me trying to figure out how to realign the dual-cam pulleys that shifted when I removed the timing belt, shifted due to the pressure of the valve springs
Just loosen the main caps in sequence exactly how the book says it simply turn it with your hand to where it's supposed to be and then tighten in the same sequence as it says in the book... Give the motor 2 to,6 rotations checking your marks every two rotations if they're still good by the sixth roll with it
I did. The manual shows how they're supposed to be oriented when lined up... it took a lot of grunting and adjusting but we eventually got the H-shaped tool onto the pulleys, and after that it was a breeze. Of course, the 'trick' is to get the tool on the pulleys before removing the belt, but when you get a 'new' used engine, well... there are times when ya just don't have a choice to use the tool properly.
Take off valve cover, the end of the cam shaft. ,Has a slot in each cam ,using a flat bar, to hold the rear of the cam's into place. Adjust crank mark ,install t-belt.Done.
There's a tool for that, shaped like a capital H, with the cross member being a double threaded bolt which the sides of the H screw down onto. You put the tool on the cams before removing the old belt, if possible, and tighten it up so that the valve springs don't rotate the cams when the belt is removed. If you've got a broken belt , you'll have to have someone help you get the cams into position to receive the tool. Live and Learn :D (shoulda made a video of the solution, sorry)
I'm ready to tear my hair out. A kid I know toasted his Protege very badly. I got a head from a junk yard and had it surfaced. However, the yard removed the cam sprockets so all I had was the intake and exhaust cams left in the head. No problem I thought. I just popped the sprockets off the old head and placed them aside. I knew which was the intake and exhaust because I had marked them with white paint so I could read them clearly when it came time to align them. When i went to reinstall them on the replacement head, as i turned them over to find the hole that locates the pin on the cam, I was surprised to find that there is not one hole, but a V groove on each sprocket, which allows in essence two positions on each sprocket. I freaked and went back to my old cam and found what I believed was the correct position on each based on a 'clean spot' on the old cams, but honestly, I'm not sure. Anyone out there have any advice .. Preferably experience as to which pin hole on each i should be using? Thx!

so did you ever get the answer on how to align the cams with crankshaft i was replacing the water pump and both my cams moved like youres did the i cam for you so how did you align them back up i did buy a tool to keep them from moving when i figure out how to aling them back up
the 2 pulleys on the top match but the Camshaft pulley mark doesn't match with the dimple and the engine mark how to align the bottom camshaft pulley with the 2 pulleys on the top
They don't match because they weren't lined up yet - couldn't be lined up without the belt holding them in place. Needless to say, I got it done 7 years ago, still running today. :)
You mean the crank pulley? Line the two cam pulleys up how they're supposed to be, lock in place with a cam tool. rotate crank until it's where it's supposed to be. slip belt on all three then remove the cam tool. Unless I'm misunderstanding something?
JT - Yes, I do think you’re right. Especially us guys who may be a little older than a lot of these younger people who aren’t getting the Bible like we did. I don’t mean to annoy you. I was just on here looking at your video because my son has a problem with his Honda Accord. He broke the serpentine belt and messed up his motor. I just know there was a time in my life when I was afraid of dying, because I wondered where I would go after I died. But then I had a life changing experience with Jesus, and found out that he was a real man who died on the cross and rose again. Because of that, I’m not afraid of dying anymore and I believe I’m going to heaven when I die. I believe He can do that for you too.
I’m not afraid of being dead - being atheist, and having history of not existing - as everyone does - going back to that is fine. I think I’d get bored after living for several quadrillion lifetimes of entire universes - But, maybe if God exists - he’ll forgive my honesty and figure out how to keep me from being bored for ETERNITY. Turn your crank a to 3:00 the your pistons will be in the middle. Re align your cams then your crank

Hi, do you turn your crank to 3:00 with the t-belt off? In my case rear cam is out of alignment to TDC by about 90 degrees.
Take the valve cover off and loosen the retainers for the cams in sequence, line them up, then tighten them back down in sequence.
I think they have a pretty cool tool called ,=Dual cam locking tool available from Amazon and pretty sure from your Neighborhood store part!!

got to get both of them to the marks and then vice grip them together and then set your belt that's what I did

it's a Hanes manual - you'll have to search to find if they have one for your make/model.
those motors are a pain in the ass i just did my klze it has the same idea just a v6 so had to do it both sides
