  • Feb 2022; Southern Illinois. Join us for a short kapper vlog today as we join a couple of my buddies on one of their Southern Illinois farms as they are doing some stump and tree root clearing to create a new gravel pad. Today they are using my friend Aric's Jansen MB 300 backhoe, aka, Jansen mb-300 mini excavator, among other names. They are working on a new gravel pad expansion on his Southern Illinois farm. Let's see how the Jansen MB-300 does with pulling hardwood roots. Also, let's improvise a little since the mini excavator has enough hydraulic power to continually life the base of the unit, let's try to bring in a tractor loader for the assist! Improvising seemed to work and keep the base of the unit much more stable with the weight of the 45 hp compact tractor added for assistance! We'll also do a quick walk around of this unit and share a few thoughts about it. I am definitely going to stop down at Aric's farm and try this thing out if I get the chance! Thanks for joining us today, and as always if you enjoy this video please hit the thumbs up and leave us a comment and share some of your initial thoughts. Thank you. Cool little machine. Can definitely think of some useful applications for it.

OH yeah no doubt! This is a great, fairly affordable unit for any landowner! (Or lessee! :)

We used to sell portable backhoes like this back in the 1970's. These are impressive little low cost machines and can do the job(s) you want them too.
These are great for digging 'smallish' pipe line ditches, irrigation ditching, etcetera etcetera.

Very cool! I agree! So much you can do at an affordable (well it's all relative these days!) price.

@@kapperoutdoors Well you got a 'first hand' look at how effective these 'tools' can be.
As a note to any 'hobby shop welders ( like me ) out there, you can build one of these easily in your own shop. Look at it, it's not that difficult to build.

I have the same unit, however it came through Northern Tool. Jansen has been great for parts and support. I have three different buckets. That thumb looks useful too.

    • @kapperoutdoors
      @kapperoutdoors  2 года назад

First of all, I agree that a thumb is incredibly useful! Good to hear, yeah I can see a more 'affordable' unit like this really earning it's way over time on small projects that would otherwise be 'immense' with a couple of shovels! Cheers, thank you

@@kapperoutdoors I had a bigger backhoe mounted to an Allis Chalmers tractor. I’ve found the smaller more nimble unit more useful to me. Keep up the great videos.

I've had the exact same unit but sold by YTL International in the US. I've made a few mods...1- added larger wheel in the back, 2- added additional 4 In squared tubing in the front just belong the existing one to make it easiest to load ATV trailer 3- new 4 un squared in the back to give an alternate smaller width when I need to cross some of my bridge that are too narrow.. This summer I will be added a tooth, a thumb and riughly 300 lbs of weight at the back of the engines, Their is a learning curve how to take avantage of the hydraulic power...it has more power that the weight of the unit so it should permit more digging stability. Only problem until now is a broken joystick arm which I welded back. The easy part is most component can be serviced or replaced by any hydraulic shop...no electronic. Love the unit ...4000 CDN with 12 in and 24 in bucket.

Looks like you can remove the wheels and outriggers and it would fit through a standard doorway on a flatbed trolley , good for jobs bigger machines can’t get into 👍🍻

For anyone needing an excavator enough to buy one I’d think would do better finding a nice small used tracked one. Any kind of bind and this one was moving around. Just end up frustrating me….. but Better than a shovel.

Kap, you may be able to get one for the back of your tractor. I know my RK(TYM) 37hp has a backhoe attachment for it and is available up to the 55hp tractors for around $6600.

Yes they do make frame mountable and three-point mountable backhoes for tractors of many different sizes.
But keep in mind that the three-point mountable backhoes tend to break the tractors in half since they don't have enough structural support for that!
You can buy a subframe to turn any add on backhoe into a frame mounted backhoe.

I'm very shocked to see Kapper using something this small and underpowered since he has bigger and better machines to use.
Using towable diggers like that is really scraping the bottom of the barrel.
But if that's all that someone can afford then it's better than nothing. 😉

yeah, I'd say WAY better than a shovel! Them were hardwood roots, that's no easy task for any small machine! My e42 struggles with hardwood roots.
