Magoo was on his a game that year. My favorite rider of all time. I raced from 76 through 82. Love Marty Smith and Bob Hannah, but Magoo was my favorite
I would like to give a compliment to the coverage and commentary here back in 1982. I very much more enjoy listening to these guys than modern commentary. Of course, the entire sport was better back then too,--and the world was too.
So great to have this footage for this historic event. Magoo was simply unstoppable. It's so nice that he had his "days in the sun" at the MX and Trophee des Nations in '82 which was the cherries on the cake for immortalizing his name in the sport forever. Way to go team USA! So proud of all of you.
Danny was our hometown hero growing and still living in the town Danny was from was definitely a awesome childhood experience you will always be missed “MAGOO” he was always about us kids from phots shoots to spare parts for our bikes… You will always be the greatest!!!
Wholen is in Switzerland, near Zurich. I was there with the Bellinzago motorcycle club, beautiful memories with those great champions and the fantastic 500 2-stroke ones
Danny Chandler was the FASTEST MOTOCROSSER OF ALL TIME, HANDS DOWN. NOT SMOOTH AT ALL. BUT HE DID WHAT NOBODY ELSE WOULD EVEN TRY AS FAR AS THE JUMPS AND IF HE STAYED ON 2 WHEELS HE WON THE RACE. BAILEY, OMARA, GLOVER, LECHIEN, HANNAH, NO MATTER WHAT MOTOCROSSER YOU CAN NAME FROM HERE OR ACROSS THE POND COULD TOUCH THE MCGOO SHOW. WILD AS HELL. BUT FASTEST ON THE PLANET. EVER
No, that would be RC. (It is self evident, wake up) But Magoo was the best in the world at these races in 1982, (A USA team also considered the B-team). I love to see a guy with heart pull it off. :) That was BEAUTIFUL MAN.
31:06 David Baileys Works CR500. Kick starter on the left side. Nobody cried for electric start. We just wanted the kick start lever on the right side.
Los EE.UU han tenido muy buenos ciclistas pero ese año Maggo estuvo espectacular .para mi el mejor ciclista como dominaba las Hondas y antes las MAICOS 👍👏👌
I was there with my brother and Danny gave me his jersey. The competition was a joke back then. And the track was all natural - no tilling and dirt added.
How could the competition for Magoo be a joke in 82, when we won the 81 MX Des nations with a "B-Team"? This was also our B-team, but Magoo brought the best A-Game the world had for those races. We just became the best in the world back then,---and that is no joke. :)
It was history in the making. Never been done before and will never be done again! These announcer's we're to stupid to know what they were watching! HISTORY!!! Magoo you were amazing!!!
And while Wohlen is in Schweiz/Suisse , this event Trophy Des Nations 1982 is not at Wohlen, it is in Gaildorf, Germany ....about 300km to the North.... maybe might want to clear up the error?
Wohlen is in Schweiz/Suisse...also known as Switzerland... The nearest point of the country of Sweden...aka Sverige is 1250km away...or to where I lived just North of the capital Stockholm was 1900 km away.... Close guess but just missed...Both started with S so pretty good.
Now I see what the error was..In 1982 Trophy Des Nations for 250cc bikes was in Gaildorf, Germany, whole Moto-cross des nations was indeed in Wohlen.....maybe after 30-35 minutes the 500 boys will be seen?
Damn, I just wrote a bunch of disagreement. Then I looked up and saw I missed the number 500. :) I might add Stanton in there, and Lechien did a "MXofN Magoo" on a 500 bike too, (88 I think), after a night of lite partying with the female local talent. :) The first pro race I saw was Red Bud 1985. The talent was thin in the n500 class that year, but Glover, (leading around lap 3) landed front end high on a big uphill double, could not make the next left hand corner, cartwheeled through the fence between motor homes and out of my view. Eric Eaton goes by. I see fans holding down the barbed wire fence Broc just crashed through as close to the ground as they could, (maybe a foot off the ground), and Broc riding, over iot and back on the track to win the moto.
@@urgonnaluvit It was the end of Wards career. They were 2 different era's pretty much. It is too bad Bayle retired the same year. I wish he would have stayed, and become an American citizen. I always liked the man, and I loved his talent. Bayle retired as soon as he hit his prime, (or did we really see his prime?). Ward's prime was between 85-89. Did you know Bayle did not train, (He just rode, which I think is the best training.). I think he got so smooth and fast, because if he got tired, he figured he was doing something wrong with his riding technique, and fixed it. If you ever felt like you were part of the bike, and can push it as hard as you want, you would note that you are not using much energy.

R.I.P. DANNY MAGOO CHANDLER. You are truly missed by all of us that loved to watch you ride.
Magoo 4/4 never been done before took EVERYBODY to the cleaners best rider ever

My favorite rider of all time was David Bailey. So fast and smooth.
I was 16 that summer I’d do it all again, miss Magoo untouchable when he was on.

Magoo pulled the belt off on those boys
I was stationed at K-Bay at this time and watched this on TV Maloof was my man in those days. No groomed tracks in them dasys.

Magoo was magic 🪄
Natural terrain motocross is motocross. Unadilla back in the late 70s, early 80s, unreal.

Back end of those ktms looking real busy!
All of them. The tracks had bumps in them back then. More like an "off road" race. :)
On 2:45 you can see Neil Hudson, #29, on a pre production 83 bike

Don't get no better than that I would just add B. Glover to the USA team and it's a done deal...podium time boys!
What’s truly amazing is how boring these two commentators make this.
Even the commentator tells you this is WEST GERMANY 🤣
Whatley, Thorpe and Hudson riding brilliantly but what the hell was wrong with Noyce? He wasn’t even trying.
It is 'in Switzerland Wohlen not in Sweden . I live 10km from the racetrak
Brits had a hard time taking the americans in the lead 😂
Glover, Bailey, Johnson, Ward; best 500 riders ever !
So why couldnt they beat chandler , bayle etc???😂
@@urgonnaluvit they did beat Chandler the vast majority of the time. JMB came along after them, check your dates bub !
@@jhmonthetube6339 jmb didnt come after ward , beat him regularly...check your dates bub 😂

The sound effects to this race are the worst I've ever heard! It makes it unbearable to even watch. What were they thinking?!
....neither event was in Sweden for 82
Well they were not in the Arctic either.
You didn't learn a damn thing from my comment either huh. :)
