lord, but for my first run I'll probably see if I can't make a slightly scrappy Noble. I'm also very curious about what possibilities exist for a Commissar. A real "Imperial Hard-Ass" playthrough might be fun.

I originally was thinking of going meele psyker too but I gave up on that idea due to one of the companions already going that route while both "officer" companions really are more interesting when you focus in their unique aspects (like going all in on Cassia's navigator talents and abilities)
I was thinking of doing a very similar biomancer + pyromancer build, but zigging towards a "jack of all trades" type build (having some affinity in melee, ranged, debuffs, and healing), and going Operative then Grand Strategist (instead of the more obviously better fit of warrior) to focus more on the debuff side of things. Do you think that'd be viable and fun, or would I just be nerfing myself? Or, is maybe there something here but I should perhaps try Officer instead? (not sure if one would then want vanguard or master tactician)

I started with your second one, the Crime Lord. Give 'em a sniper rifle. One-shotting mid tier goons from across the map at 95% to hit, and taking down the big boys right quick, with all the damage boosts. Don't even need very high Ballistics Skill to do it with the sniper rifle.
At worst the game will be a buggy mess at launch that requires a few months of patching. I don't think the core of the game is bad, this is the sort of RPG 40k fans have wanted and deserved for a long time.
I find the game tactic of just stacking damage bonuses and focusing down opponents tedious gameplay. I want to try a build that does NOT focus on damage and instead broadens the gameplay. Are there any novel character builds that explore other gameplay mechanics other then damage dealing and mitigation?

I was planning Ministorum Priest with Marksman so they'll have Sister Argenta's Momentum buff and hopefully having them ultimate'ing more often. I am thinking either a forgeworld or voidworld psycher pyro marksman benevolentia. or a sniper similar to yrliet but for a imperium playthrough when I don't use her. maybe an operative telepath for my hereticus build
No Tyranids I've seen but you will be thrilled with the Mechanicum and Chaos stuff. I don't think anything has captured 40K atmosphere this well, maybe DarkTide and OwlCat loves the lore more than is healthy for them :) I clocked over 100 hours in beta and it was a joy.

I almost always go some kind of Charisma type build for my first RPG playthrough. Both because I like RPing a smooth talker and support character. Not sure if I'll go Noble or Criminal for this game yet.
In my first game I want to make a nobleman who commands everyone on the battlefield, and I will do a very rare thing I will play a good noble (as much as possible)
I tend to favor making my protagonist a leader-type in these games, so officer is probably a shoo-in for me. Exactly which background I'll pick is another matter entirely.
This will probably just a better version of Owlcat's Heinrix autobuild, who's also a Sanctioned Psyker/Warrior melee damage dealer (Abelard is the tank)

Priest makes solid warriors too. They like to be in melee. That being said Pancric Psykers make great inquisitors too, a lot of their abilities feel like a Paladin.
Likely going to do a traitor playthrough first with a psyker that fully embraces all things chaos, then will go a full emperor worshiper with either commissar or noble where no heretics or aliens will be left standing. I wonder if it's possible to turn the space wolf and sister of battle to chaos.
knowing myself ill almost alyways end up going with the "boring" leadership route for my PC in these kinds of games, just cause i dont want to end up missing any extra content that is locked away behind making certain speech/social interaction checks. but i do wonder how customizable the companions are going to be that way. like if the crazy damage synergy builds are something you can build a certain companion into. i reckon at the very least their origin will most likely be locked in?
The companions you meet early have their origin and first archetype locked in but can be built from level 1 onwards how you want. Unfortunately companions you meet later can only be respecced to the level you met them at and any less than desirable choices are locked in. I hope Owlcat considers changing this but likely won't.
I'm most interested in playing a Noble commander with persuasion and buffs/debuffs but doubling down on a similar build with Cassia since I want her in my party (also the one who I will choose to romance). One week left until release lets goo! :D

Not sure if you know to much on the lore, but how would you do a build based on the adeptus arbites or a arbites judge (basically space judge dredd)

Trust on owlcat. They make amazing RPGs, I've played both pathfinders and it was some of the most fun I've had. Lots of reading tho
yeah 40k games usually don't release well but they are usually borderline indie games with AAA prices hopefully they have learned their lesson

Likely going to do a traitor playthrough first with a psyker that fully embraces all things chaos, then will go a full emperor worshiper with either commissar or noble where no heretics or aliens will be left standing. I wonder if it's possible to turn the space wolf and sister of battle to chaos.

My first playthrough will definitely be built around whatever stats and skills support dialog. Same reason I played a Bard main for my first BG3 run.

thats a very niche topic but maybe
knowing myself ill almost alyways end up going with the "boring" leadership route for my PC in these kinds of games, just cause i dont want to end up missing any extra content that is locked away behind making certain speech/social interaction checks.
but i do wonder how customizable the companions are going to be that way. like if the crazy damage synergy builds are something you can build a certain companion into. i reckon at the very least their origin will most likely be locked in?
The companions you meet early have their origin and first archetype locked in but can be built from level 1 onwards how you want. Unfortunately companions you meet later can only be respecced to the level you met them at and any less than desirable choices are locked in. I hope Owlcat considers changing this but likely won't.

Something I want to try is an "apes together strong" build with 4 humans with the passive that gives a stat to other humans and all pick strength.
Sanctioned Psyker Warrior Assassin was also what I was thinking of as my first char. I like playing bruisers and this is the closest to a fighter imo.
I'm most interested in playing a Noble commander with persuasion and buffs/debuffs but doubling down on a similar build with Cassia since I want her in my party (also the one who I will choose to romance).
