For when you get going - try to keep the bottom plate of the bucket parallel to the grade you want to dig. I.e. don't use the bucket tilt to dig - use the boom and adjust tilt to get the grade you want. Goes so much faster. Also dig down by slicing several times when trenching instead of going to full depth at once. And if the dirt is wet - never fill the bucket all the way. The dirt stays put due to suction and you will have a quite hard time. Please ask me how often I have done that before I learnt :-)
down with the haters in the comment section. I love that little dude. it is healthy to have grown up toys, and that is more than a toy. but is fun to play with. I bet it makes one feel macho. there is no crime in feeling macho.
If you are lifting the rear wheels off the ground when trying to pull a tree root... back off because it CAN rip the bucket in half or cause other damage. It has the power... not the fluid flow rate for doing 2 things at once. Some people ugrade from the appx 1.6 cc pump to a 4.1 cc pump (fits with minor modification to the coupler and 2 pipe adapters) DO NOT increase the pressure setting of the relief valve as some videos tell people to do. It can already bend the cylinders at the factory setting. Increasing pressure will not speed it up.
This looks so satisfying. I want to get rid of bushes in my front yard and dig up the surrounding soil. This looks like it would work just find. Not sure about the roots from the bushes…if that would be a problem.
What type of hydraulic fluid did you use? The instructions only say to use a "good quality hydraulic fluid" but don't specify what type to use? Thank you in advance....
Does anyone know if they make a thumb for this be it mechanical or hydraulic. The other question I have is how much will the boom lift when keeping it close in other words could you lift up 8 ft long logs to hold it up so you can cut them with a chainsaw off the ground. I'm guessing it would need to be hooked to a truck as a counterweight
Yes there are a bunch of other videos of people with a mechanical thumb that they bought new on ebay for $160. The 16 year review video of a guy said it lifts 400-450lbs.
Very cool. I was just wondering how these gizmos move around. Just gotta pull yourself everywhere. What can you do about inclines? Does it try to roll away?
@John Doe conveniences is the driving force to modern living. The coast is great, but the demand is very high. You probably will want to run your furthest hydraulic lines through the boom so they aren't dangling around. Also the button thumb claw is a nice add on if your trying to grab onto things. ruclips.net/video/ZeU9vWWWGQI/видео.html Had some issues with mine but still did the job of removing bamboo that I was quoted $18,000 for the landscaping project.
@@TheGlassFamilyvlog I have about 7K in it. Just had to replace the water pump last weekend and I had the head rebuilt a couple years ago. It's not exactly portable though. Just musing that it would take a month of Sundays to dig out the stumps I do with something like that machine there. It's a maintenance nightmare but it's paid for itself.
I’m much faster with it now that I’ve got used to digging. I can dig a 6’x6’ that is 4’ deep In around 30 mins. By hand it takes me around 4 hours. So it’s definitely much faster 🤷🤦♂️ Also my back doesn’t hurt afterwards lol
@@JohnDoe-es5xh All you guys up there in alaska are hella tough. I bey y'all are tougher than any body from Australia. I think guys move to alaska to show everyone how tough and manly they are. I definitely don't need one of these. Definitely getting one soon.
From now on every project you're going to ask is there anyway I can use the backhoe to do it? lol
At least you remembered to wear your steel toe flip flops. Safety first !

Good looks!
Great, now I want one, lol. Endless possibilities for that little backhoe.

Pretty awesome!
This is fun. I’m betting more work can be done, faster, with more practice.
Helpful for folks who want to save their back for some projects.
I needed to know this, thanks
Hello, could you please provide information about the dimensions of the 3 hydraulic pistons you use? Thank you.
I'd love to see someone bolt/weld this to an old beater flatbed like a single cab F150 or something.

taking a gas backhoe out to plant a little 3 gallon pot... kinda overkill but im here for it
I mean I bought the dang thing so I’m looking for ways to use it 😂

Hi. I am looking at buying one of these. I know you can't tow it on the road, but after assembled, can it fit in the bed of a pickup truck?
This will definitely not fit in the bed of a pickup. You can haul it on a highway as long as you do not go over 55mph.
Big boys with little toys
Looks like you'd have to anchor it to dig in the hard desert dirt
Very cool. I was just wondering how these gizmos move around. Just gotta pull yourself everywhere. What can you do about inclines? Does it try to roll away?
I’m seriously considering one of these. I wonder how it would do in Oklahoma red clay. Has anyone used one of these in sticky hard clay?
I think it would do ok. It has the power just not sure if the bucket strength holding up.
Good info. Thanks for the feedback. I might just stick with renting excavators.
How deep a trench can it make? I need to replace my waterline from the well and it's down 5 feet and 100 feet from the house.
I want to say 5ft is max. It gets awkward a bit at the depth to maneuver and see your bucket.
Besides boom reach, geology might not allow more than a few feet.
nice
Wearing shower shoes to operate equipment ?
Digging shovel faster?
But a lot less fun
There were times, when we did this work with our own body force. lol
Go watch my other channel Adventure Archaeology. We dig 10-15ft deep holes by hand often.
People use to walk across the country too...

Steel Toe flip flops actually. They are all the rage!

I busted off laughing at how you moved it.
Wth was that….like come on i can come up with a better design im a second.
Caster wheel hooked to a hydraulic just like bucket keep it hooked too atv?

How big are those trees going to get?
5-6ft we will trim them into bushes
The 2 joy sticks is so much better. Once lurned be quicker.
This guy is operating equipment wearing shower flaps….brave.
The insurance on my toes is worth it 🤷♂️😂
LOL. How much did that cost? I can make a hole 3X that size in 4 seconds with an old 555.

Is Harbor Freight selling Hair Pieces too?😛
All natural……. It’s usually the guys with no profile picture that like to say something though.
Scratch the sod off first. Then dig your hole.
As someone who has mature trees near my pool, I can confidently say you will one day regret your decision to plant those.
Yah that’s my fear. These are blueberry bushes so we hopefully can keep them trimmed down.
Can you modify this?
I don’t see why not. You buy it so use and modify how you want!
About the same rate of digging as with garden shovel by hand.

@Drewhio92 Bingo
But the little backhoe can do it all day and not get tired...
Running equipment in flip flops?
Heck Ya! OSHA loves me!
please, get some work boots.
I don't want one of these!
I want two. It would be fun to invite friends to my place and have digging contests.
The basic construction of it looks really weak . it's made in China what else is there to say
Too small to be used to build any meaningful holes.
Too big to justify not just using a shovel.
I used one to dig 300 ft of 2 ft deep trench... (one of many projects)
I'd much rather use the power tool.
@@fhuber7507 Does it have enough power to dig hard pan clay/ dirt to 2ft?
DONT GET ONE OF THESE- you will spend hours and back breaking work, just to switch to tow to work and back again - that is a days work
It takes ten minutes to switch from tow to work mode and vice versa
$3500 online order only in most areas.
So not to Alaska?
Alaska needs stronger stuff, because soil is almost frozen.
