  • Frédéric Chopin's Allegro de concert, Op. 46, is a piece for piano, published in November 1841. It has a curious place in the Chopin canon, and while its history is obscure, the evidence supports the view, shared by Robert Schumann and others, that it started out as the first movement of a projected third piano concerto, of which the orchestral parts are either now non-existent or were never scored at all. There is no evidence that Chopin ever even started work on the latter two movements of this concerto.
Barbara Hesse-Bukowska (8 February 1930 - 9 December 2013) was a Polish pianist. Her family had a long-standing musical history, as her father was a violinist and conductor, her mother was a pianist and teacher, and her grandfather was a piano tuner. Her mother was her first teacher. Her subsequent teachers included Czesław Aniołkiewicz and, at the Warsaw Conservatory, Maria Glińska-Wąsowska.
Barbara Hesse-Bukowska (ur. 8 lutego 1930 w Łodzi, zm. 9 grudnia 2013 w Warszawie) - polska pianistka i pedagog, laureatka II nagrody na IV Międzynarodowym Konkursie Pianistycznym im. Fryderyka Chopina (1949).

You will have a hard time finding a performance with such ultra-precise precision and sensitivity. Barbara Hesse-Bukowska is undoubtedly the culmination of the most definitive and exclusive Chopin music I have heard in some time.
'One of the greatest pianists of our time' Thanks, David!

It was interesting to read about this supposedly first movement to a Third
Concert, which never came to be. Certainly an exciting composition as so
brilliantly performed by Barbara Hess-Bukowska. I feel enriched ~ thanks!

BHB has a natural feel for anything Chopin, including this remarkable composition. She imbues it with great romanticism and sensitivity. Not only does she follow Chopin's indicated score markings, she demonstrates her facile technique. Each run is articulated precisely and fits into an overall musical phrase. Natural romanticism flows and flowers in each phrase herein. Chopin has an endless collection of dramatic phrases, which when knitted together form another great work! Stunning display of deep musicianship and a vast grasp of the Romantic ideal! Thank you very much!!

Echt faszinierend!

A really fine surprise. A beautiful Allegro, which I imagine would have ended as a
gorgeous Concerto, had it been completed by Fryderyk Chopin. hk

Maybe not one of Chopin's great masterpieces, but beautiful nevertheless. And a fine and robust performance from Hesse-Bukowska.

I beg to differ: the only reason why this opus is not known and played as much as the other 2 piano concertos is the unfortunate fact that it remained a stub. Listen to the orchestrated version by Ingolf Wunder, one can clearly feel the potential of another beautiful piano concerto. It’s still beautiful, but that’s why we have a feeling that we’re missing something in it.
