I have recently purchased a 2017 Smart Fortwo Passion coupe (453) and was looking for a brake replacement video. Needless to say I like everyone else here in the comment section am very appreciative of your well documented write up of this and of course I have also liked and subscribed. Thank you very much, my friend!
@@benzlick this has made my Christmas! Thank you thank you thank you for the support. If the rain I. The UK stops soon I have four videos I need to do. Rear brake shoes replacement. Head lamps and reg plate lamps plus suspension refurb.
This was very helpful! Thank you. I used a small bungee cord instead of a zip tie, and was able to gently unwedge the brake line from where it mounted to the metal (there were a couple thick washers) so I wasnt hitting it with my socket wrench. Also, I left the old pad in when I was using the g glamp to squish the piston down, it made a better platform than just an edge of the piston. Other than the 3 trips to hardware stores and no one having the pads in stock making my ill fitting ebay ones a major setback, it went smooth!
Thank you. I have the 71 ps Version. And they delivered me the internally ventilated disks . I Realized it, when all the stuff has been removed. And the Order was 2 Jears ago 😂
@@smarte.r.1450Thanks for the tip of Amazon. Im a power shopper, but with Referenze to car Parts, I ordered in Safari. A mistake, Now I see, Amazon will deliver tomorrow. Where I ordered next week 😂 sorry . My english is Bad .

Thank you very much for such a nice video! I have a question: does it make a difference between installing ventilated or compact discs? in your opinion, which are best and does the car takes both options?
Thanks for taking the time to appreciate .. It really means a lot. So, vented discs will generally perform better as they dissipate the heat caused through friction. I think a standard disc on the 453 are vented like the ones in this video. In fairness it’s not a fast car and not heavy so the positive difference in fitting “drilled” discs and performance pads would make minimal impact. Hope that helps and makes sense. 😉
@@smarte.r.1450 thank you for your answer :) I understand the benefits of ventilated discs vs compact but I am also wondering since the ventilated are a bit thicker will they fit well as the compact discs? if a car has compact discs installed, is it possible to replace them with ventilated ones? and if I may say something in your favour regarding that "small" bolting issue of yours.. I believe the engineers could have done a better job if they had added an extra 5mm to that bolt circle diameter so that the securing bolts and wheels bolts would not be on the same bolting circle.. just that would avoid that installation mistake.. anyway it was a good job overall, with many good tips along the way :)
@@ruiandrade2754 how very kind. The car does come with “vented” discs as standard on the 453 range so I’m not sure what’s happened there. So it absolutely should fit vented discs.
@@smarte.r.1450 I think you'll find the standard smart fortwo comes with a solid disc, but the turbo 453 and all smart forfours use the ventilated disc.
Laughing how it takes a few knocks to get the wheel off. They are always like that, stuck on. I put some copper slip on so I know the wheels will come off if i have a puncture. i do carry a spare wheel. As for the 453 discs they are very poor, I even got an advisory on my very first MOT at under 8000 miles and it said Nearside and Offside Front Brake discs worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened. now that's really bad for a first MOT.

I can’t remember if I put copper grease on the hun base on the 453 I know I did on the other 451s.
Yes Halfords do like to charge. Lol
