    "Comrades, this is your captain. It is an honor to speak to you today, and I am honored to be sailing with you on the maiden voyage of our motherland's most recent achievement. And once more, we play our dangerous game, a game of chess against our old adversary - The American Navy.
    For forty years, your fathers before you and your older brothers played this game and played it well. But today the game is different. We have the advantage. It reminds me of the heady days of Sputnik and Yuri Gagarin when the world trembled at the sound of our rockets. Now they will tremble again - at the sound of our silence. The order is: engage the silent drive.
    Comrades, our own fleet doesn't know our full potential. They will do everything possible to test us, but they will only test their own embarrassment. We will leave our fleet behind. We will pass through the American patrols, past their sonar nets, and lay off their largest city, and listen to their rock-n-roll while we conduct missile drills.
    Then, and when we are finished, the only sound they will hear is our laughter, while we sail to Havana, where the sun is warm, and so is the... comradeship.
    A great day, comrades. We sail into history."
    - Captain Marko Ramius

There is one dedicated compartment where you can smoke on the large nuclear subs, but only by written schedule, say two-three times per day! This is why most Russian submariners do not smoke at all!

      Sorry, but taking a sovereign nation's territory is despicable (unless you declare war first, which Russia never did (no: They cloaked that land-grab as "we are only protecting Russians"...sorry, but said Russians lived on Ukrainian soil for more than a decade, so they aren't Russian anymore IMHO and if they are afraid of their fellow Unkrainians? GO HOME TO RUSSIA if Russia is that great, damned fucks!) and even then it's despicable if you go after countries that can't match you in military power!), especially since nobody can really retaliate against Russia...IMHO the sanctions are the least we can do to help Ukraine! We should include them into NATO ASAP and station troops there to make it clear to Moskow that we won't tollerate further land-grabs!

    All modern diesel electric can be considered to be a '' black hole'' as they are so quiet on electric propulsion with slow turning motors and the 5 and 7 bladed screws. If they have AIP, even more so. Swedish bubs can stay under for 2 weeks, the new Japanese subs up to 4 weeks at 5+ knots. It's is also the quietening of other systems as well so they are hard to detect while snorkelling.

    Russia from the Soviet era onward always emphasized the importance of submarines. An aircraft carrier group is one huge target and can probably be overwhelmed if hit with a lot of missiles at once.

    • @reconx86
      @reconx86 4 года назад +2

      I can imagine a submarine taking out a carrier. It just all comes down to military planning. US has a lot of experience in this area, but if their adversaries react and plan just the right way, the US will be like breakfast to them. Many people under-estimate their technologies, I really think the only reason US will win a battle against Russia is because they lack the combat experience. But they have the technologies to counter almost anything in the US arsenal even the stealth aircraft.

We were able to track and follow them several for weeks at a time without being noticed, even just a few hundred feet away from them. We all had to stay really quiet the whole time. Despite that, I don't think they would have heard us anyway.

    Why is this a surprise, the old diesel subs were a lot harder to track then their nuclear power brethren, the toss up is you do not have the range/endurance with diesel vs nuclear and also it seems our western media keep discounting Russia as a rusting military, but let’s not forget they are one of the most advanced air forces in the word and massive, if world leaders do not stop this pissing contest of out spending each the probability of some disastrous missteps could be irreversible. The other point is it seems the world is almost more dangerous then it was prior to 1990/1991 USSR collapse.

    Crimea was a part of Russia from the time of Catherine the Great till 1992, when many people of Crimea first came to know of an old secret memo document signed alone by Nikita a Soviet General Secretary. The reason why Queen Catherine (Katrina in Russian language and German) made Crimea a part of Russia is that an extremely large percent of Crimeans in about 1783 wanted Crimea to be part of Russian kingdom, which her multi - ethnic generals of Imperial Russia strongly advocated. The locals of Crimea had been writing to Moscow and were screaming and shouting at Moscow since 1954, expressing a desire to be part of Russia.

    How do we know that the submarine was undetected?
    Throughout the Cold War, Soviets thought their subs were secure, but their noisy subs were frequently tracked & communications lines tapped.
    China also claims that their Type-041 Yuan class submarines got past Indian P-8 Poseidons, which have some of USAs best submarine tracking hardware.

      In 2014 a coup occurred in Kiev, which installed a NATO- friendly gov. in Ukraine. Russian (Marines?) From the Naval base in Crimea cut off the roads to the rest of Ukraine and quickly arranged a referendum. The citizens voted to join Russia, as ethnic Russians are the majority in Crimea. Yelsin signed a treaty in 94 that stipulated Crimea's remaining part of Ukraine, and Russians have hated him for it ever since. The Russians were never going to give up their main naval base in the Black sea. NATO needs to get over it.

      You do know that any referendum on the sovereignty is illegal and thus null and void under international law, thus the Crimea referendum is illegitimate since the territory was under occupation while the referendum took place, plus the fact that there were Kalashnikov wielding goons at the polling stations means that it can hardly be called free and transparent.
      And no, NATO should not ever get over it, NATO should add increasingly sterner sanctions against Russia until Russia hands it back up to and including banning any travel to and from Russia and banning any economic activity at all with Russian entities or entities who does business with Russia, similar to the earlier Iran sanctions.
      If Russia never hands it over Russia will have to make do with having zero interactions with the rest of the world.

    • @Elldallan
      @Elldallan 7 лет назад +2

      @Steve Arthur The inviolable nature of sovereign territory is enshrined amongst other things in the UN charter but both the Hague Convention and the Geneva conventions weigh in on the matter as well. Russia was not obligated to protect the civilians because there was no significant threat to the civilians. And it's very rich of a brainwashed and fascist Russian Troll to dare speak of brainwashing. But for the record, no I'm not an American. An invasion of a country is only permissible by a UN country after the security council have permitted it, or in self defence but since Ukraine hadn't attacked Russia that doesn't apply here.

However, I would be curious to know how well it could evade detection by the TB-29 towed sonar array on the US Navy's Seawolf and Virginia class attack subs traveling at slow speeds.

    So, YOU are the Chief of NATO, advising the US & Great Britain etc. After seeing this submarine dive off Libya - what would you do?
    If you’ve thought as I did while watching this you may have had a flash of inspiration also.
    “Pretend that you can’t see the quiet Russian submarine. All knowledge of it must disappear. No one says a word, only that “we couldn’t see it.”
    Russia and those who buy the submarine all think they can’t be seen.
    Ha ha. The NATO Group CAN see every single sub in the future,but must be very self controlled & careful not to let on in the slightest way that they know. Until they need to act to prevent a major attack.(Similar to - Hitlers codes/Coventry uk defended so the Germans wouldn’t get wind of Defence Team in GB “seeing” plans)
    Think “Evil Invisible Man” - he’s marked on his cheek and the back of his neck with ink that only the observers who created this ink can see.
    Everyone ignores him as he walks about his enemies “Embassy”/whatever. All look right through him.
    Of course those who are using him to do their deeds have their own way of “seeing him,” - ink that they’ve been sold so as to observe as the control.
    In the same way, the Russians will sell highly sensitive equipment with the submarine to those who buy it.

    Well I'll admit Russia has some impressive subs. But the United States Navy has a few more. And they're all nuclear powered, meaning they're virtually unlimited in range. Also, considering the number of warships, purchasing power, and advancements of the USN as a whole, I'd bet on them over the Russian Navy any day. Besides, the USN is probably well on their way to developing a way to track this new sub, if not, they already have.
    I'd bet on the USN because of the number and types of ships they have compared to the Russian Navy.
    Here's how the two navies compare;
    USN 11 nuclear Carriers, Russia 0, 1 conventionally fueled (breaks down a lot)
    USN 9 amphibious assault ships (small carriers), Russia 0
    USN 22 cruisers, Russia 3, 1 battlecruiser
    USN 66 nuclear subs, Russia 62 with 37 nuclear, 25 conventionally fueled
    USN 65 destroyers, Russia 13
    USN 9 littoral combat ships, Russia 0
    USN 0 corvettes, Russia 78 (corvettes are really just boats with a few guns on them)
    Look it up and compare yourself if you have doubts. But as you can see, Russia can almost match the USN in subs, but falls very behind everything else.

It's dubbed 'blackhole' because it's so silent that it stands out in the otherwise full of background noise sea and hence can be tracked simply by following the patch of absolute silence.
