Love Persephone Books (like you my first one was Miss Pettigrew - bought from a charity shop in Swanage!). I’m so happy now they have relocated to my home town of Bath 😊 My favourite ones are Saplings by Noel Streatfeild, The Village by Marghanita Laski and Greenbanks by Dorothy Whipple

Thank you for recommending the Monica Dickens. I've had it for several years in my kitchen and will now dive in. I've wanted to read that Dorothy Whipple from our Library for several years. Thank you so much for reviving interest!

Thank you so much from the US!
I discovered my first Persephone book, Good Evening, Mrs. Craven: the Wartime Stories of Mollie Panter-Downes, and I loved it. I look forward to reading your recommendations.

I just received my first Persephone Books, it is Miss Pettigrew, I loved the film, and I can't wait to read the book. The cover is beautiful, and it even has a sort of end papers under the flaps, I got the one with the painting on the cover. Thank you for the recommendation😊

I’ve listened to Fran on Bookstagram read two Dorothy Whipple short stories on her Elevenses with Fran segment. Both of them have made me feel so much emotion, which has never happened to me before with a short story. I’ve related so much to both of them, which lets me know that she’s an amazing writer, that understands human nature and feeling.

I know I’m viewing this so so late, but I’ve just found your channel and I’m doing all your back list videos and I just had to comment, I found Persephone books awhile ago and love them. I am trying to build my collection. I have 10 of them and recently ordered three more. They look lovely on the shelves. I have Miss Pettigrew, but actually have been saving it. I read Doreen and was most impressed. Such a quietly powerful story.

I've read only half of these Persephone books, but I'm so excited to read the rest on your list. Yay! Will you be doing another video on another 10 of your favorite Persephone books? I always love Dorothy Whipple's stories so much and I loved Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and The Homemaker. I think I also started reading Elizabeth Taylor's books because of Persephone - they're so good!

When reading writers for the first time, I tend to gravitate first to the intimacy of their short stories. Dorothy Whipple's Every Good Deed and Other Stories was my first Persephone purchase. That was it. I was hooked on both publisher and writer. Your video reminded me of how excited I was when I first discovered Persephone Books about 20 years ago. (I can't believe it's been that long!) I'd clear my calendar just to sit down with its catalogue. Now I'm excited to add more titles to my shelves. Thank you!

Miranda, thank you for the Persephone video. I started collecting them last year and so far have 35 and I've read about half. I've just started reading The Happy Tree by Rosalind Murray after finishing The Fortnight in September and today I just received They Were Sisters by Dorothy Whipple in the mail. You mentioned several that sound very interesting so I will be adding more to my collection. I'm so glad I found you on Book Tube. I very rarely see videos with people talking about the kind of books I like to read. Have a happy day and thank you again!

Hi Miranda! I have a few of these on my shelves. They are GORGEOUS!! I particularly like the beautiful picturesque covers. Funny that you mentioned her because I just purchased Mansfield's journals. It just came so I am thrilled. So many books, so little time. I always tell my husband that I wish there were 32 hours in a day: 8 for sleep, 8 for work, 8 for chores/errands and 8 for reading. LOL. Have a lovely day!

My first Persephone book was Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, too! I remember reading it on my back porch on a summer evening about five years ago. I haven't yet read many Persephone books, but I got a stack for Christmas: Greengates and The Fortnight in September by R.C. Sherriff, Kitchen Essays by Agnes Jekyll, and Greenbanks, High Wages, and The Priory by Dorothy Whipple. And I always have a list going of more titles to buy!

Greetings from Denmark! Thank you for all your excellent recommendations, Miranda. I found your channel last week and have been watching from the start. Ordered three of the ones you recommended here + Seeking Slow and Pine by Francine Toon today. I think I need to stop watching ;-) Just finished "Rules for Visiting" by Jessica Francis Kane, in case you haven't read it. I think you might enjoy it! Love seeing you and your mum too. Thanks again and enjoy your Easter! Warmly, Nina

I see on your Mores that Dorothy Canfield Fisher, one of my favorite childhood authors, of Understood Betsy, is listed. I'd no idea she wrote adult fiction. Again, thank you for your list and wonderful fleshing out the Persephone books.
