What I really appreciate about the design of this home is The serenity, relaxed, warm, worn in yet contemporary feel. It has a darkened Scandi hygge vibe. not quite my style but I like
Im blown away and cant put into words yet on what an amazing change i cane to today . The whole wood feel and nature , inside and out. Thanks Nela and Jeff. My son was 15 years old when I last worked with you both. I'm just blown away and congratulations. Btw HM sent me the link 😂❤🎉
My fav house. I finished a small home with a similar philosophy. I too strived for natural light, minimal energy usage and an ability to generate solar power. I have no training as an architect but have mad skills as a wooden boat builder and so applied them to the interior. Many wonderful and unique things did arise. I was handed the keys with an interior of bare drywall, toilets and tubs. Nothing else. From there I have spent, pushing three years, creating. Curves, softness and cubbies have been carefully thought of and installed, inside and out. Im getting there. Its a fun, slow march toward peace.
A lovely property, design and nicely described by the owners who are very lucky! I was hoping to see how the property fits into its landscape from further away and see the surroundings/woods. Also a layout plan and how it looked before, Maybe I missed something is it was also quite a short clip. Thanks for sharing though!
I would love to know how anyone with these beautiful modern houses with lots of glass manage smears on the windows. It drives me mad in our old cottage when the winter sun shines and there are smears on our windows even though the window cleaner has been. Also our skylights in some parts of the roof too.
I have the same question. Did they lay the stone? Install the PV? I think a more accurate title for this video is, "A Couple's Self-General-Contracted House In The Woods."
It’s implied that he designed it and she acted as the general contractor. I don’t think that actually did the physical labor, however, having gone through some major renovations and acting as the general contractor myself, I can say that can be a lot of work in itself.
@@Anacridhaze i understand that its implied, but i think its a sad trend in society that telling another person to build a house for you is seen as an accomplishment.
Yes, your house is modern, light, pleasant to live in....but with so many glass walls and in a woodland area, how about the birds hurting/killing themselves by flying into them? I would like to know how you have solved this? Minimising your footprint on the planet should also include this issue,..
its strange how everyone saying "building your own house" while they dont put a hand on anything. it should be called "ordering someone to build a house we planed"
@@carilloncomputers5687 It's funny that people who can't have the ideal are often comforted by the fact that others can, and (by implication) defend them. I have no resentment toward those who want big elaborately designed houses, that is, until they want credit for saving the world.
I put dislike under this video and I will remove your channel from my recommendations because you don't show a whole house, instead some small scattered fragments

The utter peace in this video 😭❤️
What an absolute gem of a home.
Love the kitchen family room. I could live in just those spaces and be perfectly happy.

I would love to see your work! Wood boat building craftsmanship applied at the interior combined with respecting-nature philosophy
Gorgeous home, love the interviews too. My favorite detail is the mitered balustrades at the top of the staircase... just beautiful.
The stair bannister is at of pure genius.
I'm a sucker for all things wood and vegetation and it is because of this that I love their home and their vibe.🏵️🙏🏾🏵️

Muy acogedora
Absolute swoon fest! Beautiful.
Absolutely gorgeous! Does anyone know what kind of wood was used inside? Oak?
In what way did they build the house themselves?

Need one of those dogs please ❤ anyone know the breed?
I came here to ask this…
its strange how everyone saying "building your own house" while they dont put a hand on anything. it should be called "ordering someone to build a house we planed"
They want to minimise their carbon footprint but then have a gas hob and fireplace?
"self-build house" is saying that the house built itself, not that they built the house
Ils n'ont pas peur des cambrioleurs
"self build"
Selfbuild lol? I build my house myself. brick on brick.

If it's a singe family detached house in the countryside, it's de facto not sustainable.
Can you explain?

@@1hayes1 on them, this is a nice house and isn't causing the world to collapse.
@@directresolution no, not THIS nice house, but the sum of all "nice houses" do.
