This 'Nutbush City Limits' song was the audition song for AC/DC's Brian Johnson after Bon Scott died in February 1980. Brian loved this song and chose this song for his audition. I never thought of Bob Seger sounding a little like AC/DC but he kind of does here. I casually like AC/DC and of course love Bob Segar so thought I would share that fun fact. Also note, Brian was 33 and living in his parents basement when he auditioned for AC/DC in March 1980. He recorded 'Back in Black' in April 1980 in just 6 weeks - the second best-selling album in music history. So .. it is NEVER too late to create .. but you have to try. All the best to all of you.
That's the exact comment I made on another post of this same song. Yes, it would've been great to see the two do this together when she was still with us. RIP Tina Turner. Great song.
The last time Bob was in OKC my wife tried to surprise me & my sons with tickets. But she bought some real crappie tickets. When we got there they had closed that section. They gave us sets right next to the stage. When Bob came over to the side where we were sitting. I could almost reach out and shake Bob's hand. I almost didn't go, but I had one of the best times of my life. I always wanted to see Bob in concert, he song this song.
@@janielee7188this song WAS written by Tina Turner in 1973 as a memorial to her home town. It was one of the last songs that she and Ike performed together. Yes, I thought it was a Bob Seger original, too!
First time I saw Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band they opened for KISS and BLEW THEM OFF THE STAGE ! Then it was the Night Moves concert and then The Derby Eve Jam with Wolfman Jack . Always a tight band and ROCKED YOUR ASS OFF ! PK
This man is absolutely amazing! Can't wait til 9/9/17 to see him! His first time playing Pine Knob since 1996! His talent is truly amazing. I saw him in 1987 at Joe Louis and I've seen him guest at Kid Rock's concert. He is awesome on stage and off. I'm proud to live in the same state with this Royal Musician Rock God!
Well that my friend is a true Bob Seger moment. It was about that time 15 years ago, I sent my son with his dad to see Seger. My son is in the military and a Bob Seger nut.. It's cool to hear him play Night Moves and Main Street and others on his Acoustic. Cool
Saw Bob Seger at the Hammersmith Odeon in London in 1977. I went with friends, I'd never heard of him. He did NCL. Blew my f****** socks off. I adore Tina but this comes awful close.
Thanks for putting this up. Long time no hear. Oddly he sounds a little like Tina Turner only in man, ha! I saw Seeger in concert years and years ago. Great stuff, still sounds good.
Deborah, please check out Bob's first live album,"LIVE BULLET". Live versions of Bob's early recordings and some of his best songs ever, before he became a pop star.
My Daddy was also born in Nutbush Tn 0n hwy 19 between Brownsville and Ripley he use to tell us he rode the school bus with Tina Turner but she had a different name , her real name is Anna Mae Bullock I think .
You are still my high priest and King and physician. I'm waiting with our grandson who is functioning but lost his memory also and your son and my son is still in bed sick.

On this day in 1976 {May 30th} Bob Seger's covered version of "Nutbush City Limits" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #84; the following week it would be at #73, then on its 3rd and 4th week on the chart at moved to #69, that would be its peak position on the Top 100 and its 4th week on the chart was its last... Between 1968 and 1991 he had thirty-two Top 100 records; seven made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Shakedown" for one week on July 26th, 1987... He just missed having a second #1 record when "Shame on the Moon" peaked at #2* {for 4 weeks} on February 20th, 1983... Robert Clark Seger celebrated his 70th birthday twenty-four days ago on May 6th {2015}... * The first week "Shame on the Moon" was at #2 on the Top 100, the #1 record was "Baby, Come to Me" by Patti Austin with James Ingram; and for its 2nd, 3rd, & 4th week at #2 "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson was in the top spot for those three weeks...
I'm going to Nutbush City tomorrow just to spite this song!!! Don't know how I'm getting there but I'm going and don't none of you all tryin stop me!! Like to see ya try cuz its almost 11 pm and tomorrow is in an hour and I'm in South Florida!!! And I do mean south!!! South of Ft Lauderdale!!!! I'm walking out the door just as soon as I grab a beer a cigarette and my GPS cuz I don't have the slightest clue where the he'll Nutbush City is!!! But I'ma unna find it!!! I hope its nice enough for me to set up shop!! He repeats its name a bunch of times in the song so that's a sign that its a pretty nice place to go to!! Lol!! Any of y'all out there live in the city of Nutbush City out there read this be looking for a 6'4" Yankee driving a 1962 Cheverolet with Florida tags on it (ya know how How's from Bonanza wore a 10 gallon hat? Well I wear a 15 gallon hat!!) So don't be shy now and come on up and make yourself known and maybe we'll go have some flapjacks and percocet! (I hope y'all. Have plenty of Percocet! Or Loricet or anything that ends in the letters 'codone!!) Nothin like flapjacks and Percocet to start your day off!!! Thank God for modern chemistry!!
I put both versions in my Tina playlist. It would've been great for them to do a duet version! But the "Live Bullet" version is better.. thanks for the upload!
I didn’t know that when Brian Johnson auditioned for AC/DC, he sang “Nutbush City Limits”. Did AC/DC ever record this song? If they didn’t, they should have. It’s that good.
who came out with this song 1st? Both versions are great and I grew up listening to Bob Seger and don't recall hearing this before? Just listened to Tina Turner version and thought it rocked also and I don't listen to Tina Turner.
What a great song, written by Ike and Tina and done brilliantly by Bob here, and even better on the 'Live Silver Bullet' album, but nothing comes close to the original. Catch Ike and Tina's original video, it'll knock your spots off.

Tina... God rest your soul.
Gotta wonder what Tina thought of this! With her rocker's soul, I'll bet she dug it! RIP to the true Queen of Rock! What a woman.
