"Abelard, thank Lord Mortismal for the Patch Highlights" 🧐
I hate that they nerfed dodge tanking. I loaded my last game save where I used spray and pray build for Argenta and Aberald to tank stuff. Now he doesn't dodge her volley attacks. The logs show nothing about it. So it might be a bug or something.
Holding off on rouge trader until its DLC are all out and its had a bit more time to cook. Great coverage as always, thanks for doing what you do mate. 😊
Same.
I returned it after i got it day one. I really like pathfinder wotr but this game felt like a step down in quality imo. Still keeping tabs because im hopeful of it being enjoyable and for a good price one day
@@watzbeats9104 I backed it on Kickstarter. I have no regrets, I'm personally satisfied it's already worth the money. I choose to wait because owlcats games are so long, I typically burn out on subsequent playthroughs. So I figured I'd wait until till fully updated and all DLCs so I can experience it all in one mega playthrough.
I played the base version, but i think i'll wait until everything is out before i do another run.
@@watzbeats9104the game is very enjoyable and the quality is good i like it alotis is one of my favorites warhammer games
Damn. Seize the Initiative letting an ally take a turn was the MAIN power spike, and therefore reason, to play the officer.
Yea it sounds so bad now… not only is it a worse ability (just boring damage buff which will ALWAYS be worse because an extra turn is a 100% damage buff and I doubt they made it that strong) but also it’s WAY more limited since it only works on enemies that haven’t taken a turn yet…
Which means past turn 1 it’s just useless??
@@UnusualEchotake the officer perk that lets you always go first and use only officer abilities. But the extra turn it still better
@@UnusualEchobelieve it gives you a damage boost vs enemies below your current position in the turn order.
Which is still a damage boost for the Dogmatic/Iconoclast brigades
@@benjamminraps1030 Ahh, that’s a bit better at least
I don't mind the direct nerfs. What annoys me is how they changed Seize the Initiative. They didn't just nerf it, they fundamentally changed how it worked, and now it's functionally useless because of how heavily the turn order favors enemy targets. I'm having battles where I fight 20 enemies, and 3 of my people (two of whom are officers) go dead last. I've said this elsewhere but I feel a better change would've been to just have the skill apply your Fellowship bonus to your Agility bonus when determining turn order. Therefore it does what it says on the tin.
A better option may be to use movement rolls to move characters ahead 2 points per movement roll.
It won’t effect attacks and so on, would give you more flexability and so on.
Also would be a nice counter to BS swarms
Yeah it went from amazing to basically useless which I a really bad feeling. Wish they had buffed some of the weaker classes if they were going to just drop such crippling nerfs to officers when they were needed to bring other classes online.
Yeah I get it's "too good" but this is essentially forcing at least two party members to respec.
Aurora on unfair is a shitshow now... Seize the initiative really felt like the correct solution for the fight before. Now I've got no idea how to wiggle my way out of it
I recently completed my second playtrough, Heretic path and I am a little bit burned out. Seeing Owlcat tirelessly working on updating, balancing out, and further improving the game, is just amazing. I can't wait for EE, with updates this solid.
I finished my first playthrough and just made the decision to wait for patches and DLC to play it again. And I really wanted to start a second save almost immediately after credits rolled
@@jesot You're not gonna go wrong there, playing a different character is very cool, especially if you play a different alignment . I am probably going to wait for the EE (it's most likely in the distant future), but the game is absolutely worth replaying.
Yes and no. Of course it's great that they update and support their games , but it's a repeating pattern since Kingmaker: a hail fire of patches and hotfixes.
EE?
@@PharsusExtended Edition
Praise the Emperor for Owlcats diligence!
While I'm happy with the changes, some of the stuff they added felt so necessary that I'm both amazed and annoyed that they weren't in the game at launch. For example, how did they not have quest and rumor markers on the galaxy map before now?
Rip my officer noble, your power will never be forgotten
Love to see post-launch improvements. Waiting a few years to play single-player games keeps paying off.
If they want to buff psykers, adding more force weapons should be one of the top to do list things. Especially two handed weapons. Right now we got 3 force weapons (one of which is locked to heretical creed and it's the only two hander in-game) and one spell. There's hope we will see one in DLC, but that's not enough.
Last I heard the hereticus force sword got changed to being one handed as well.
Therefore outside sword of faith ability, no two handed force weapons at all. Not good.
@@Dzugoslav isn't their the ancient force sword from the ruins?
Still definitely not enough
If they wanted to buff psychers they wouldn't fill the game with battle maps with nearly maxed out veil degredation.
@@cameronroy2129 that one is one hander and only other force weapon
Thank you for breaking this down for us! I was looking for a video on this last night.
Love this patch so much. It's exactly what I've been waiting for since release. Cassia is still too obvious of a super power to not take in every group, but the officer stacking isn't nearly as broken and tempting as before. I'm having a lot more fun on a new save with pyromancy, too. Ignite is doing more damage than most guns and melee weapons. Really opens up the build options.
versatility initially worked with psyker powers, then they patched it, now they're patching it back
Thank you much appreciated.
I appreciate games trying to be balanced for all playstyles, but I also appreciate when a game just lets you break the shit out of it and have fun any way you want. On my playthrough I absolutely abused chaining extra turns onto Argenta (arch-militant) and wiping whole encounters before the enemy even knew what was happening, and had a lot of fun just running through bringing the emperor's justice to the forces of chaos like a bunch of badasses. Kinda makes me sad that they are taking that play option out of the game.
Thing is, you can likely reduce difficulty and still have an equivalent effect, but with how the game is you can’t really turn up the difficulty and get a challenging experience if you want that without actively trying to nerf yourself. The best builds are just that much beyond the enemy ability to respond. The only enemy that I can recall hitting us so far was Aurora, and one time where my officer didn’t get to start a fight with the team. It’s a lot of fun and absolutely hilarious, but if you’re wanting an actual game it seems a little unreasonable to be forced to not try your best, and if I am being honest I am not too fond of the only answer being to increase the enemy stats to the point where the enemy may just one shot you if you don’t one shot them. That said I feel like seize the moment was rather excessively nerfed here, having a lesser effect was clearly needed, but also having limited use cases on top of that seems a bit rude.
Awesome. I put in 100 hours in testing but am still only halfway through Act 2.
It is coming together nicely now.
Playing Pathfinder: WotR and will jump back on with the DLC probably.
Fingers crossed the Genestealer Magus gets a purple limousine.
thank you morty for covering these patch updates!
Cassia not being able to "Reveal the Light" on herself greatly diminished her own damage output. Taking into account that the Officer class can't throw bonus turns around as before means she and Argenta can't full clear maps before anyone can even flinch any more.
But what I will miss most of all will be the casual 3000+ damage hits of Assassin Pascal and Yrliet. 😢
Thanks! Been wondering what the new things are. Rogue Trader is amazing. And I would be finishing it up, but Dawntrail is about to release, so it will have to wait.
Played a few hours of the patch last night - seems to work great, the UI is much cleaner (especially for controller). The game feels more polished for sure
Yeah I just picked up Wrath of the Righteous. Rogue Trader's interface is beautiful but Pathfinder's is so much more readable. I still get lost scrolling through abilities levelling up. The sideways chart of Feats in Pathfinder is much easier to understand.
@@Wombats555This a qol improvement where u can search the ability by name is sorely needed.
If the leveling system is still just comparing a bunch of math formulas I'll pass, leveling in the game is a chore
Thanks for the video. Something I've only seen done a few times to this XCOM-like formula of combat, is an improvement to how you move. I think structuring a mechanic that limits your mobility will always run into problems in the late game when you've leveled up. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
I've been holding off on playing this game due to the bugs, but it seems like now is the perfect time to dive in.
Idk why they nerfed the worst archetype (Bounty Hunter) to make it even worse.
I haven't started my first play through yet but I've got everything installed and ready to go.
Sounds like after this patch it's a great time to start though! Thanks for the update
it is not. if you waited so long you should wait for the DLC coming next month.
Haven't gotten far enough to get to archmilitant, but pyromancer-soldier is already pretty solid. Never Stop Believing's synergy with crazy willpowers for fortress world and the run and gun ignite firestorm pretty much clears trash and mid tier mobs. Never stop shooting stacks and works with Psyker powers now too :D
The Emperor Protects!
I stopped playing at the point where I lost my equipment and had to find my party members again. I really need to finish it but I just never like that trope in games.
Sanctioned Psykers being able to increase Psy Rating at earlier levels is wonderful
I just couldn't get past the levelling process in this game. It was so convoluted. A spreadsheet may have actually been easier. This was definitely a time where being true to pen and paper means having an obscure computer game. Min Maxxers will probably love this, but I just don't have the energy for that anymore.
Great, that means I can play this with the DLC in August. Cause I tried twice to play through it but both save games broke at different points in act 4 and act 5 and I gave up there tbh.
That is far from praise worthy. And people complained on BG3's act 3. This is just bad, not able to finish a game because it locks you out from doing so.
@@Marcusianery i am not praising it. I just said i can finally finish it, because a refund was long gone after getting to act 4. And I totally agree, Owlcat gets away with far too much when it comes to bugs in the eyes of their fans.
@@countryc0unt Oh I didn't mean you! I hsould been more detailed in who I meant. I still say their games get over praised when they can be messes with tacked on mechanics. But the bugs the real issue.
I feel your pain. When I did Divinity OS 2 I had a game breaking bug right after the final boss so never got the end achievements or finishing cinematics... was a terrible feeling and I just never cared to go back.
@@Marcusianery ah gotcha, no worries! Totally with you on that.
Thanks
Just loaded an old save with final battle. Balance tweaks are tangible, but Warrior/Archmil can still infilct thousands of emperror's grace per swing. And you can still do dozens of swings per round, so final boss didn't survive first one.
"Pyromancer was a bit underwhelming" I won't like like 80% of what my Pyro was doing was just overusing op Officer abilities cause damage was generally bad xD
Abusing extra turns to ramp up burn damage was funny though.
I'm optimistic for the future of the game
I just completed this game like two days ago :( Kinda wish I had held off a while longer, but oh well. I loved it.
I played the game back in March, absolutely loved it and only noticed a few bugs. Occasionally the pathing got wonky and nobody could interact with a point of interest. Another bug I encountered was very late game, where I couldn't complete a colony project. It was one of those projects where I'd have to physically travel to the planet, but the game just wouldn't register that I was there. And the weirdest bug I've ever seen was also very late game. The game started crashing to desktop, but it would NEVER crash until I went into the menu and clicked the button to exit to desktop. An error message would pop up and then the game would crash. I've never seen a game be so considerate with crashing before.
I'll start a fresh playthrough when the DLC comes out, may give pyromancy a try. I didn't really know what I was doing with classes so I just picked officer, and that ended up being superfluous because Cassia is already an officer and she never left my party. Might spec Sister Argenta differently too, I built her into a sniper and she was great at it, but then I picked up Yrliet so I had double snipers.
I’ve noticed the patching being wonky as well on console
@@Eskeletor_210 it's weird, right? Sometimes you'll click on something and your character just won't interact with it. I'll switch between all my characters, try going at it from different angles, nothing. But it's a pretty minor issue all things considered.
These sound like really positive changes. Looking forward to my next playthrough. It will be quite different without Yrliet spam.
Love the Game
Haven’t finished my play through yet but hoping to play some more soon
What bothered me the most before was the items that didn t work and some abilities that also didn t work properly including the ones that were too OP. Snipers were very much underwhelming compared to psyker or archmilitant with bolter.
I've played the game during the beta and at launch. I had a great time, but the wheels realy started falling off at Act4. So i dropped it for now. But i'll definetly pick it up again once the larger pieces of DLC are out, wich should be at the end of thid year according to their roadmap
I am going to put my next play through on hold until the conviction update.
The pyro buff is cool and all but what sold me is the visual update. Before you just point your hand and suddenly enemy die of heart attack, now theres gonna be proper laser beam and flamestorm.
Cool finally being able to use pyro without needing to get halfway through the game using a sniper before you can be useful
Psyker arch militant build, say no more.
F in the chat for Cassia. 😵
Passing a certain point you could soloed everything just with Cassia ^^.
An interesting and insightful video, as always!
Would you say that the game is close to being complete now (in terms of features, content, production) or is it rather a matter of being on the right path to being complete?
As much as I appreciate the dev improving their titles, I definitely don't want to play a glorified Early Access thing... Of course, I am over-simplyfying things with this statement, but the sentiment remains.
Might consider waiting until DLC2 comes late 2024 (2025 feels likely)?
Like this big gameplay logic changing patch, feels like there will be another as that DLC approaches. (So this idea is not about a DLC purchase per se, see)
Others in the comments mention this "1 year cook" type policy for crpgs. It's tough to wait, I know.
Owlcat in particular seems to make lots of 'bug' and 'balance' 'fixes' to their games and has a reputation for rough releases. Plus they like complex crunch--leaning in where underlying system has it and adding weird crunch where inspirational system doesn't have enough mechanics crunch. Yay stacks of stuff. Yay multiplying things. All that lends to more buggy and imbalanced systems for a while; plus avoidable nerdy adjustment make-work for their devs (hey, job security, right?). So waiting a little more might be a good strategy for enjoyable experience?
A good side of this patch is that a replay should feel different :P I have not played it yet, so I expect it will be more challenging (hoping the first boss won't be impossible!).
I might do a second run in the future but honestly, I think the sheer number of fights feels a little overwhelming to get through. I miss the Wrath of the Rightous's ability to switch between turn based and real time combat, it made getting through easy encounters much faster. If I do another playthrough it will probably be after all the dlc have been released.
Waiting for the enhanced edition to release before playing, even though I already bought it. Still got BG3 and DOS2 to finish and WotR to replay first lol
Idk if it’s patched but the thunderfang restocks the shop in act 1. Idk what triggers it but I’ve gotten a bunch of medkits. Imma check if other shops restock
The number of geniuses howling about mods in every updated game is growing exponentially.
Hmm. Played it a bit on release. Could take another look after the hotfixes.
I bought this to support owlcat but I feel like the longer I wait to play it, the better the game will get. Imma give them time to cook.
I am holding off Rogue Trader as of now. Wil play when the dlc comes out in August. I do hope all the bugs, performance issues are fixed in this time.
So for blaster casters, Archmilitant is still the way to go?
The changes pretty much gut the officer class. I was playing as a Commissar Officer main, which sucks for me
Yeah, I am disappointed as well. I was playing Co-Op with a buddy and granting him extra turns was a lot of fun for both of us but I understand that it was very powerfull.
Yeah horrible. Sei,e the Initiative might as well be called never be used
Hopefully other stuff will be added back to the class to re-buff them with the DLC.
The changes were needed, though. Yrliet getting nearly infinite turns with all of the buffs and debuffs was just too good.
@@jesot I don't really see a problem with a class being "too good"? You can always just not play them, or not play them optimized. The problem are classes that are flat out bad. Like the pyromancer caster. I always hate seeing nerfs that completely gut classes because some min-maxers broke the math... in singleplayer games.
❤
i am so so so interested in this game but seeing how they did pathfinder ill wait for the goty. i play crpgs once or twice and that style doesnt vibe well with 4 staggered dlc released
Well as of right now its only 2 that are planned, first one is in August.
I suppose I will miss my Archmilitant Argenta being able to kill every encounter in one round, but I can't really say it was good for game health, so here's hoping my next playthrough will have a more balanced experience
Pyromancer build guide? C'monnn, you know you want to
Hope it works out for the DLC
I'm bad with the game but even i recognized the absolute power house of an officer build spamming extra rounds to his allies.
well guess time to restart :D but I think I might wait for the assasin dlc
Good luck getting out of ACT 3 on the hardest difficulty after this patch... (I gave up lol)
Were there any improvements to leveling up characters, such as auto-leveling companions or better organized talents? I didn't like that each level up was a tiring half-hour distraction.
They made some UI changes, but hard to say how impactful that will be for any one person
Rogue trader having issues with scaling, is rather appropriate as the tabletop rpg also had rather bad scaling issues.
What game is that intro screenshot from?
Did they fix the bug where an ability or attack just doesn't activate and you lose the AP or can't make another attack?
I put off Rogue Trade r4ight bow because in the final act(not to spoil it as much as possible) a glitch involving few enemies, reloading a save results in suddenly 35 enemies across the map. Whom are immune to damage or effects so I have been soft locked out of finishing the game. Which is a shame since that was 3 weeks ago
any news on bugged achievements...
Think these changes are right. Hopefully without nerfing excessively. But Cassia''s 4 figure stats were a bit much. 😂
Yeah the balance was kinda shit in this game. The most broken build i did was just operator + 3 officers + yrilet. Set up everything for yrilet with that 10 magazine capacity eldar rifle thingy, and he just kills EVERYTHING in 1 turn and does hillariously large damage numbers.
25 min after post and 1300~ views....your a force of nature!
Gronk!
they overnerfed the officer.
removing the additional turn totally kills the class flavor - its a weak ass bard now. rip 77hr officer campaign :(
Warhammer 40,000: Starch Maker
All these updates and such are neat, but I honestly just want the sword of faith psyker power to look cool rather than bodies hit the floor after swinging my normal-looking force sword around in the air.
can someone say if this game is good playable on console?
(will never run on my laptop)
@@user-ty6ei1kz8j i mean more the useability... like are the controls tricky?
"psyker path" (HAHAHA)
i'm going to abuse it
Is this worth playing on consoles? Specifically PS5
free comment.
I bought this game at release, but sat on it knowing that it would be rough around the edges. Perhaps it's finally time to dive in.
Noooo! I like having my OP assassin that just wipes everyone in the first round!
Huh, no wonder my pyromancer main character isnt doing damage worth a damn.
I'm playing as a sanctioner psycher on my first playthru. Then, I believe would be imortant changes.
great to see their dedication, but I'll wait the complete edition to really play it with all dlc. I want all the goth waifu! For the Emperor!
Honestly, I feel that owlcat has missed the mark with the balancing. Its a single player game, if your combat build is broken beyond repair, you built them that way. They should have included different perks to make different playstyles more viable, instead of making the ones available worse
I love Owlcat but I find this game a hard to play. It just seems to drag. And I am a huge fan of their Pathfinder series.
I will continue my practice of ignoring CRPGs for at least a year after release to make sure the game is actually finished before I play it. This game looks cool though!
Hope this game gets dlc!
Thinking of maybe getting the game now since its on quite a good sale but waiting a few more months for more stuff to get ironed out.
im waiting for the day they add more voice over. i think VO is good for all CRPGs like some of the comedy chars in POE2 but imagine how epic they could make some of the warhammer voice overs.
VO costs shitloads of money, especially for a game like Rogue Trader which has massive amounts of text - far more than POE2 or BG3, to compare it to others in the genre. Owlcat games are all incredibly heavy in the text department.
@@SilimSavertin oh i know, just seems like a missed opportunity when it comes to how epic warhammer factions would sound in a CRPG. granted it would be expensive. im hoping for a enhanced edition :D
Not a fan of dmg nerfs. Unfair 1shots are a thing so without clearing everything before they can act, it would get very tedious. Especially act 4 end battle.
9:58 what a madman
When are you going to review GRIM DAWN? The "big" patch has been out.
Is it stable yet? I used to play it years ago but the amount of crashing was insane
@@fullmetalalkami6466 runs good
