    Dear Miranda, I just loved this video, I could feel and understand your joy. I am over 82 now but I can remember when I was able as a young girl going to my first big library. Do you know I can still feel the joy I felt then. I love books, the feel of them and that special smell, I have never forgotten it, from that first day until now. Thankyou for sharing your joy with us.💙💙

    What a beautiful, cozy room. I know it was a lot of work to move and organize--I was getting tired for you--but the fast-motion effects and the spirited music made it look like such a cheerful adventure. I love the idea of books at home within bookshelves with stories of their own.

    Such a beautiful and cosy room, Miranda. I love the new bookcases. I also love your old post office shelves with the dark wood and green insides, those are charming. I do hope you do a tour once you're all organized, I love having a peek at other people's shelves. I'm sure it's been quite a lot of work so far, but surely well worth it and everything looks marvelous! xx

    Miranda moves at the speed of light! Your ‘recycled’ shelves remind me of two of ours from the 1970s from a company called Chapel and Mills. For a long time we assumed the owners were Mr Chapel and Mr Mills (!) . But later discovered that the wood was repurposed from ... yes, chapels and mills (this is Yorkshire after all - I was still calling them factories. Thanks for the exercise demo. All looking great x

    So beautifully designed and planned, Miranda! Really enjoyed this tour and found it inspiring for reorganizing my own space as well. I too keep fiction together (w/related lit crit) and then nonfiction organized loosely by topic. I love your idea of repurposing vintage furniture. The bookcases are lovely, both the dark wood and green shelves and the new magnolia painted cases. Your living space has an expansive yet cosy look, very inviting. xx

      I'm so glad you enjoyed the tour, Lisa - thank you! My Mum and I love spending time in this room; we find it so comfortable, and of course with all the books it's hard to tear ourselves away haha. Repurposing vintage furniture has been a real revelation to me, especially using old wardrobes as they're generally inexpensive (no one seems to want them these days), but are made with lovely real wood and so are great for turning into bookcases! xxx

    Looks wonderful Miranda! Love the new bookcases but also really love the former post office repurposed ones! Love the green interior with dark wood! It’s such a lovely inviting room! I’d like more bookshelves but alas no room at present. My books are non-fiction in the living room & fiction in the spare room because I tend to read more non-fiction. My non-fiction books are primarily sorted by genre and sub-genre as I have lots of history books so these are arranged in sections - ancient history, British history, European history, 20th Century history, and then other subjects like nature, travel, art history fashion history, cooking, etc. In lockdown I seem to have acquired quite a few new books so really need to do a bit of rearranging as they are looking a little busy at the moment! 😉 Always enjoy seeing how others keep & sort their books!

    Hello Miranda, what a lovely video and there is nothing more satisfying than sorting bookshelves! I once tried sorting by spine colour - that looked good but wasn't practical. The one thing that frustrates me is the different heights of my shelves. I keep Christmas cookery books and series of books together and I have some hidden in baskets under coffee tables and a bookshelf behind an armchair where they are two deep but can't be seen. It is going to be interesting to see how your system develops, good luck! Teresa 📚💕

    • @MirandaMills
      @MirandaMills  4 года назад +2

      Thanks so much Teresa! I agree that sorting bookshelves is one of life's greatest joys. I do also struggle with different shelf sizes; that's what stops me from being able to shelve in alphabetical order generally. I also keep my Christmas books all together, although I think they're going to be relegated to the very top of a bookcase as I don't have much room for them! xxx

    Hi Miranda, I watched your video last night and also wrote a comment. But I seem to have forgotten to send it. I must have been dead tired. Well, you were really fast in organizing your books! You did a great job! Your new bookshelf is really beautiful and I like the new arrangement of the dark shelves on each side of the window. All my books ( a mere fraction of yours) are exclusively stored in my tiny bedroom and in a muddle. I love to fall asleep in my big kingsize bed surrounded by books.

    I am in the midst of trying to source some new bookshelves/cases and this video gave me some good ideas - thank you. Wardrobes? What an excellent idea. Re-cycling and up-cycling is such a good way to go and I hadn't thought of painting the existing wood a different colour. You have narrowed down my search. Best wishes to you and your mum from Lottie in Suffolk

    What a lovely room ! Such beautiful flowers not to mention the books. The scary thing is as I look at my most recently acquired book case is that it is almost full... My husband has claimed a shelf for his Australian history titles. My son has claimed one for his Arthur Ransome’s , another has his Ronald Welch hardbacks and the rest is my mishmash of unsorted Trollope, Penguin cloth covered hardbacks, Churchill histories, a botanical field guide and all sorts of idiosyncratic titles! I have bookcases and shelves of children’s titles with Australian titles separated, reference books and classic novels. I have restricted my buying to hardbacks and titles that are worthy of keeping. As I have recently finished a chapter in my life educating my children I feel a book rearranging session approaching, the problem is I know exactly where every book is now! I hope you are enjoying your new home.

    There's something so therapeutic about watching this video, love it. I'm glad you find cookery books hard to order as well - I have over 300 and they are in such a variety of sizes and condition (through frequent use) it is so hard to keep them looking goo.

    • @MirandaMills
      @MirandaMills  4 года назад

      Thank you! I agree about cookery books being really hard to order! I also have a lot of 'foodie memoir' type books (that still have some recipes), and it is hard knowing how to organise them all! I'm going to put my most used ones in the kitchen though! xxx

    There is a perfect combination between the functionality of the new bookselves and the charm of the old ones.I find that dark wood makes a room cozy , if the walls are in lighter colors, the ambient does not get heavy.Perhaps it would be a good idea to paint the book , the last one behind the table, in the same color of the new ones?I wish you and your lovely mom wonderful moments surrounded by books , flowers and nice food! Do you still have place for books your purchases in the future? Thank you very much for the video, it is very nice to see how you are doing in the new life.

    I've just started getting into watch your youtube channel videos. I have been following on instagram but I'm not on it everyday. Loved this bookcase tour. We built 13 7' foot tall bookcases for our living room (10 nine years ago and the last 3 with 6 inch wide shelves for paperbacks this year). 8 of the original ones are currently being refurbished as we had to move them for new window installation. We realized we should give them a new coat of white paint and replace the original shelf holder style pegs with metal standards, giving us more options for shelf height. That is still on going and watching your video has given me new motivation to finish putting in the standards.

I have my ‘classics’ alphabetically and my other fiction by genre. Then I have a case of just history books. I love your bookcases so much! Your desk is adorable - I love the side drawers :D Your entire room looks like it is so wonderful and relaxing to sit in - I'm so envious! I'm in love with your Dean Street Press books - I find them a bit expensive and harder to find here in the U.S. But, I have three of D.E. Stevenson's books and I hope to get more soon. Thank you so much for giving us a tour - it was so much fun! 90% of my books are very old or ratty paperbacks (still trying to replace some of my favorites with hardcovers) and so they're not very lovely looking at all. If I had better looking books, I would organize them by color - or at least try to. But, I've heard it's not easy to find them later - lol! :D

    Hi, Miranda! I was really inspired by this video. I organize my books by nationality (Eng. Lit.; Am. Lit; Port. Lit; Span. Lit; French Lit;...) and then the authors kind of by chronological order. I am thinking about getting rid of my old Ikea bookshelves and having something nicer built by a carpenter. My decor style is mid century modern meets traditional, so I am picking some ideas here. Thank you! :) (Margareads on IG)
