  • It's Friday, so it's time for this week's 'Tea Reads' episode! In this video, I'm joined by my Mum (Donna), and we share our regular Friday routine of a teatime chat about books over tea and a sweet treat. In our 'Tea Reads' episodes, we'll be sharing great short reads that can be enjoyed in the time it takes to drink a cup of tea. In today's episode, we bake Delia Smith's fruit scones and read aloud a poem and some extracts about the fruitfulness of autumn.

    I loved Beatrix Potter as a girl also! My son's nursery was entirely Beatrix Potter themed. We really enjoyed the cartoon version of the stories when my boys were little. This was such a delightful video (as always). I'm so happy you were able to visit her home.❤

    I've been going back through the "tea reads" archives and re-watching them. It's so great to be reminded of how to make some really lovely teatime treats! My late mum used to make scones and was a huge fan of Delia. Many was a time that we heard "Delia says....." - I have inherited her well loved Delia books with lots of handwritten comments on how to tweak the various recipes. You have reminded me of that so I will definitely be making these as we move into Autumn - maybe I will even try making some jam! x

    This popped up and it is one I haven't seen. What a wonderful Autumn 🍂 this has been! I am always learning something new from you and Donna. I was not familiar with Quince butter, but sounds delicious! The scones, tea and reading by the fire 🔥 is so picture perfect. Makes me wish I was the lady who was stopping by!!

    Love your Friday Tea Reads!! Scones are now on the menu for the week end 😊. In your last Tea Reads you mentioned you needed to look into getting an owl mug. I couldn't remember the name of the china at the time, but i remembered this week. Have you seen the Wrendale tea china by Royal Worcester? They have a small owl tea pot that comes with a tea cup, or a small owl mug that you may want to check out.
    P.S. I have been inspired to purchase The Lost Spells by Robert Macfarlane & Jackie Morris this past week, and the book is beautiful. I also just ordered the Food Almanac by Miranda York. Look forward to next Friday's Tea Reads!

I want all the books you introduced us to! It made me smile when you said you never get as many scones/biscuits out of the dough as they do in the cookbook. Hello Miranda and Donna. I cannot tell you how much I love and look forward to all of your videos, especially the tea reads with the baking. I have made scones many times, but not lately. My family loves them. You have reminded me to make them soon. I have not gotten my Victoria sponge made yet, but did get the raspberry preserves. Your reads today were perfection for autumn. I am going to listen again in a little while. My granddaughter is coming to spend the night with me and I would like her to listen as well. I have never had quince, but it sounds delicious. I love apple butter. I feel a real connection to you ladies. My only daughter, Allison, is very close to your age, Miranda, and she is a definite Anglophile. I wish you both a very wonderful weekend....... Crystal.

    As always, such a delight to share some time in your kitchen and in front of the fire...both you and your Mum are charming hostesses. My Mum has always spoke fondly of the quince jelly my Grandma would make for their family, when Mum was a child in Sussex, England. Your lovely episode has now inspired me to search out some quince fruit , which sadly, are not that common in our area of BC, Canada. But I am always up for a challenge, especially with the end result being the look on my dear Mum's face when I surprise her with some homemade scones and quince butter! Keep well...xo PS Your tea read selections always captivate my imagination...and...add another book to my growing home library...thank you! ;-)

    Dear Miranda and Donna, Thank you for this lovely Friday tea chat - it has become a part of my Friday routine that I very much look forward to. I had no idea that making scones is so quick and easy - am definitely going to give it a go. I have not found good scones here (Washington, DC). During our years living in London I got used to the delicious scones at Fortnum's 1st floor cafe and Liberty's cafe. Lovely to know I came make them here, and have also found self-rising flour and caster sugar, as uncommon here as good scones! Yours looked so tasty! I will also try Miranda's suggestion for savoury scones. I really appreciate the care you both take to explain the process thoroughly with close-ups too. So helpful! Also loved the short reads. Always a delight and joy to watch your videos. Have a lovely weekend! Lisa xx

    • @MirandaMills
      @MirandaMills  3 года назад

      Yorkshire pudding is actually a savoury side dish, traditionally served as part of a Sunday roast dinner, so it’s definitely not something you’d have for afternoon tea! Clafoutis is a kind of sweetened version of the batter, baked with fruit, so I may try to do that sometime xx
