Many thanks ! Have spent the £300 on a new key and it lasted 6 months had it replaced ( free ) and it's done it again ! Bought a piece of furniture with an induction charger built in (glass topped sideboard ) but don't have the £1500.00 phone to use it ! Will try it tonight when my Van's back from mot 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This is just what I needed to hear. Got myself a cheap 07 plate transit a few months ago with the manual lock on the driver's door knackered so only entry into the cab via the central locking on the blue key. Was working fine up until last week when it took a few minutes of constant pressing of the unlock button, got a battery to replace it to find it impossible to open the case so went to good old RUclips and came across this video. £8 wireless charger from Amazon and 2 hours charge later I was able to unlock from down the street. Thanks Mel, top man, top video.
Thank you so much! My fella went out to his van last night and couldn’t get in it. Googled. Found your clip. Tried it. This morning he is back in his van. The toothbrush charger worked. I am now the best thing since sliced bread and he is a happy chap! X
That’s brilliant so nice to hear it worked for you and ya fella. If you would like to help me and others then please feel free to share on social media FB etc 👍🤓👍
If you turn the key clockwise twice the back door unlocks. Insert key turn clockwise to unlock driver door. Release then turn clockwise again. You should hear the rear door unlock. Works on my MK7.
I ve tried today and it did worked, thanks. The rigth position is buttons are down, ford logo is up. Key is pointing out, chain hole is towards charger cable.
Went out this morning to fetch my wife from work, van (transit tourneo mk7) unlocked as normal with the button jumped in turned the key and nothing!!! No dash lights nothing. So came in to search for possible causes on internet and came across this video. So popped key on my Apple Watch charger for an hour just to see if this would work before I went any further. Well ladies and gentlemen it actually worked and would like to thank you for saving me a hole heap of money and time. You sir are a legend. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Tried this with two different electric toothbrush chargers and with two different keys. It didn't work, even after dismantling them and trying them in different positions, using a multi meter to check the voltage regularly. In the end, I used a bench power supply to charge them at 4.2V (as required for Lithium ion), which seems to have worked. Both batteries now reading 3.7V, as expected for lithium ion.
Hi Can u tell me how to connect DCC50S 12V 50A DC-DC ON-BOARD BATTERY CHARGER WITH MPPT to a ignition with IGN cable as I have transit with smart alternator, grrrr.. I have seen previous video about about it.. thank u so much And great idea with the key charging!!!
Nice one so glad you posted this, I used my Apple Watch charger, it done the trick van opens starts and drives nice one buddy, I’m now going to check out your camper ideas as I intend on doing that as well 👏👏👏😁
That's brilliant! We had a similar problem and quote from Ford but at least we could open the van via the driver's lock. We knew our auxiliary battery was shot but great news when we replaced both aux and starter battery the key fob was charged up again and has worked ever since! Happy days! 😁👍 Apparently, if your batteries are old, ours were probably original so 5 years, they stop charging the fob.
@@clarecadman5330 you can do it lots of resources on line keep it simple and safe don’t get carried away with all the must have videos start with basic seat up and build it up from there 👍
Well Mel I've just been sat here trying to open my key fob. Decided to seek advice from the oracle google and found your video. I'm now taping my key to my toothbrush charger. Thanks for the informative story.
I have been researching these things since I laundered mine. With key in lock, you can open or lock the front (one operation of the key) or front and back (two operations). No battery required. The battery is required to operate remote locking/unlocking. Key operation as above is a workaround. The transducer is a separate solid state device, does not require battery. After laundering, water leaked out. After much flicking, I verified water was still inside by pressing buttons and observed water came out. I repeated this until water no longer came out. I think put it in my slow cooker, on "keep it warm" for some hours. After this, remote locking still does not work. However, the transducer does, and I can start the engine once again. Running the engine for 20 minutes did not recharge the battery, it's had a second session in the slow cooker since then. I'll go for a drive later, and see what happens. I expect to have to buy another key, I should regardless because I only only have the one.
Hi m8, just bought a 58 plate Ford transit and the key fob was dead, it won't open the van door so just stuck it on top of my Samsung phone wireless charger so hope it will work
If the battery is running low on the key would this effect the immobiliser? My key is still opening the door but seems a bit slower to on that. But nothing at all happening when I turn the ignition. The battery is fully charged. Just bought the van last month and it's been working fine but was lying for about two weeks. Looks like your channel will provide me with some much needed education! 😂 any advice greatly appreciated Mel. Tony.
hello mate the battery will not affect the immobiliser the key has aTransponder its more likely the ignition switch have a look at my outher video good luck ruclips.net/video/meRNXMEznL4/видео.html
Dizzy Benno Hi my bed with ways across the van is 5.7 down the van back to front is 4.6 unmade with extended over the counter it’s 6.6 long Hope this helps 🤓🤙
Hi Mel, not sure if you can do this or not but maybe an idea when you have finished your friends camper conversion. Is it possible to make a video about purchasing a Transit and what you look for and have found in your experience? Just an idea that’s all. Cheers
I do have good ideas occasionally but they’re very taxing, will have to go to sleep for a while now 😂. Too many buying guides by experts out there and to be honest I’d rather hear experience from someone on the same level as me. Cheers
Thanks so much for the hope, I will try... But I saw these available to buy on the internet - has anyone else bought them and tried to change them over from the old? Does that work?
The problem is the new one will need recoding. You could always replace the battery in the old one but it a delicate operation and involves unsoldering the old battery and soldering in a new one.
Nice one, I've just picked up a transit with the same problem but my pcb has damp/battery marks in it. battery measures ok and I cleaned the board so hopefully nothing else is dead and thanks to you I now know how to charge it.
That is an ingenious solution. Well done for discovering it. I have a question. Currently I'm looking at vans to buy to self convert and also will need to keep a car for some years I think. I therefore need to insure both. What's the best solution you and others have found to this, I'll only be driving one at once but would like to not start from nil no claims bonus on the second? Thanks in advance.
Saxilby Joe Hi thanks for watching and your positive message 👍 As for insurance I think you’ll find most people do have two policies one for car and one for camper sorry I can’t be much help on this 🤓🤙
I'm going to try it- will have to buy an electric toothbrush first though (swore I'd never stoop so low as brought up to believe in hard work -elbow grease) :) Will give you my verdict!
How in the end was the most successful position for the key to charge on the induction base you never actually clarified.was it on top side or underneath?
David hughes i did start by balancing it on top and then actually put the charger on top of the key I keep moving during the day so can’t say for sure just know it worked sorry I couldn’t be more helpful 😐
Hi Mel, I am in a similar situation, in that I cannot use my key to unlock my campervan. I purchased an induction toothbrush charger and ‘charged’ it overnight. It didn’t work when I tried to unlock the van. Do you know of another way to gain access into my 2008 van? It is fitted with 2 batteries under the drivers seat, so using a battery charger under the bonnet will not work. I look forward to your comments. Many thanks.
Hi if your engine battery’s have gone flat you can still charge them if you can get under the bonnet there is a live pole under a cover with a + on top it’s usually used to put jump leads on put your booster or charger pos on this and neg to the engine anywhere and you’re be golden 👍
Omg my sons just called me to say purs has failed! The van was open thank god but the rear won't open to get the dogs out! When he's home I will charge it up like you've done..but I'm surprised it's not charging normally as I drive her most days🤔..I think its faulty
Hope it works, just left it on it, will reply if it worked for me, putted the buttons on top of the point where the toothbrush slides in hope it works!
Wow might need that tip in the future! Just found your channel, loving your videos. Any idea after changing my transit engine battery now the coil light is flashing?

Mel’s Van World tried everything! Can get a wire to the leaver inside but it’s deadlocked! And like yours the manual key is damaged! I’ve got the key on a phone charger pad as we speak! It’s been standing so not been charging! Bloody fords! Thanks anyway for getting back to me.
Had a similar problem with my Ford transit key fob battery and I got a new battery installed it carefully and hey presto it worked for about two weeks. I had a dodgy battery so got another one and started carefully unsoldering the knackered only for one very thin wire to stick to the battery and get pulled out as I removed the battery. Now got no remote fob and having to use the key lock to manually open the van. New replacement fob is a bit pricey so it will have to wait until I can save some pounds.
After going to the locksmith and being told he can't replace the battery. I didn't realise it was rechargeable battery until I see this video. I started vehicle and left it running for 20 minutes then the key work perfectly.

You've saved me a lot of stress and money 💰. Thank you so much. 20min charging was enough to get me going. Will top it up overnight.
That’s good news well done and thanks for letting me know I’m so pleased that it’s working for so many people 👍🍻👍
Cheers Mell!! Valuable info!! Love how you describe stuff so I can actually understand 👍
You’re welcome hope it works for you 🤞
So...... HOW did you place the key? Thank you for sharing
Elastic band and moved it around evenly
Haaa!!! What a great vid..I was trying to change the battery too..
Hopefully it’s helpful to you 👍
Hi
Can u tell me how to connect DCC50S 12V 50A DC-DC ON-BOARD BATTERY CHARGER WITH MPPT to a ignition with IGN cable as I have transit with smart alternator, grrrr..
I have seen previous video about about it.. thank u so much
And great idea with the key charging!!!
Sorry I couldn’t help you
Nice one so glad you posted this, I used my Apple Watch charger, it done the trick van opens starts and drives nice one buddy, I’m now going to check out your camper ideas as I intend on doing that as well 👏👏👏😁
Hay so please to hear it helped you out thanks for taking the time to comment 👍😊👍
What part of the country are you at? Regards
I’m in the cotswolds
That's brilliant! We had a similar problem and quote from Ford but at least we could open the van via the driver's lock. We knew our auxiliary battery was shot but great news when we replaced both aux and starter battery the key fob was charged up again and has worked ever since! Happy days! 😁👍
Apparently, if your batteries are old, ours were probably original so 5 years, they stop charging the fob.
Myfanwy the Van thank you for sharing that’s really interesting 🤙🤓
Just google battery changing a Ford key............ you came up. I’m so going to try this and 🤞it works
Good luck and thanks for the positive feedback really appreciated 👍
Now to watch how to convert a camper van ....... girl power !!! Only wish I had the skills..... a girl can dream
@@clarecadman5330 you can do it lots of resources on line keep it simple and safe don’t get carried away with all the must have videos start with basic seat up and build it up from there 👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld you haven’t seen my diy skills 😂 I’d love to tour around uk with my little dogs. Hopefully one day
Well Mel I've just been sat here trying to open my key fob. Decided to seek advice from the oracle google and found your video. I'm now taping my key to my toothbrush charger. Thanks for the informative story.
Thank you and good luck 🤞 hope it works for you if not try a phone induction charger they work really well to so I’m told 👍
The places these keys have let me down 😂🙈
Thank you 👍
You’re absolutely welcome 👍
Talk about a eureka moment! Iv got mine on an Apple wireless charger right now! Fingers crossed
Hope it works out for you fingers crossed 🤞
Ok can u show us exactly how u put the key on the toothbrush charge!?
Sorry I didn’t mention that
How long roughly does it take to charge iv put my on a phone charger pad
Should be ok in a couple of hours 👍
Just put mine on the toothbrush charger. Will let you know how I get on
Even if it doesn't work you got a like and a new subscriber
Good luck 🤞 and thanks for the support really appreciated 👍
What side of the key did you charge it from? Was there a certain side or position the key charges in?
Thanks mate I have an iPhone induction charger trying it out now cheers
Your absolutely welcome good luck with it 🤞🤞
I'm in the same situation now.
Currently got my mk7 key on the wireless charger
Fingers crossed 🤞😅
Just an update.
It wasn't my key, it was my aux battery that was nailed 😅
That didn't work and so I bought a replacement complete key assembly. Now, the new one doesn't work.... Do I have an induction charger?
Hi m8, just bought a 58 plate Ford transit and the key fob was dead, it won't open the van door so just stuck it on top of my Samsung phone wireless charger so hope it will work
If the battery is running low on the key would this effect the immobiliser? My key is still opening the door but seems a bit slower to on that. But nothing at all happening when I turn the ignition. The battery is fully charged. Just bought the van last month and it's been working fine but was lying for about two weeks. Looks like your channel will provide me with some much needed education! 😂 any advice greatly appreciated Mel. Tony.
hello mate the battery will not affect the immobiliser the key has aTransponder its more likely the ignition switch have a look at my outher video good luck

Give that guy Mel a cigar ..it works top man !!
Currently got my key strapped to a toothbrush charger with an elastic band, hoping for the best
Good luck 🤞
Hi Mel. How wide and long is your bed in the van
Dizzy Benno Hi my bed with ways across the van is 5.7 down the van back to front is 4.6 unmade with extended over the counter it’s 6.6 long
Hope this helps 🤓🤙
I will be doing a van tour soon I will include a demonstration of my bed for you if that’s any help 👍
Priceless 😂. Question is, is it worth buying another lock obviously a different key and keeping the key somewhere as a just in case.
Diesel Bushcraft hi yes I am looking into fixing it properly 🤓🤙
Hi Mel, not sure if you can do this or not but maybe an idea when you have finished your friends camper conversion. Is it possible to make a video about purchasing a Transit and what you look for and have found in your experience? Just an idea that’s all. Cheers
Diesel Bushcraft that’s a brilliant idea 🤙🤓
I do have good ideas occasionally but they’re very taxing, will have to go to sleep for a while now 😂. Too many buying guides by experts out there and to be honest I’d rather hear experience from someone on the same level as me. Cheers
Spot on same problem here bro have key in engin now
Good luck with the key 🤞👍
A true eureka moment 👏🙏🤯
You have saved me from a future headache, for that I Thank You 👍😎
New sub, so the first of many comments ✌️
Thank you for the positive message and subscribing really appreciate your encouragement and support 👍😊👍
Thanks so much for the hope, I will try... But I saw these available to buy on the internet - has anyone else bought them and tried to change them over from the old? Does that work?
You’re absolutely welcome good luck 🤞
The problem is the new one will need recoding. You could always replace the battery in the old one but it a delicate operation and involves unsoldering the old battery and soldering in a new one.
Hi can you remember what position the charger was balanced on the fob at ? Cheers ✌️
I changed it around every now and then someone suggested in the comments to use an elastic band and it worked for them 👍
Nice one, I've just picked up a transit with the same problem but my pcb has damp/battery marks in it. battery measures ok and I cleaned the board so hopefully nothing else is dead and thanks to you I now know how to charge it.
You’re absolutely welcome good luck with the new van 🚐
That is an ingenious solution. Well done for discovering it. I have a question. Currently I'm looking at vans to buy to self convert and also will need to keep a car for some years I think. I therefore need to insure both. What's the best solution you and others have found to this, I'll only be driving one at once but would like to not start from nil no claims bonus on the second? Thanks in advance.
Saxilby Joe Hi thanks for watching and your positive message 👍
As for insurance I think you’ll find most people do have two policies one for car and one for camper sorry I can’t be much help on this 🤓🤙
Thank you - that helps 👍
So which way works
I'm going to try it- will have to buy an electric toothbrush first though (swore I'd never stoop so low as brought up to believe in hard work -elbow grease) :) Will give you my verdict!
Hi no need to get a toothbrush just get a induction phone charger works well iv been told good luck 👍
Thanks Mel for sharing this info.
You are absolutely welcome fingers crossed it works for you 🤞👍
How in the end was the most successful position for the key to charge on the induction base you never actually clarified.was it on top side or underneath?
David hughes i did start by balancing it on top and then actually put the charger on top of the key I keep moving during the day so can’t say for sure just know it worked sorry I couldn’t be more helpful 😐
Hi Mel,
I am in a similar situation, in that I cannot use my key to unlock my campervan.
Great information Mel, but what was the best position or angle to finally charge the key?
I just kept moving it around during the day 🤙🤓
Omg my sons just called me to say purs has failed! The van was open thank god but the rear won't open to get the dogs out! When he's home I will charge it up like you've done..but I'm surprised it's not charging normally as I drive her most days🤔..I think its faulty
Oh gosh good luck 🤞
Hope it works, just left it on it, will reply if it worked for me, putted the buttons on top of the point where the toothbrush slides in hope it works!
Good luck 🤞
Wow might need that tip in the future!
Just found your channel, loving your videos.
Any idea after changing my transit engine battery now the coil light is flashing?
Hi thank you for the positive message I’m really sorry I don’t know what has happened to your engine not without actually looking at it on person good luck with it hope you sort it out 🤞
@@BigVanSmallWorld Hope you are doing better. Fingers crossed your back is recovering.
Fingers crossed AA can pin point my van problem...need to start getting out and about 🤪
@@sallyohalloran6650 thank you I’m still in pain and busting to get out just like you and probably so many others good luck with your van I’ll keep my fingers crossed 🤞 🤞🤞

Great video mate , I'm going to do mine now , Which way did you place the key on the charger please , like buttons facing up , or buttons facing down on to the charger , cheers Jordon
Hello mate I just put it on the charger with an elastic band 👍🤓👍

Thank you for your feedback good luck I hope it works out for you 👍🤓👍
i get same problem with my ford jumbo,i now go start it every day as my key if not charged has a job to open the door manualy, but after fiddling a bit it dos open,i took my key apart and resoldered a new battery and bought spares, plus the blue plastic bits.ebay to the rescue,
keflol hill brilliant well done 👍🤓🤙
Hi I have the same problem! I’ve tried everything. How many times did you try to charge it. Any help info would be great. Cheers.
I’ve also had the AA out and they have failed. I’ve tried to recharge it with a toothbrush charger. Phone charger and watch charger! No joy.
Chris Fulcher hi maybe the problem isn’t your key ?
Mel’s Van World tried everything! Can get a wire to the leaver inside but it’s deadlocked! And like yours the manual key is damaged! I’ve got the key on a phone charger pad as we speak! It’s been standing so not been charging! Bloody fords! Thanks anyway for getting back to me.
yes thanks so much i will try tonight top fix my key I too go a quote for over £300.00 ! thanks so much
Good luck with it please let me know if it works for you 👍😊👍
been trying with a wireless car charger to no avail any body eles used one
Hi try a manes one good luck 🤞
You have just saved my sanity 😊
Good to know 😊👍
going to try it as I cant enter my van 🙈
Good luck I’ll cross my fingers for you 🤞if it doesn’t work try a mobile phone wireless charger pad 👍🤓👍
That was inspired Mel! Kudos!
What was the magic arrangement that got the charge into the key though?
Barry Donaldson Hi ya I don’t Know I just moved it around during the day I think as long as it’s touching it works 🤓🤙
Stephen waugh Oh No that’s a real shame well done for trying though 🤙🤓
After going to the locksmith and being told he can't replace the battery. I didn't realise it was rechargeable battery until I see this video. I started vehicle and left it running for 20 minutes then the key work perfectly.
Fantastic I’m glad that my videos helped you 👍
