Thank you I needed a refresher. How many inches down do you start your hat design?

You’re welcome! Inches down from the top of the hat? If so, it all depends on the size and shape of the design and what kind of hat I’m embroidering.

Too bad I don't have family that wear hats be because I definitely would buy one of these. Still maybe. Thanks for the demo. It was awesome.

It works so well! I’m selling my 10 needle and that was the only thing I thought I’d miss until I got this. Thanks for watching Diane!

Thank you for this video. I just purchased a Durkee hat hoop for my Babylock Aerial. This was very helpful. I have a question when you embroider hats on your Solaris what speed do you have your machine set to? Thank you

Hello! I’m so glad the video helped you. I bump my speed down by a couple hundred and watch it. If I have breakage, I slow it down more. It has a lot to do with what type of hat your embroidering, how it’s been configured in the hoop and so on. Once you have your hat situated in the hoop you’ll find it quite simple!

i see this has been up for 3 years but is there a limit to the type of hat you can use? i.e. structured vs unstructured? number of panels? i have the solaris, and a 12 needle commercial machine, but i am selling the 12 needle. (too little use and not enough space anymore) so for the few trucker hats, need to know if it's going to be a strain on the solaris or just put in a heavier needle?

Good question. My experience is that with more structured hats, ie flat billed, you will have difficulty and it will stress your Solaris; needle size is irrelevant in this case. I had a 10 needle also and made all my trucker hats on it. So, you may want to see if you can try a Durkee hoop at a dealer and see what you think, but my hat making days are quite limited without my 10 needle and hat hoop. I don’t regret selling it, however, due to its size and cost.

DID YOU EVER TAKE A CLASS WITH MIKE ABOUT THE DURKEE HOOP?

Are you referring to Mike Johns? No, but he is one of our other Educators at Baby Lock.

Can you tell me where I can find these hats? I have the hoop and bought a hat but I think the hat is too thick. I broke a needle.

Would have been a much better video if you had shown hat being hooped.
