I have looked for the soundtrack for years. People bag on the movie, but I’ve always thought it was fun and underrated. The soundtrack is so good. Such a great atmosphere, and really enhances the movie. I wish it could be found on Spotify or iTunes. Thank you so much for posting!
B r i l l i a n t l y Composed Film Score! Brings all those characters, story to life!🎼💙🎬🎥Love the soundscape Thomas used! Great Sound Engineering .. Awesome Alto Sax Sound by Brad Dechter!
I loved the movie...love the cast...but above all the MUSIC just caught me!!! So good to listen to it again!! Thomas Newman is a GENIUS!! Also the LESS THAN ZERO THEMES ARE FABULOUS!! 👌👍
You may forget (and the film theme of spies and red colors however taken to slapstick a la Dr Strangelove too) that we were all living still under the Cold War started a few decades earlier.... and the menace of Nuclear War edges never really trimmed, regardless tough fought ballistic accords to reduce some, was a very sobering and somber shadow to live under and everyone was coming sore thru it. Even if you were a School kid, the awareness in the back of your mind and everyone's that we could all go off like matches in the Nuke wind in a matter of few seconds or minutes alerted made your living had a heightened sense of living for the moment because Tomorrow, the Future was seen not anymore like some happy Western new frontier but as a very dystopian wasteland, if at all any Future was left. No wonder sci-fi films like Mad Max or Blade Runner and the superlative Terminator, etc were the biggest hits of a gritty Era long overdue and falling by Corruption within Russia imploding, although the West is as much savage in corruptions too, more money and stuff in it too. That made everyone to live more into an awareness of the Now and not granted Tomorrows, Musicians as sensitive craftsmen too were highly touched by it and thus the outpour and intensity to deliver before just echoes erased all
Finally! I been waitin', for like donkeys years for this one to come around. Put in the search many times. Another two soundtracks I was delighted to see come to fore is "The man who fell to earth" also a Collin town classic "Full Circle". Thank you Slow Down, you just gotta love those crazy rhythms Newman comes up with. I wonder if he and Danny Elfman have influenced one another.
Cheers for sharing! 😄 I get that this movie's a little lightweight but nonetheless, I saw this movie several times when I was a kid back in the eighties and well... let's just say it. - Lori Singer was absolutely gorgeous in this movie, in fact she probably did much to drive home any and all affirmation that I am hetrosexual! Introduced to this movie when I was about nine years old, she rapidly ascended to serve as my first onscreen crush! 😂 There's a reasonable nostalgia component in this movie for me, so yeah, I'll confess I own it on DVD. Thomas Newman's soundtrack definitely left its impression though. About 2016 I sifted through pages of internet to see if there had in fact been a soundtrack released. I learned that the soundtrack was originally bundled on an album alongside Newman's soundtrack for "Gung Ho" (never heard of it!). It's noteworthy for having included different cuts or edits of a few of the tracks on the La La Land Records release. It's also noteworthy for not including "The Chase" which was arguably the track carrying my initial interest in this soundtrack; obviously the La La Land Records release has scratched that itch now. Also if anybody's interested, somebody has RUclipsd the end credits to the movie, the second half of which has the synth version of the "Love Theme": ruclips.net/video/bVAAD2aC0v8/видео.html
Sensational been looking for this for so Long. Soundtracks of mid 80’s films are so impressive. The use of the early midi is perfect. Today movies have lost a lot percussion in there soundtracks with to Much vocal needs more midi of the 80’s Top upload
When I was 9 I saw this movie somewhere over the Atlantic on a Swissair flight from Boston to Zurich. On the way back, the movie was American Flyers. This was in December 1985 and January 1986.
One of the truly great summer sleepers of the 80s, or of any other period for that matter. I remember when this Movie came out. I was in my early 20s, living in, of all places, Washington, DC, so a lot of the scenes in this movie are very familiar to me....Georgetown, the Potomac, M Street, Capitol Hill, The Mall. In fact, in the bicycle chase scene, near the end of the movie, Tom Hank's characer is biking down Wisconson Ave and crosses over M Street. There was a bar right at that corner, "Nathans", where I spent practically every Friday night in my late 20s and 30s. This movie brings up such greate memories of living in DC in the 80s and 90s....and always the FBI's & CIA's intelligence activities were lurking just below the surface. Practically every strange or odd event was traced back, somehow, correctly or not, to one of those organizations. Great times, great times. Of one thing, the airport scene at the beginning of the movie in which Tom is "selected" is NOT National or Dulles Airports....its LAX!
finally its out, but not complete as far as I know. The end credits has an electronic piece based on the "love theme" that the film ends on, and it is not featured in this list and that is what I wanted to hear the most. Typical, the one song I wanted to hear not on the album.
No "Aw, come on!!" Only way you'll get that is from the DVD disk, itself. I thought a couple bars were quite striking, it's worth listening to both, in succession. I actually enjoy both versions. The only thing I would have preferred is that they kept the end titles the same and added the alternate version of love theme as a separate bonus track. That would have been perfect. Still, after all these years to have a licenced limited number of cd copies and access to this is pretty remarkable. I wonder if Hanks would consider producing a remake, fixing some of the weaker story elements and dialogue, in addition to maybe playing the role of Brown. Thomas Newman to take another pass at the score. Not likely to happen.
I remember seeing this movie as a teenager (on VHS). The movie was.. OK, but the music really stood out. Definitely the best part of the movie, IMHO 🙂. That and the cocaine car drop 😁
I was listening to this music, and started thinking of Laslo, when he sent the new co-ordinance for corrected trajectory adjustment. For the Laser phased coonjugate tracking system. From Abottt to Costello.
Small bits of this music remind me of Jungle 2 Jungle with Tim Allen. And funny enough the composer in this movie was the Russian villain in Jungle 2 Jungle lol
At eleven minutes and 23 seconds into the film itself, you get a devastating electronic intro as Brown enters the airport to choose his contact. That tune is sadly missing from this release.
I love Thomas Newman's 80's movie soundtracks, and this is one of the best! Now, if only the score for Real Genius would get released...

Me too!
I have seen this movie in the 90's and I was highly fascinated by the main title theme song. Finally the wait is over and I found it.
I reeeeaaaalllllly like this soundtrack, and Thomas Newman's scores in general. For me some of these tracks are filled with atmosphere

I just woke from a dream with this music

He also did real genius
The chase is my favourite piece of movie soundtrack track of all time.
LOVE Thomas Newman! Brilliant!!
Holy crap!!!!! After all these years I finally find the main song from the beginning of this movie. Whoever put this out , you doing the lords work !
Hard to belive that Kevin Hart was only six when he provided vocals for this original score. Great movie, too!
Best movie soundtrack ever during the 80's and awesome movie to watch even in 2020!
what was it about the 80s that the music is so special and magical..was their something in our drinking water at the time..can anyone tell me why?
There was NOTHING in our drinking water then. Too fluoride and chemicals and pharmaceuticals now.

I too have waited a long time for this ......thank you!
The first movie soundtrack that sparked my interest in this kind of music. Very nostalgic. Thanks for posting it here!
I totally agree! What a catchy and darn near hypnotic score in that opening title. I too have been waiting for this. Cheers!
FINALLY.
A very good remake with a great cast. The score to the film was like another member of the cast.
It made the movie shine.
I came only for 4:20 ah my childhood
Thank you immensely for sharing this soundtrack. This movie has been one of my favorites since the mid 1980"s.

Crazy that there are still copies left to buy of this, I just bought one. Thanks for spreading the word, the soundtrack is fucking fantastic

The Chase at 25:15 is worth the purchase alone.

I bought this. It's great. Missing the love theme though.

Yes, and it had a tad bit of a Vangelis feel to it..

Me, too!
There are two songs in the movie that are not on the cd soundtrack. The one you are referring to is one of them.
Thanks for posting! I always loved this soundtrack. I had always thought it was by Tangerine Dream. But now I know!
I remember seeing this movie as a teenager (on VHS). The movie was.. OK, but the music really stood out. Definitely the best part of the movie, IMHO 🙂. That and the cocaine car drop 😁
Thanks for uploading!
Intro very memorable for some reason
Now we just need the Real Genius soundtrack. XD
That is out there, far easier.

Great o.s.t👍🖐
Not the best movie but certainly one of the best soundtracks.
OMG Thank You! :)
Is Thomas Newman related to Randy Newman? Thank you for sharing this.
What else did Thomas do besides this soundtrack? Would like to hear more of his music.
Yes, they are cousins
Hey a great jazz piece

AMAZING ! ...where did you get this soundtrack?
The soundtrack is similar to "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" that it is not found ANYWHERE!
Is there any way Real Genius will be released? I'm not holding my breath. This is similar though. Love it!
Same man.. hoping for a release one day

Yes that is very disappointing. It also misses the full end credits.
ruclips.net/video/AK9zKafP-TA/видео.html it’s similar to this if I remember correctly.
It's essentially a rip off of Exit by Tangerine Dream. Perhaps Newman was embarrassed by that and requested it not be included?
Unfortunately these tracks are a bit embellished from what was on the film's soundtrack.
