The Representation of People Act,1951 stipulates that any person convicted under the law can stand in elections provided he has filed an appeal within 3 months of dat conviction order. Convicted person can contest elections after 6 yrs of conviction
Given the low conviction rate in our country, criminals can keep on committing crimes and keep on winning elections. Against the global norms of 50 judges per 1 million population, we have 11. Backlogs can't be finished unless we recruit more judges.

There is no functional autonomy for police. Those who stand against the ministers are crucified and made an example for others to fall in line. Example Sanjeev Bhatt. No transparency in appointment of DGP.There are only 3 forensic labs in our country. Most of the young IPS recruits want to serve in 'comfortable' areas.Police force needs to be transformd into Police service.Performance appraisals as introducd 4 IAS officers, need 2 b done same for IPS.

Are the voices really getting louder? Strange claim at the start of the program since nothing seems to be moving. Ever more criminals are elected to our assemblies by the people. The other panel discussion on police and judicial reforms on RSTV concluded that it is very difficult to change the status quo till there are criminals are in the parliaments and assemblies.

what are the human rights to deal with police searches, checks and irrelevant interrogation? Do we have laws to refuse for searches and checks ?
