Not a very budget friendly build. More for the beginner who has $2500 with this live stock included. Would love to see a nice looking $500.00 tank (including a few corals). Is that even possible these days without it looking like something picked up at a yard sale? Regardless, it's a nice looking tank, and great video. Good job Matthew.
1300 for tank rock and sand from brs. But I know what you're sayin. Currently setting up a 60 gal breeder which is gonna cost less than this and it's gonna be 3 times the size.
If you are in Canada or I think USA….frag box offers the reef casa line of aio at reasonable prices specifically to make things simple and affordable for beginners.
I was considering my first saltwater tank. Thankfully I found this guy who 100% convinced me to stick to freshwater 😅 talk about giving an aspirin a headache lol. Ever ideal I had just faded & said nah.. that sounds like a second job.
I am 6 months in with the Red Sea Max Peninsula. Wave maker Nero 3 works very well and installed on rear sump. Very minimal footprint. Fish 2 clown, 2 Atlantic Bass and 1 Neon Goby. Lightning 19k 70% blue and 20% white. 5 torches, 3 hammer, Trachy, Acan, 5 Chalices, 2 soft, 2 sps w/birds nest. The system works as advertised but definitely stay on top of your water parameters. Good clean up crew and copepods recommend. ATO if you can upgrade. The cabinet is good and functional w/installed multiple 9” shelves, LED lighting strip w/controller ect… Note: I had some failures figuring out a good peaceful habitat fish combination. I run without a top cover but not advised. Always enjoy the videos.
I’ve pretty much learned everything from you and the rest of the BRS team. Keep up the awesome videos! One video I haven’t seen anywhere is how to actually add chaeto algae to a refugium? I’ve made 2 attempts in mine and both times my chaeto has just died… any tips or know if a good video? Like do you need to acclimate it? Ideal water parameters? Add with light or no light for a while?
The tank is perfect for someone starting out on their reef journey and if you are experienced then kicking off with cycled biomedia is also perfect. I am not convinced someone starting out can replicate this set up and if they put in both fish and corals from day 1 without the experience, cycled bio media etc etc then it could have a speedy ending. Enjoyed the video and get where you are coming from but what happened to being patient, taking your time and adding livestock slowly. Should come with a health warning as perfect tank for beginner but not how to set up a tank for the first time
Oh, we totally agree with you. These Garden Series videos are there to offer inspiration to beginners. We recommend all beginners watch the extensive series Matthew made on our other channel. I think there are over 50 episodes in all for that one series!
I made it through the ugly phase, but then got nailed with bryopsis and Gha again. I’m 3 weeks into fluxrx and some manual removal, it’s finally starting to clear up. 🤞🏽while that’s discouraging, videos like this one Re-excite me.
Hey Matt, thanks for the comment. Yes, that would be discouraging, but know you are not alone and every new hobbyist has to go through these things. Just keep learning and tackling problems as they arrive and you'll come out the other side for sure!
@@tenchi144love your videos. What is the wifi strip you are using? Could you elaborate more about that? How does that actually work? Are you just able to turn each plug on and off through an app? Or do you need to use certain gear to be able to control on the app?
@@jlozano2615 I think the sizes will be 6, 12, 18 and 24 gallon, all getting slightly taller, the idea with them is to be able to package everything u need inside the tank so shipping it out is easy, design is by March and Tia at FragBox Corals so u can see more on their RUclips channel 🥰👊
@@jlozano2615 yes bigger tanks I guess u are better off going for aqua one maybe for budget friendly, or redsea if u want to spend the money, I think for first time reefers is great to have the smaller budget friendly tanks because even the smaller aqua one systems get quite expensive, especially when u realise h need to “upgrade” the equipment because it’s not really up to the standard u wanted on a bigger tank 🤷♂️😊
@@BRStv thanks, I really think they are a great option, the filtration chamber sizes were bigger than most other all in one systems from memory (waterbox and fluval evo etc) so bigger return pumps and skimmers should all be easy to fit, March has also been working on cabinets for them but I think he said they won’t be ready till maybe feb 2023 🤔 but will be worth keeping an eye on especially for ppl in Canada and USA that won’t need to pay as much for shipping as others in the world 🥰
Hey thanks your videos have been so helpful ! 👍🏼 Appreciate all the info. In the close future can you make a video (or direct me to one) that focuses on the protein skimmer .. specifically this redsea max nano skimmer. Since your focusing on it being a beginner friendly system I have tried to dial it down myself but have had a hard time on really knowing what it's supposed to look like. For example to much foam not enough... or the water level being to high to low exc. Hopefully its in your plan to focus on this for us novices🥴 Once again appreciate all the info ... ⚓️
Thanks for the comment. While not specific to that skimmer, Matthew made a great video on how to tune a protein skimmer. ruclips.net/video/DTnWhORaCCU/видео.html
Tough choice! The Nuvo 40 is roughly double the volume of the Max Nano, so it's more about the size aquarium you're looking to set up when comparing those two tank sizes.
@@BRStv how about something that’s been recommended for beginners for awhile like 40 gallon tank. Correct me if I am wrong but the idea of brstv is for new people to be successful and want to advance. I’ve watched many video many hours. The title is misleading. If you handed a new person this video and said good luck chances are they will fail hard. Maybe this should be titled best beginner tank for advanced reef keeping simple. From what I’ve watched from brstv would not start with that small of tank.
Good job 👍 My perfect beginner tank would be a pair of clowns and a few long polyp softies After a year or so once matured drop in a beautiful bubble tip anemome and add a decent light
"All you need is an existing tank, 14 corals to choose from, thousands of dollars, and 38 products!" Forreal I'm with the others who said this made me want to stick to freshwater....
My daughter desperately wants a clownfish reef tank but I had no idea it would cost thousands. Mind blown. Cant spend my entire monthly pay for a tiny tank.
Other than the tank everything done in this video is from another tank that’s been set up and running. This is in no way a beginner guide other than just showing you what a tank cut look like if you had access to water, sand, corals and fish and you didn’t have to worry about going out and buying some thing and making sure it wasn’t going to die but if you already have the fish the water in the sand, then you’re not a beginner does not make any sense terrible video
They should let you know that for it has a potential to be a good product that that killed a whole bunch of fish for me so used with caution or better yet don’t use
For beginners, freshwater mixed with red sea coral pro salt. That will set it up. Again, if you add stability and prime, you can pop fish right in, and that has happened with all my fish without fail. Many people add in bacteria and all these liquids to "cycle," but I guess everyone has their preference. Protein skimmer not needed for the first month because you wanna get those nitrates and phosphates to a normal level anyways. After that, having a basic filter, a fan (heater depending on where you are, but I need a fan), a couple of dry rocks (yo udon't have to do overkill in terms of what he does in the video...that's just too much), and by the way, you don't even need RODI water. Get freshwater and mix on your own. ZOAS are great but make sure you don't have pests attached or you'll have to get a peppermint shrimp, which will do the job momentarily, but if you get an elegance coral or anything on the sandbed, he'll just walk all over it and destroy it. Lol. ZOAS and brainy corals and a couple clowns, can even put them in a 5-8 gallon tank with NO ISSUES. To have two fish in a 20 gallons is an absolute waste
Why are you Americans so obsessed with cycling your tanks??? This is 80‘s style and does not give any advantages over starting asap with corals and then later fish. But of course it is better to grow lots of algae first 😂

Look into a Reef Casa tank with everything u need from rocks and sand and salt plus a light etc etc 👊🍻😉

Love all the information in this video. I’m starting up a Red Sea Max e170 for my first tank so the similarity to the nano was helpful.

Great video, informative. I’m new and wanting to get a tank and I’m looking at Red Sea e170 or im Nuvo 40. Both seem to be similar
I love my nuvo 40
1 million % agree with balanced lighting. Excessive blue tanks just turn me off and feel like they wash out some colors.

Love the idea of velcro versus drilling into the stand! Where did you purchase the velcro?
I believe I saw a bunch in Walmart in the crafts area, if not I'm pretty sure lows or home depot will have it
Actually just picked some up on amazon, I believe they call it hook and latch tape, or something similar.

REEF CASA has THE BEST all in one beginner friendly tanks that have the option to come with EVERYTHING YOU NEED! 👌🥰❤️🔥🔥🔥

I just set up my 26 gal penninsula saturday!
Yes, how exciting!!
Could you make a video on how to set up the filter on the back?
I want to make a 20gallon nano tank to put on top of my desk
We'll add it to Matthew's list!
💯 T5 lights only.
Have you posted a follow up on this tank?
Should you glue corals to rock ?
How is this remotely for beginners.
