JF-17of Pakistan is the WINNER. It is relatively recent Fighter Jet, in joint development and production between Pakistan and China, for about 20 years. While F-16 is carried over from R&D carried out in 1960s and 70s, with over 60 years, a very old fighter jet, but JF-17 has caught up very quickly in such short span, and continues to evolve. JF-17 is a lower cost jet with lower operation cost as compared to F-16 but in many scenarios JF-17 is better. JF-17 can conduct missions deep into the enemies territory because of its range (1200KM) and on the other hand F-16 can only be operated in approx 600KM range. no comparison between a world most successful medium size F-16 vs a modest light weight fighter. JF17 is a decent and promising fighter drawing its inspiration from a bigger better F-16 and that's pretty much it.
If you taking about technology or THE radar. Jf-17 has better radar and technology, it is newer. it provides better range, target detection, and the ability to track multiple targets at the same time even though the F-16 is more reliable. But the f-16 has a more powerful engine (Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 or General Electric F110-GE-129), which provides better performance, acceleration and maneuverability. It can carry a wide range of weapons and has a higher payload capacity.

Your comparison on the F-16 figures is a combination of truth and falsehood. Firstly just like the Wikipiedia slander of al the JF17 Thunder blocks (1,2and3) having the same service ceiling and top speed is a total falsehood. The empty weight of the block 1 and 2 Thunder are written correctly as 7965 while t-e Block 3 variant using composites in many areas is 6411 Kg, a wiki slander and also a 19.5% slander in this RUclips video. As for the engine thrust which was kept in secrecy with many presuming the 10 Kn Chinese WS13E engine fitted as Russia for some reason did not give the improved RD93 MA engine which they did later on with an improved 2090 pounds thrust over the older ,1866 pounds thrust of the plain RD93 engine. A difference of 12% increase in power! So while the ceiling of the older blocks was 55400 feet yet higher than the 50,000 feet service ceiling of the 400 million $ F22 Raptor.. So The JF17 block3 with a 19.4℅ lighter airframe and 12℅ more thrust power the service ceiling of the Block 3 Thunder is actually 66,000 feet! while the F-16 has a ceiling of around 57000-58000 feet, and the 400 $ million Raptors is only 50,000 feet some 5000 feet lower than the block 1and 2 Thunder and some 16000 feet below the block 3 Thunder! While a layman understands things like power to weight ratio in an aircraft has real different facts that are real crucial factors affecting service ceiling and top speed. These factors are aerodynamic parasite drag that increases by the square root and also the size of the supersonic shock bow waves formed on the wings and fuselage at high Mach numbers. So to explain in an easy to understand manner imagine a pin flying through the air, and a thick marker flying through the air. I would like to say something quite shocking, that is that the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter with a 16000 pounds thrust engine (Even lesser than the 1866pounds of thrust of the JF17 Thunder Block 1) thrust engine reached high speeds of Mach 2.2 in 1954, in fact the first fighter aircraft to reach and cross the dreaded Mach 2 speed. and set a record height of 103,395 feet in 1959, At the beginning of space. Also please note that the F104 Starfighter had one of the worst power to weight ratio of around 0.54 compared to the F22's best of 1.1 but the F22 has only a service ceiling of 50,000 feet! Why? Like I said before power to weight ratio is not the crucial factor that is power to drag ratio and also the size and magnitude of the supersonic shock bow waves. The F-35 has the most powerful single engine thrust engine of 43000 pounds with a ceiling close to 60,000 feet.. Like I said imagine a pin flying through the air and a fat marker at high speeds. The F104 was widely called a missile flying through the air with wings as an afterthought. I'll give more insight about the brilliant F104 after the end of this article. The F104's wings were only 1 inch thick where the ailerons were attached so the supersonic shock waves were of much lesser magnitude than an F16. An F16 carries some 7000 pounds of fuel mostly in the wings making them much thicker and hence very high magnitude supersonic shock waves also the wingspan of a F104 was 21 feet + while the F16 is 31 feet with also a thicker frontal area fuselage again meaning much reduced supersonic shock waves. When an aircraft is flying at 9 times faster than the stall speed the aircraft produces some 81 times more drag (9x9=81) and that also with the much larger supersonic shock waves. That is why the F,104 flew at 103,385 feet! Well higher than an F-16 and much higher than the most powerful F35 with a 43000 pounds thrust engine. Yet the F104 had only a 16000 pounds thrust engine and one of the worst thrust to weight ratios of 0.54. While this video is really a comparison between a JF17 Thunder and an F-16 and not an F104 which I mentioned because of how drag affects performance. The wing area of a JF17 Thunder is only 263 square feet while that of the F-16 is 300 square feet and slightly thicker wings to carry more fuel for the bigger engine. So at 9 times the stall speed the F,16 is using all that power of 81 times over a much bigger wing drag area and supersonic shock waves while the 263 square feet area (300 sq. feet F16)of the thunder and slimmer wings with smaller supersonic shock waves makes the aircraft climb to a much higher service ceiling of 66,000 fee vs. 56"000 to 58,000 of the F16.The top speed of the Thunder is Mach1.8 to Mach 2, very close to the F16. Here I would also like to say that in the 2019 Paris Air Show a French made Rafael climbed as high as that could and tried to impress. The Pakistani RUclips commentator was using the wrong terminology of figures but yet the lighter powered Jf17 Block 2 with the lesser 1866 pounds thrust engines reached almost double the height of the Rafael having the anchors eyes popping out! The aircraft was piloted brilliantly by the PAF's Wing Commander Zeeshan By Providence. The service ceiling in most articles of a Rafael is 50,000 feet and in Wikipedia mentioned as 52,000 feet. So in terms of ceiling and top speed the JF17 is much higher in the ceiling and just about as fast in top speed. Now lets talk about BVR (beyond visual range) missiles. The PinYin missiles of the JF17 Thunder have a 300 km range with the brilliant Chinese engineers working to increase that to around 400 km. In contrast the best USA BVR AAMRAM missile have a 150 km range and the French meteor missiles also have a 150 km BVR range. As far as the radar goes only the 2023 F16's have an AESA radar while conventional radars were used in the 2022 F16 had no AESA radar so when they used the conventional radar that would give the position game away letting everyone know where the F16 was. As far as a better instantaneous rate of turn of the French Rafael primarily due to the larger wing area well that is negated by a Thunder with a helmet mounted gun sight borrowed from the top Chinese J20 stealth fighter. All the Thunder pilot has to do is to turn his/her head 30-35 degrees left or right get the aircraft in the helmet gun sight locked on and fire the missile. Due to space limitations I'm ending this article but like I mentioned at the end I'd like to say a few things for which the F104 was wrongly blamed for. This was because the F104 was a high speed aircraft and was not meant to be was used for deck level flying ordered by the USAF to the German Luftwaffe. True the small wing area meant a high wing loading meaning stability but the high speed aircraft made dangerous overcorrections near the ground thus killing 115 Luftwaffe pilots mainly due to bird strikes at those deck level altitudes. The F104 was given the wrong name of "WIDDOW MAKER" for compelling the aircraft to do slow deck level flights that wasn't certainly designed for. The aces of aces Erich Von Hartman with 352 aerial victories compared with 42 of the top US ace Richard Bong and was only 22 years old when WW2 ended. He was retired from his post as a major in the Luftwaffe by the USAF as he was vehemently opposed to these dangerous low level suicide like flights of the F104.. Another thing about the F104 is that was famous that the plane would bank but hardly turn. That is because the lift vector is at 90 degrees to the wings and with such short small wings, the wings gave out a very small turn vector. That really didn't matter because the plane was designed as a high speed fighter interceptor to speed along to the enemy target and fire the AIM-9 sidewinder missiles and fly away as the plane was not meant to be a dog fighter, but rather a high speed missile firing interceptor. Just like the F35 stealth fighter, the naval version being stressed to only 7.5 G's not giving that any real dogfighting capabilities. The USAF pilots also do not like the touch functions on the 200.15$ F-35 preferring the F-16 viper’s toggle switches to the F-35 touch screen which works only 80% of the time.
Ha Ha Ha. This JF 17 Blunder's figures are all fudged. This fighter will never participate in any war exercises because it will expose all its uselessness. Even in the Dubai air show you can see this fighter can't even turn or climb vertically with no weapons or empty weight comparing to the Tejas & they are comparing it with F 16, Rafales & Gripens. This fighter will not have a combat radius of more than 600 Kms with fully loaded weapons. I doubt it will even dare to climb near or above 50000 feet with weapons loaded. Neither the engine nor the Chinese Radars have the power to support 100+ Km tracking. These radars will only be able to track enemy missiles to max 70/80 kms in BVR with those engine power, price & quality, even if your establishment give claims of 150/200 or 300 Km range missiles it's of no use because the radar doesn't support that range. Any sensible country will buy 1 Rafale, Gripen or F 16 even if that same money can buy 2 or 3 JF17's. Reason they know buying 1 will kill 8-10 JF 17's with that investment because in reality the JF 17 will be a sitting duck in BVR with all these fighters & JF17 will not be able to see any fighter beyond 70-80 km. And given this jet has 3rd Gen metal body & RD93 smokey engine it is an absolute dud in BVR. That's the reason countries are paying double & triple the amount & buying these Rafales, Gripens & F 16's & not JF 17's. Even in future it will be same, no country will buy JF 17's considering its uselessness. The same hype was created on Al Khalid tanks (Chinese MBT-2000 or Type 90-IIM tank) in the early 2000's. They were mocking India & MBT Arjuns with claims of out of the world tank & listing it in World Top 10's by Pakistanis. Today you won't see it in any war exercise or international defence forum nor the Pak establishment speaking on Al Khalid MK2, upgrades or exports. Why? because it is a failed & scrapped project. People may not know the Al Khalid's were also not inducted in the Chinese Army due to it's uselessness. As per HIT, each Al-Khalid MBT costs $30 million i.e., close to three times the cost of an average T-90 tank, which not only makes them super expensive but also technically inferior, unreliable & useless as it is plagued with several issues with tendencies to break down on the battleground if put to intense use. For Years Pakistanis kept working on this so-called “PRIDE OF THE NATION” Al-Khalid's to fix all its issues, but issues remained & financially it was getting out of hand for the incompetent Pakistani engineers. So the production was stopped at 310 units in 2014 itself & secretly the program was buried without much hyper Halla Bulla. Talks of Pakistan working on the development of Al-Khalid-2 & 3 has done rounds for 2 decades, but there has been no-show, as Pakistani establishment are helpless & incapable to maintain existing ones forget upgrade or development. Recently Pakistan quietly procured VT4 tanks from China again. So the JF 17 will also cost 5-10 times more than Rafales, Gripens, F 16's to maintain eventually making it a unbearable & useless jet to fly or even have in the inventory. JF 17's was not inducted by Chinese Airforce like the Al Khalid's because it is a toothless & useless aircraft. In coming 10 years, the JF 17 will no more be there for production or export as it will die the same death of Al Khalid. I doubt if countries will opt for these junks even as trainers though that would be an area Pakistan can pitch for rather than as a fighter. Fake patriotism will not sell machines outside. Jf-17 has better radar and technology, it is newer. it provides better range, target detection, and the ability to track multiple targets at the same time even though the F-16 is more reliable. But the f-16 has a more powerful engine (Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 or General Electric F110-GE-129), which provides better performance, acceleration and maneuverability. It can carry a wide range of weapons and has a higher payload capacity.

Your comparison on the F-16 figures is a combination of truth and falsehood. Firstly just like the Wikipiedia slander of al the JF17 Thunder blocks (1,2and3) having the same service ceiling and top speed is a total falsehood. The empty weight of the block 1 and 2 Thunder are written correctly as 7965 while t-e Block 3 variant using composites in many areas is 6411 Kg, a wiki slander and also a 19.5% slander in this RUclips video. As for the engine thrust which was kept in secrecy with many presuming the 10 Kn Chinese WS13E engine fitted as Russia for some reason did not give the improved RD93 MA engine which they did later on with an improved 2090 pounds thrust over the older ,1866 pounds thrust of the plain RD93 engine. A difference of 12% increase in power! So while the ceiling of the older blocks was 55400 feet yet higher than the 50,000 feet service ceiling of the 400 million $ F22 Raptor.. So The JF17 block3 with a 19.4℅ lighter airframe and 12℅ more thrust power the service ceiling of the Block 3 Thunder is actually 66,000 feet! while the F-16 has a ceiling of around 57000-58000 feet, and the 400 $ million Raptors is only 50,000 feet some 5000 feet lower than the block 1and 2 Thunder and some 16000 feet below the block 3 Thunder!
While a layman understands things like power to weight ratio in an aircraft has real different facts that are real crucial factors affecting service ceiling and top speed. These factors are aerodynamic parasite drag that increases by the square root and also the size of the supersonic shock bow waves formed on the wings and fuselage at high Mach numbers. So to explain in an easy to understand manner imagine a pin flying through the air, and a thick marker flying through the air.
I would like to say something quite shocking, that is that the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter with a 16000 pounds thrust engine (Even lesser than the 1866pounds of thrust of the JF17 Thunder Block 1) thrust engine reached high speeds of Mach 2.2 in 1954, in fact the first fighter aircraft to reach and cross the dreaded Mach 2 speed. and set a record height of 103,395 feet in 1959, At the beginning of space. Also please note that the F104 Starfighter had one of the worst power to weight ratio of around 0.54 compared to the F22's best of 1.1 but the F22 has only a service ceiling of 50,000 feet! Why? Like I said before power to weight ratio is not the crucial factor that is power to drag ratio and also the size and magnitude of the supersonic shock bow waves. The F-35 has the most powerful single engine thrust engine of 43000 pounds with a ceiling close to 60,000 feet.. Like I said imagine a pin flying through the air and a fat marker at high speeds. The F104 was widely called a missile flying through the air with wings as an afterthought. I'll give more insight about the brilliant F104 after the end of this article. The F104's wings were only 1 inch thick where the ailerons were attached so the supersonic shock waves were of much lesser magnitude than an F16. An F16 carries some 7000 pounds of fuel mostly in the wings making them much thicker and hence very high magnitude supersonic shock waves also the wingspan of a F104 was 21 feet + while the F16 is 31 feet with also a thicker frontal area fuselage again meaning much reduced supersonic shock waves. When an aircraft is flying at 9 times faster than the stall speed the aircraft produces some 81 times more drag (9x9=81) and that also with the much larger supersonic shock waves. That is why the F,104 flew at 103,385 feet! Well higher than an F-16 and much higher than the most powerful F35 with a 43000 pounds thrust engine. Yet the F104 had only a 16000 pounds thrust engine and one of the worst thrust to weight ratios of 0.54.
While this video is really a comparison between a JF17 Thunder and an F-16 and not an F104 which I mentioned because of how drag affects performance. The wing area of a JF17 Thunder is only 263 square feet while that of the F-16 is 300 square feet and slightly thicker wings to carry more fuel for the bigger engine. So at 9 times the stall speed the F,16 is using all that power of 81 times over a much bigger wing drag area and supersonic shock waves while the 263 square feet area (300 sq. feet F16)of the thunder and slimmer wings with smaller supersonic shock waves makes the aircraft climb to a much higher service ceiling of 66,000 fee vs. 56"000 to 58,000 of the F16.The top speed of the Thunder is Mach1.8 to Mach 2, very close to the F16. Here I would also like to say that in the 2019 Paris Air Show a French made Rafael climbed as high as that could and tried to impress. The Pakistani RUclips commentator was using the wrong terminology of figures but yet the lighter powered Jf17 Block 2 with the lesser 1866 pounds thrust engines reached almost double the height of the Rafael having the anchors eyes popping out! The aircraft was piloted brilliantly by the PAF's Wing Commander Zeeshan By Providence. The service ceiling in most articles of a Rafael is 50,000 feet and in Wikipedia mentioned as 52,000 feet.
So in terms of ceiling and top speed the JF17 is much higher in the ceiling and just about as fast in top speed.
Now lets talk about BVR (beyond visual range) missiles. The PinYin missiles of the JF17 Thunder have a 300 km range with the brilliant Chinese engineers working to increase that to around 400 km. In contrast the best USA BVR AAMRAM missile have a 150 km range and the French meteor missiles also have a 150 km BVR range.
As far as the radar goes only the 2023 F16's have an AESA radar while conventional radars were used in the 2022 F16 had no AESA radar so when they used the conventional radar that would give the position game away letting everyone know where the F16 was.
As far as a better instantaneous rate of turn of the French Rafael primarily due to the larger wing area well that is negated by a Thunder with a helmet mounted gun sight borrowed from the top Chinese J20 stealth fighter. All the Thunder pilot has to do is to turn his/her head 30-35 degrees left or right get the aircraft in the helmet gun sight locked on and fire the missile. Due to space limitations I'm ending this article but like I mentioned at the end I'd like to say a few things for which the F104 was wrongly blamed for. This was because the F104 was a high speed aircraft and was not meant to be was used for deck level flying ordered by the USAF to the German Luftwaffe. True the small wing area meant a high wing loading meaning stability but the high speed aircraft made dangerous overcorrections near the ground thus killing 115 Luftwaffe pilots mainly due to bird strikes at those deck level altitudes. The F104 was given the wrong name of "WIDDOW MAKER" for compelling the aircraft to do slow deck level flights that wasn't certainly designed for. The aces of aces Erich Von Hartman with 352 aerial victories compared with 42 of the top US ace Richard Bong and was only 22 years old when WW2 ended. He was retired from his post as a major in the Luftwaffe by the USAF as he was vehemently opposed to these dangerous low level suicide like flights of the F104..
Another thing about the F104 is that was famous that the plane would bank but hardly turn. That is because the lift vector is at 90 degrees to the wings and with such short small wings, the wings gave out a very small turn vector. That really didn't matter because the plane was designed as a high speed fighter interceptor to speed along to the enemy target and fire the AIM-9 sidewinder missiles and fly away as the plane was not meant to be a dog fighter, but rather a high speed missile firing interceptor. Just like the F35 stealth fighter, the naval version being stressed to only 7.5 G's not giving that any real dogfighting capabilities. The USAF pilots also do not like the touch functions on the 200.15$ F-35 preferring the F-16 viper’s toggle switches to the F-35 touch screen which works only 80% of the time.
Ha Ha Ha. This JF 17 Blunder's figures are all fudged. This fighter will never participate in any war exercises because it will expose all its uselessness. Even in the Dubai air show you can see this fighter can't even turn or climb vertically with no weapons or empty weight comparing to the Tejas & they are comparing it with F 16, Rafales & Gripens. This fighter will not have a combat radius of more than 600 Kms with fully loaded weapons. I doubt it will even dare to climb near or above 50000 feet with weapons loaded.
Neither the engine nor the Chinese Radars have the power to support 100+ Km tracking. These radars will only be able to track enemy missiles to max 70/80 kms in BVR with those engine power, price & quality, even if your establishment give claims of 150/200 or 300 Km range missiles it's of no use because the radar doesn't support that range.
Any sensible country will buy 1 Rafale, Gripen or F 16 even if that same money can buy 2 or 3 JF17's. Reason they know buying 1 will kill 8-10 JF 17's with that investment because in reality the JF 17 will be a sitting duck in BVR with all these fighters & JF17 will not be able to see any fighter beyond 70-80 km. And given this jet has 3rd Gen metal body & RD93 smokey engine it is an absolute dud in BVR. That's the reason countries are paying double & triple the amount & buying these Rafales, Gripens & F 16's & not JF 17's. Even in future it will be same, no country will buy JF 17's considering its uselessness.
The same hype was created on Al Khalid tanks (Chinese MBT-2000 or Type 90-IIM tank) in the early 2000's. They were mocking India & MBT Arjuns with claims of out of the world tank & listing it in World Top 10's by Pakistanis. Today you won't see it in any war exercise or international defence forum nor the Pak establishment speaking on Al Khalid MK2, upgrades or exports. Why? because it is a failed & scrapped project. People may not know the Al Khalid's were also not inducted in the Chinese Army due to it's uselessness.
As per HIT, each Al-Khalid MBT costs $30 million i.e., close to three times the cost of an average T-90 tank, which not only makes them super expensive but also technically inferior, unreliable & useless as it is plagued with several issues with tendencies to break down on the battleground if put to intense use. For Years Pakistanis kept working on this so-called “PRIDE OF THE NATION” Al-Khalid's to fix all its issues, but issues remained & financially it was getting out of hand for the incompetent Pakistani engineers.
So the production was stopped at 310 units in 2014 itself & secretly the program was buried without much hyper Halla Bulla. Talks of Pakistan working on the development of Al-Khalid-2 & 3 has done rounds for 2 decades, but there has been no-show, as Pakistani establishment are helpless & incapable to maintain existing ones forget upgrade or development. Recently Pakistan quietly procured VT4 tanks from China again.
So the JF 17 will also cost 5-10 times more than Rafales, Gripens, F 16's to maintain eventually making it a unbearable & useless jet to fly or even have in the inventory.
JF 17's was not inducted by Chinese Airforce like the Al Khalid's because it is a toothless & useless aircraft. In coming 10 years, the JF 17 will no more be there for production or export as it will die the same death of Al Khalid. I doubt if countries will opt for these junks even as trainers though that would be an area Pakistan can pitch for rather than as a fighter. Fake patriotism will not sell machines outside. It is only for internal buying & consumption. The world won't buy it.
