- THE SLIDING DOOR ON OUR MK7 TRANSIT CAMPER VAN WAS STUCK SHUT, THE SLIDING DOOR HAS BEEN STUCK SHUT FOR A YEAR NEARLY MAINLY BECAUSE I WAS SO BUSY IT WAS JUST A JOB I NEVER GOT ROUND TO. WE MANNAGED TO GET THE SLIDING DOOR OPEN ON THE TRANSIT VAN BUY DRILLING OUT THE STICKING LOCK MECHANISM AND POPPING THE DOOR LATCH WITH A SCREWDRIVER.
We have been on our travels in our Transit camper van nearly a year now all the while we have been popping the door open using a screwdriver and our little drilling hack. It’s been a pain if I’m honest but, I have been super busy working in everyone else’s camper vans that I haven’t had much time for maintenance on our transit camper. We have just spent a week on our camper van sorting out lots of little jobs and fixing the door was one of them.
We hope you enjoyed this video and it helps you with your sticking side loading door on your mk6 or mk7 transit van.

Spot on pal. Nice video
Thank you for this video , it worked perfectly , drilled in to the approximate spot and used a long screwdriver , it does need a long series screwdriver to find the latch and click up , magic .
Perfect glad it helped and thanks for watching
Similar problem, daughter tried to force handle instead fo waiting for cargo door to be unlocked. I drilled the hole as you described and after pushing screwdriver around inside it opened. My mechanic couldn’t even get it open it so it was a great help. Many thanks
I’m having difficulty with this part I’ve made my hole just not sure how to unlatch it
Thanks mare from Australia. Drilled the hole and found the latch easy. Cheers!

How do you this on a 2017 Transit Custom? The sliding door has deadlocked shut and cannot open from the inside or outside I suspect it's either a fault wiring loom or the cable for opening on the outside has dislodged from the eyehook in the lock mechanism. I cannot remove the lock and it's driving me crazy.
I've just installed a second-hand sliding door lock and now the door won't open from the inside and outside. The lock works with the keyfob and I think the manual switch for the child lock is on so cannot open from the inside anyway. The sliding door won't open from the outside. How strange is that?
Hi friend. Are you saying a metal core bit or a metal cobalt? If possible could you show us what it looks like? Thanks
Sorry a core bit, like a hole cutting bit with a drill bit in the middle.
Good video will this work when the door does not unlock ? the little knob on the inside does not turn all the way when I hit the key to unlock (at times it does work)
I wouldn’t like to say, if its sometimes working it could be something different.
If you can get it open try cleaning the contacts on the door. You have two sets of contacts one on the door and one on the van where the door closes, these need to have a clean contact to allow the door to unlock.
How do I know if it is this that's defo the part that's failed? I've heard it can be contact points as well? Mine was intermittently not locking/unlocking. I thought it was because the door had dropped and the contacts weren't meeting properly. It worked perfectly for a couple of days until it then permanently jammed shut
I've had similar with mine for years - super temperamental. Did you find a fix for yours? Was it contacts in the end?
Does the unlocking process work off the key fob with a new lock?
Yes it should no problem as the fob isn’t connected remotely to the door.
Did you by a used genuine, new genuine, or cheap Chinese aftermarket lock? Im seeing prices for £120 used, £99 new aftermarket and £275 new genuine. Ive only just picked myself up off the floor.
Crazy prices aren’t they, I got a used genuine for £80
Ford really do need to go back to the drawing board with their vehicle locking mechanisms.
I work in the building trade, and most of us have transits.
Everyone without exception, has trouble with their locking.
Chucklesome to see so many mr Bean solutions, padlocks on the doors, but infuriating at the time.
Especially when all your tools are locked inside, and you have a pressing day ahead.
It’s not just the mechanism, my auxiliary battery died and I lost the ability to u lock the rear doors even with the key, luckily connecting jump leads from the starter battery gave it the boost I needed to get in and get my tools out.
