- In this video I talk about some of the apps I use on my 2018 iPad Pro. Most of these apps you will be familiar with but there are a few apps I use specifically as a PhD student. Hopefully these apps will be useful for you as well on your academic journey!

thanks for this...Im a doc student too, and having widfgets and everything on the screen serves as a distraction...and having too many of the productivity apps serves as a distraction too. Were kinda in a different space than those doing computer, web or design work.

Hi, i have also made a custom folder on my one drive for Zotero files but it saves pdfs with random codes instead of pdfs names and when I want to access them via pdf expert on my iPad its very difficult to find them, how did u do for Zotero saving ur pdfs with og name?

Personally, I am not using Google and Microsoft tools as those 2 companies do not respect privacy. In your case, I definitely not save my resume into OneDrive.

do your highlight lines go straight and can you use a keyboard to highlight or does it have to be finger or stylus crooked highlights?
I started my PhD last November, and I think I'm losing my mind, reading and doing so much on my laptop screen, my back hurts, my butt hurts. I'm getting an iPad just for the sake of reading papers and doing annotations.
haha it takes a while to get use to the amount of readings in a phd program. What are you studying and what school do you go to?

Hi, I am also a PhD student in Canada. I am trying to add oneDrive for PDF expert. I will log in to my university account for adding onedrive in PDF expert, but it says you need approval from your admin! Have you had the same problem when you start using it?
Hello! Thanks for this nice video! I wonder if you know how to extract the typebox (aka 'text' or 'typewriter') annotations on PDFexpert into Zotero notes? As far as I know, Zotero is limited to extract highlights, annoataions, lines etc., but not typebox. I have been searching it for a while, but can not find a way (a plugin or so) to do this.

Unfortunately zotero doesn’t allow you to hand write notes. But if you don’t need that then it’s a totally fine app to use to annotate.

Hi, how do you sync Zotero, pdf reader and one drive together? I have premium storage for Zotero but I do not like Zotero's pdf reader.

Can we use Zotero without an account and directly keep Zetero datafiles in onedrive. In PC I used like that but can't figure out in IPad
Without Zotero APP in iPad, we can use zotefile with Zotero in PC and Syn through OneDrive, open PDF Expert to read any PDF files.
With Zotero APP in iPad:
I think without an account you can't syn all the items between your iPad (here I mean Zotero APP instead of PDF Expert) and PC.
If you have an account and pay the storage of Zotero, you can both syn all the items and PDFs.
My question would be that, if you have an account but just would like to use OneDrive instead of storage of Zotero online, how could we connect PDFs between Zotero APP in iPad and PC ?

Hi, I only have ipad pro at the moment and I found out I could not use Mendeley on ipad so I was thinking if there are other limitations to my device that i would still need to get a laptop eventually. What do you think? I only need this to do my thesis for my masters. Thank you.
If you need to do any statistical analysis using statistical software I don’t think your iPad would be helpful. You probably need a computer for that.

You can just drag and drop the app from the main ipad screen to the dock.
May I ask why you’re using the PDF app to read and annotate and not directly on Zotero? Is there something Zotero is unable to do? Thank you!

Hi, Jonathan: Do you use Goodnotes or Notability for note taking? One can also use them as a PDF reading by importing all the papers into Goodnotes, for example. Is PDFExpert much better?
Currently I dont use either Goodnotes or Notability because it requires you to import everything into their file management system and honestly I was not a fan of that. I preferred PDFExpert cause it just accessed the files sitting in my windows folder directly.
👋 hi! is your stuff saved on iCloud?? I recently lost a 6 page paper on Microsoft like awful. I’m trying to avoid saving everything on a flash drive as well. What do you recommend?
yup I save everyone through one drive. I have nothing stored on my physical computer or a flash drive. One drive is perfect cause your work will be safe regardless of what happens to your hardware. highly recommend :)

It might be a bit on the small side. I would recommend testing it out at your local Apple store and seeing whether you find the experience comfortable.

I have 256g and honestly it is way too much. Should’ve went with an option that had less internal storage.
Is 64 g is enough for phd scholar?
I’m currently a PhD student as well and I find my iPad to be very distracting. It’s so time consuming to annotate an article by hand rather than just skimming it and typing notes on the side.
